A friend of mine is into Wiccan, and he tried an invisibility spell. It worked in a sense, but not the literal invisibility, he told me other people seemed to ignore, especially people he didn't want to talk to.

Hmm... I'm more of an adventurer person. I do my altar work once a week. Saturdays because I'm alone at my house. I do some spell work. But on Samhain I happen to be off in my woods ghost hunting. You know just running around and stuff. Ofcourse I go out with candles. I just have to go my space. =P I'm more of a person to go into an adventure. I see my path as an adventure. My grands are church preachers. Love em to death so I come to church all the time. I guess I see the wiccan religion as my main religion. I just go to church to keep em satisfied.

Would it be wrong to follow wicca as a practice, I still have conflicting beliefs with the whole 'gods' thing. I just generally don't believe in a god, or any at all. So, I don't really know what to do.

If you're having conflicting beliefs, don't practice it, because it will not work. None of it will work. You have to believe that the Lord and Lady is present in the heavens and in all energies. Once you have accomplished that, you should be ready to practice.

Depending on what you believe, there doesn't have to be a specific entity to worship. I worship the Mother Earth because I know that all energy comes from Her spiritually, physically, and mentally.

Yeah, there are many branches of Wicca with many structures. The most well known are Wiccans that either worship the goddess Diana alone (Dianic Wiccans) or generally ones that worship the Lord and Lady (call them what you will). There are monotheistic Wiccans, Duotheists, Polytheists, technical-monotheists (worship of the Great Spirit), and all of the above.
I classify myself as a Poly-mono duotheist (it's the easiest way to say it). My own beliefs are that there is the Great Spirit, which is the energy of the universe that is in all things... you can say it's Mother Earth but on a grander and more gender-neutral scale. That is the monotheist part. The Great Spirit manifests itself in the opposing polarites of the Goddess and God (the duotheist aspect). They take on different aspects in relation to the needs of the people, who call these aspects by different names (Athena for wisdom, Eros for love, etc). That's the Polytheist part. If you have trouble accepting the concept of dieties, then perhaps you can choose the Great Spirit aspect. Otherwise you can treat it as a philosophy if you want to. |

Whoa...whoa...that's not true. Yes, you can have conflicting beliefs. I did. I didn't believe in several Gods, only one. Wicca is not neccissarily based upon the BELIEF of Gods, Clockworks, Wicca is based upon the belief of believing in yourself.
Yes, in the religion there is The Lord and The Lady, but remember that the number one belief in Wicca is: If you believe in yourself, then you can accomplish all your magickal needs. ^^ Sorry, I'll be here and there to leave comments everyone...I just figured that I should help Xeios because I know where he's comming from. Clockworks I understand that you are a first timer, so this is a lesson you need the most...Wicca is following the path that you believe is true to you, not just what the rules and regulations of the a religion call for. In fact, that's why most people begin Wicca over being Christian. I stopped being a Wiccan just a few weeks ago because of the fact that I was saved (I'm not telling people to go out and get saved) but being a Wiccan taught me that there are several paths in Christianity I can follow, and that what other's believe may not neccissarily be what I believe. However, that does not mean that I am not Christian or any less of Christian than they are. The same thing is called for here. Just because Xeios doesn't believe in many Gods, or even a God does not mean that he can not do magick. |

After reading Arin Hiscock's Solitart Wiccan for Life, I noted that she specifically stated that one of the requirements to be a full Wiccan is the belief in a Lord and Lady. So you're basically saying that that section of the book is baloney? I read her stuff, I read other authors. I read up on the internet. From the information I've gatehered over the course of about 7 months, I presumed that a belief in a God/Goddess form in one way or another, is mandatory for 100% belief. I also already stated that belief in yourself is nessecary earlier in the thread.

It's not necessarily true... Keep in mind that not all authors will have the same exact opinions, as is with all Wiccans.

Um...I know I'm a bit late in this thread, and might not be able to offer much help as far as the Wiccan religion goes in general (I myself am looking into it whenever I can, and don't know that much yet)
But here goes (and believe it or not, as off topic as it seems, I do have a point and I'm not just rambling for once)....so a little theory I came up with a bit ago...no one knoes anything for certain actually. Like as far as religion goes in general, ya know? So like what if there really is one superior power, or maybe even more than one, we don't know...but it's really unlike anything any of us here on earth believe it. Maybe there's a lesson to be learned? Maybe that we need to respect everyone for their beliefs, whether it's something we believe ourselves or not, and to learn and grow from one another? I myself am a bit unclear as to what beliefs I want to follow. I don't know which feels right to me...therefore I'm trying to learn a bit about as many other religions as I can. For mutiple reasons...more respect for other religions, it'd help me find the one that's right...and I honestly feel that even if you respect other religions, knowing a bit about others can make you more solid in your own.... K...my point being...because as I skim through this thread, even though it's all under the same general idea of Wicca...there are so many different ways of Wicca just put out here. My advice for you Xeios, is to learn abuot as many different types of Wicca here as you can. In my eyes it's all true....if that makes sense...whether you believe in certain gods and goddesses or not...it's all just as real as the other. It's what's right for YOU and how YOU as a person react to things and treat other people and the environment in which you live. Sorry for going on like that, but I just wanted to support my point here is all. Opinions should be supported I think. But yeah, I just don't want you to get confused or anything Xei, with these different variations of things. Just respect them all, look into them and find what is for you. Then, go with that, be faithful to that and just respect others. |

Funny. I've never heard of a "Lord and Lady" and I used to read a lot of Wiccan books when my mum was into it. Actually, I got the impression that Wiccan was a very sexist religion. All the Gods were actually Goddesses, and every element and whatever was female as well.
:/ I wonder how many branches and views there are on religion. It's funny when you look at it. O.O |

There are some very feminist sects of Wicca (Dianic Wicca seems geared that way in my opinion). But yeah, a lot of main branches say "believe in the God and Goddess/Lord and Lady", but there are other branches too. Kerr Cuhulain wrote a book on being a Wiccan Warrior, and it clashes with almost all the tradional branches (this is the path that DarkGuardian follows, and he doesn't seem to go much into the gods).
A lot of the ideas of Wiccan were drawn from Buddhism I've noticed, and thusly I see no reason why one cannot choose to not have Patron deities. Yes, I myself do have Patrons, but that is my choice. I used to be Atheist for awhile, so I understand the trouble accepting it... and it took me a bit to really believe it, but it happened for me at least. I can't say that it would happen to you Xeios, but that I am sure you will find the right path/branch for you. |
