Sometimes I think that people have a hard time letting go of the past. It is obveious that Nintendo is slowly beginning to fade away into nothingness just like sega. l have noticed a trend in the video game world. Nintendo has for the past few years been releaseing there new systems just before the other companies release their's. And because of this Nintendo has gotten trashed by the competeing companies. For instance, the DS came out just before the PSP. As a result of that more people are buying the PSP rather than the DS. The only people that really buy Nintendo equipment anymore are the parents who are in most cases clueless, and the diehard hardcore Nintendo fans who will stick with it no matter how much better the other systems are.
You may or may not agree with my opinion. If I have offended you I am sorry. |

Originally posted by Darth_Drty_JooWaitasecond. PS2 came out quite a bit before Gamecube. Over a year, in fact. PS2: 10/26/00 GC: 11/18/01 Uh... yeeeeah. There went THAT idea. Your DS/PSP comparison is, in fact, the only one that follows this thinking. PSX was out two years (or so) before N64. Do try to do a little research before posting a blanket statement like that one, okay? This huge and obvious error on your part has killed any credibility your post might have had. That's just too big a fuckup. |

Well I can say they've kind of pulled a Sega, when it comes to handhelds.
Let's look at the history: - Gameboy - Gameboy Pocket - Gameboy Color **All of the above, same system basically. - GBA - GBA SP - GBA Micro **All of the above, same system basically. Then, announceing the DS as more of a "innovative" system rather than the true successor to the GB, just seems weird. Other than that, I honestly don't think Nintendo's followed the path of Sega when it comes to consoles. But yeah, Nintendo usually puts out their system last, or not the first. |

The only problem I see with Sony is that nearly all there games are either shooting, action or driving. Yes they do have about 15 rpg games too which I like but the rest kinda get boring after a while.
I mean GTA:VC was almost GTA3 just with slightly updated graphics, bigger area to move around in and different missions. All the original GTA games where the same top-down view with same kinds of missions just with different and more cars to steal/nick/hijack/whatever you want to call it. Same with their FPS games, they all feature the same weapons just with different looks. The only FPS game I really truely got into was Timesplitters series, and that is only because I couldn't find the Gamecube versions of it. Nintendo won't face the end of their day for a LONG time yet. The only trouble is that there aren't AS MANY of these shooters, driving and action games for their consoles, but they focus on a wider age group and more different genres of games rather than the late teens to early adult age with only 3 or 4 genres (When they tried to get games with other genres, they were all blown out of the water by Sony's other games, so they were considered crap by most people) like Sony. If I was four now I'd hate my mum if she got me a PS2 because all she'd let me get to play would be things like rayman (which I find rubbish). Plus I don't like the idea of Sonic Team working with Nintendo, as I reckon it will end up them leaving with loads of money, going back to Sega saying "look we got a load of money, we give you this, and we make a new console to get Nintendo off the market, we get loads more money, we get pay rises and we become the best console -D" Also, Nintendo take care in there products, and Sony rushes theirs to keep up. That's the reason for the shoddy hardware Sony produces (console wise that is, the TVs and VCRs and DVD players they do are fine to me) and that's the reason I still have a NES that's still working perfectly, but my PS1 broke 2 years after I got it, just AFTER the garauntee expires So there will be a LONG while to wait before Nintendo follows the same path as Sega |

I agree with your post for the most part RY.
What I don't really understand yet, is why Nintendo announced (according to articles I've read in magazines), that they do not want to be competitive with the Xbox 360, and PS3. Instead, Nintendo says they want to be their "own thing", something different from the usual and something different for all gamers. I still haven't seen Nintendo elaberate over that, but saying that could be a mistake that they've made. It just seems rather ironic, since they say that about themselves, yet they spent about 30 minutes at their E3 press conference basically "making fun" of MS and Sony and there products. And I honestly have to say in my opinion, that the Gamecube did not have very many "killer" games, games that you'd buy the system for just to play that game. I think there library may even be worse than what it was with the N64 (quality wise). (Last edited by The Emperor on 05-21-05 01:09 PM) |

