The gun is functioning, legal (no license required as of yet), made mostly out of plastic, made with an industrial 3D printer (so not everyone could just make it), and since there's a metal piece in it, metal detectors would sense it. Still, this exists. |

First off, I already dislike the guy behind this. I try to be open-minded about political ideologies, but you show me anyone claiming to be an anarchist (from the article) and I will then show you a fool.
Moving on. While the metal piece is nonessential, there is one other detail to consider: The ammunition is still metal. Unless you have some means of procuring ammunition on-site (which would be part of a much greater security risk either way), or the ammo you bring in is setting off the alarms. |

Whenever people talk about stuff like that, it makes me think of the guy with the glass knives in Snowcrash. | |||

That one may be down, but now there's news of a cheaper, sturdier 3D-printed gun that a guy named "Joe" has rigged up.

This 3D printing stuff is getting ridiculous.
http://www.buzzfeed.com/donnad/27-science-fictions-that-became-science-facts-in-2 #9 Can you even call it a printer at this point? (Last edited by X on 05-21-13 10:01 PM) |

They're 3D-printing skin and ears. It's only a matter of time that more vital organs can be made so you don't have to contend with finding a donor.
More of a threat than 3D-printed guns, when it comes to having an untraceable firearm that anyone can access and own without paperwork, background checks, serial numbers, and so on, there are legal gun-building parties for kits. No paperwork, names, processing, background checks or serial numbers necessary: Source |

Plus, the 3D gun fires one bullet of a very small caliber, and has a high chance of melting when fired if you're lucky, exploding if you aren't. |
