Which do you think is better, a Floppy disk or a USB wand? I recently bought a USB wand (sorry if that isn't the correct name for it, but it's what i call it) because I was getting sick of my floppy disks crashing on me My friend advised me to buy the portable USB wand were you can just plug it into the back or front of the computer and store files on it, it doesn't brake so easily either and is much safer then a floppy, plus it has so much more storage space then a floppy. Mine has 500mb
So what do you's think? do they have USB wands in america? |

I like floppy drives for school, cause not all the compys in my school have a USB drive, plus their in the back and you cant move the towers in the comp lab so you can plug it in
But i do prefer flash drives over flopppy. You can store soo much more. I like my portable usb drive, its called my 30 gig nomad . (Last edited by Kaijin on 06-01-05 04:48 PM) |

Stores much more data and transfers data from stick to computer in less time it would for a floppy.
USB's all the way. |

USB sticks are the future without a doubt. I don't even have a floppy drive on my computer anymore and I doubt I ever will again. USB is just an all around kick ass thing.

Yeah, Floppy Disk drives are like what now, 3$?
Well, that's just a guess, but I know they're pretty cheap. And I never use them anymore nor does my school, we just use CDR's', etc. I haven't used a USB stick before, but with the way technology is now, I'm sure it can hold a LOT more than a Floppy Disk. |

USB rules, you can put more thing on it and it goes faster. Floppy is too old and all persons I know don't use it anymore.

Floppies had their uses a long time ago. Some computers now still have them mostly as a boot disc device if your computer doesn't want/or can't boot from a CD. They've become practically obsolete. With USB drives, flash drives, and pen/thumb drives, you're able to hold much more data in a smaller footprint. They're easier to transport, and most computers today recognize them without a problem. As the size standard increases, we'll pretty much stop using floppies all together.
The newer Macs don't even have floppy drives built into them anymore. Some of the computers on my campus actually have the Super Drives which are Zip drives that can also handle the older floppies. Realize, thought, that despite our having these technological storage advantages, there are still companies and people out there that depend on tape backup systems for their data. That technology has waned in the consumer world, but has held strong in the business world. Which reminds me...I need a new data watch. The last one shorted out. But, it still tells time. |

I'm going to have to go with the USB wand. It's just more conviniant. I still don't have one, but it's on my to buy list.

The USB stick all the way. Yeah floppy drives were useful, but they could break easy too if you were not careful. My laptop doesn't even have a floppy drive, so yeah... that kinda means that I need to transfer one of my books from floppy drive to my memory stick before I forget, heh heh.
But yeah, with the USB stick you can store so much more and they are much more portable... I mean you can put them on your keychain for crying out loud. |

USB sticks just make more sense. Floppies are sort of extinct. I like my USb thingy because I can wear it around my neck or put it in my pocket. A floppy is kind of awkward to carry in a pocket.

hell yeah USB all the way!! When i get my dads, im going to remove that piece of crap and copy all my back up discs to a USB device. its so much easier to use and smaller. i think with the extra room ill make with that thing gone, i could stack another hard drive or another graphics card if possible. USB is the greatest thing since zip drives, and soon, USB's will have enough storage to totally make discs obsolete in the next 2-3-4 years.

Yet, disks require no power to hold the information they do, unlike USB drives which require some kind of power to keep the information they hold on flashed RAM. The smaller actual drives might contain the mini magnetic drives (similar to that in the iPod) which would save information even in the event of power loss. But, they are subjective to magnetics and such.
I still like USB drives, I have a 128MB watch drive just because I don't want the other drives. But, I do believe this was a bump of a dead topic... (Last edited by Zabuza on 04-16-05 10:46 PM) |

I was using a floppy drive for years untill one day my dad bought me a USB thumb drive. Ever since I got my hands on one, I have used it instead of a floppy. So I guess USB is better than floppy in my opinion.

Definitely the flash drive...I have one with AIM on it for when I go places and use computers that don't have it, among other various items. One of the most useful things I have at this point...

This year, I chose to keep my tax information for 2004 on a diskette. I actually had one laying around for that use. So, in the folder where I keep the paper hardcopies of my electronic taxes is now a floppy of the 2004 taxes because I haven't had time to print them.
I don't store things like that on the USB drive because my watch drive is also an MP3 player. I keep all my stories on my watch, as well as the MP3s of the day, and some voice files (since I can record through the watch's built-in microphone). |

usb more storage and the some newer computers don't even have floppy drives. Also if you buy a box of floppies it's about what $10 for a box 5 at about 3.5MB a disk you can get a 32MB for$2 more. |