Well I wouldn't have said N64 had a small variety of games, as I have about 50 including RPGs, FPSs, strategies, puzzles (I love playing Tetrisphere), the platformer, adventure and action games (Mario 64 and Zelda OoT).
There was a lot of choice for the N64, but i do agree that the GameCube doesn't really have games that would make you want to get it unless you particularly like the games for it (Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker were the reasons for me getting one mainly) But really it's the same with Sony, as I can't think of a game that would make you particularly buy a PS2, except maybe FFX. That's why XBox is a very popular console, with the (in my opinion) second best FPSs out there, Halo and Halo 2 (Timesplitters 1,2 and 3 are my favourite) The reason I have never liked Sega that much is because of the Sonic games. So far I have not seen one of the games that has Sonic as the main character (Shadow the Hedgehog looks briliant) were way to easy. Most of the levels were basically just keeping hold of the right button, with springs and high elevated areas completing the level for you. Nintendo's Mario games have always had some form of hard work having to be done at some point in each level (besides level 4-1 in SMB1, the level i can complete in 19 seconds ). Especially when the UK Nintendo Official Magazine had a top 100 games, with only one sonic game there being number 51, Mario 64 at number 4, forgotten number 3, All the pokemon games at split second, Zelda OoT at number 1, the best game of all time Although with me I don't really care about the games on the console... the reason I now have a GameCube, PS2 and XBox... I'll probably have the three new consoles by the end of 2006-early 2007 |

Originally posted by RYjet911 I personally disagree. In my opinion, the Sonic games were great, and extremely fun. True they were short and easy, but I just really liked them. Not as much as Mario games, but Sonic does rank up to be my old favorite runner-up to Mario back in the day. But I agree with you on the last part, I own an Xbox, GC, and PS2 myself (and a DC) because of there exclusives on each system, and the systems do have sort of a general group of games per console. (Xbox's being more FPS based, etc) So yeah, eventually I too plan on owning the Revolution, 350, and PS3. |

Fine ill use an example from another smaller games mag, GamesMaster or something like that but in an older issue they did roughly the same thing and two sonic games were around the 30-35 mark, while the same three Nintendo games I've mentioned were in 4-10 mark. although three two and one were Halo 2, this racing game and another PS2 only game

Alright, then. Now that you've use a different magazine, I'm gonna adjust my comment a but.
How many people are working on these lists? 5, 10, 15 max? You really think that such a small group of people will play enough games to make a good list? Hah, I personally doubt that each individual person had played and remembered 100 games... *clearly doesn't trust videogame magazines* |

Erm... the games were voted on by game players across the UK, not by the 6 people who work on both mags

Ah, my mistake. I've seen other 'top 100' lists that were composed by the people working on the magazines.
Still, this leaves out countless lesser-known awesome games that very few have played. The whole idea of a top 100 list (replace 100 with whatever number you want) is flawed due to the lesser-known games, the inherent variations in peoples' tastes, and a couple other factors. |

What i dont get is, why bother paying for a classic expensive game, when you can just download the Roms and Emulators....I mean, im not paying 20 dollars for a game when i can just pay 1000's of games on a computer for free.....

i noticed something about Nintendo. The next gen consoles dont stack up against their handheld poweress. In my opinion, they need to stop their crap systems, and begin to increase the power of their handhelds. They have dominated that market for so long, they should just stick to it if they are going to release systems that are crap (why cant they bring back consoles like the N64 now with a giant ass capabilities, like the N512 or something LOL). anyway, if they dont do something soon, Sony and Microsoft are going to blow Nintendo out of the water. If Microsoft releases a handheld, then Nintendo is going to die. Their new consoles blow, so they need to make great handhelds now.

Honestly, if the Gamecube had half the third-party support the PS2 had, it would be right up there with the PS2. I can honestly say the Gamecube's graphics exceed that of the PS2, so I don't see how you could say that it is crap.

whats up with this? Micro is a small SP??? what crap is that? they have the power to make 3d graphics on a GB DS, so why even stay with the same graphic capability as a SP??? i think that is a let down, they should have the 3d DS power in it, thats just me. I think ill just stick with a DS and say screw it to the Micro. now if the micro CAN play 3d games, then maybe ill get that, but its not looking to be likely

Personally, I think wanting 3D on those tiny-ass screens is about as absurd as watching movies on those tiny-ass screens.
Then again, maybe I just like my 2D platformers too much. =/ |
