Final Fantasy 7 - Retold
By: Kaijin Surohm

Prelude
She stood humbly by the oak counter, rag in hand, dirty glass in the other. She couldn't help but worry for the others, while she remained still. The room was darker then usual... Normally it was dark, since there was an entire city stationed above the slums, but this was darker then normal...
The dim overhead laps gazed on the empty tables, illuminating them enough for anyone to have a drink, and to have a seat, without second guessing. The soft glare from the lights lit up the clean cubs behind the girl, the mirrored cubbord seemed as if it held the very stars from the sky from the darkness of the room.
Slowly, she leaned form her arching posture, and set the glass mug on the counter, dropping the rag next to it. She would have gladly of gone with the rest if it wern't for her instructions...
So forcful were they, as if it were life and death...
She pulled her black straps up, straps that held her black skirt up, just enough to stay up on her thin, and well built figure, and wrapped around her shoulders, baring a skimpy white top, cut from the midrift, showing her stomach, and finely muscled shape. The woman was well build, for she had to be... She ran a bar. Bar fights were a commen thing, and fighting had to be stopped. Only way to stop two drunks, is to take them both out in quick succession... Thus knowing Martial Arts was a boon.
She glanced to the dark, dusty corner, over to a table that was missing half it's top. She couldn't help but grin at that spot. Just last week, she accidently broke it. A drunk came onto her, and tried to grab at her, pulling her over the counter, but before he could lay a hand on her, a fist kissed his jaw, and his body cleared twenty feet, straight through the shabby table.
She knew she was the only reason that her bar was running. An attractive barmaid with beer, what better combination then drunken pervs?
Alas... Running, but with no money going. Every cent she had went to either repairs, ordering drinks, or went to the resistance group...
She slowly leaned upon the counter, resting in the elbow pads, and long black gloves that reached her bicepts, and sighed.
"Are you alright?" a soft voice was heard to the side. She smiled as her head turned, her darkbrown, almost black, waist-long hair softly glided down the front of her shoulder. "Yea, I'm alright." her soft brown eyes gazed upon the little girl, dressed in a clean pink dress. The girl had soft brown eyes of her own, with brown hair. The girl sat utop the counter, waving her legs forward and back, concern painted upon the small face of hers. "Don't worry, little one. I'm fine." She said once more, in reassurance.
A flicker caught her eye, as she turned. Annoyence painted her face as she threw her hands up. The sign of the 7th Heaven flickerd out for the third time this week.

Interesting. Few spelling and grammar errors, but other than that it's good. The line about the attractive barmaid with beer seems odd because of "what better combination than drunken pervs"... but replacing than with to should make it good.

So is there more to this?

(Lol, of course. I just need comments for the next post )

Chapter 1

Jesse mused to herself as she looked in the mirror of the bathroom. The stall was rundown, and dirty, but what more could one expect from a bar in the slums? She didn't mind anyway, since she was soon going to meet this mystery man she heard so much about. Some Ex-Soldier, or so the tales say.
She was hyped at the thought, an expert fighter that was going to help them take down another Mako plant.
She quickly finished the straps of her metal breastplate, and the oddball red bandana that hung off the side of her head, her personal style, and rushed from the bathroom, blowing past Wedge, an overweight fellow.
She flopped down onto her computer, the one that sat right next to the big screen TV, and plotting table.
"Wheres the fire, Jess?" Wedge let loose a belly laugh as he said it. Her rush had him spinning on his heels, trying to stay standing. "Forget something already?" "Forget? Forget what? The fact that I get my chance to show off my explosives to an expert fighter?" Her eyes sparkled as she spoke. Her childlike demeanor was amusing to most, and charming to some.
Wedge shrugged his shoulders in a heartful laugh, shaking his head slowly. "Just don't overdue it, like last time." His round face brightened immensly at lasttime's attempt. All Jesse could do was scowl at him as he wondered into the bathroom.
Just above, Bigss sat in the corner of the bar, listening to Tifa and Barret go back and forth. He sipped his mug of beer, and wisly chose not to interrupt the two in their arguement over the Soldier and her.
"Why not?!" The sharp reply came from the oen in white and black clothing. The barmaid Tifa was raving over Barret's choice of this mission. "Because I don' need any messups!" Biggs sat quietly as Barret went into a rant of swearwords. Only part of it was acctually audiable to understand. Barrets thick ganger accent was rather hard to understand... The arguement made him think though... Who would win in a straight fight? Sure Barret was nearly four times the size of Tifa-or anyone else for that matter-and his muscles would make a thick boulder jealous, but Tifa's martial arts was something that anyman feared, thought that never stopped the drunks from trying something....
Flash of metal broke him from his daydream of the two brawling, and he even flinched. Tifa slamming her fists down through the air made him shudder, her and her metal plated knuckles.
"Sheet... Whatever. I don' care what that Spikey Haird freak does. So'long as you don' follow. I mean it Tifa!" He flexed his inhuman bicept, as the gatling gun graphed to his arm spun in reloading.
"I wonder how that thing works..." Biggs whispered to himself. Never once had he seen Barret reload that thing, and it's almost always firing.... He figured it was best not to ask, ecspecially now.
Tifa finally gave up the fight, for she knew nothing was getting through that thick skull of Barret's. "Fine then. I'll watch Marlene in the meantime..." She said in defeat, finding somethign to try to keep her own ego up.
Biggs took one final sip of his mug before leaning over to rest his head on both arms. Now that there was some quiet going on, he could probably get some rest before the mission... Or atleast he thought he'd try, for not long later, he found himself flying through the air from one powerful shock under him, and landed face first infront of the pinball machine on the other side of the room, atleast a good 20 feet flight. He looked behind him after the land, to see a pissed off Barret standing with his foot in the air, the chair knocked over.
"And get your scrawny ass down there an' prepair with Jesse! Gawd damned lazy people, all of ya!" The torn vest, the angry glare, and the dark skin of barret set off the fires behind his eyes. Biggs almost thought he'd die from the sight itself. A second later he hit the hidden button, and the second of floor slowly elevated him downward.

***

The cold penetrating stare gazed upone the railroad tracks. His glowing blue eyes absent from any serious thought. Tifa had sent him a message via his phone, one he found pacurliar, since all it said was 'Catch the Train, and goodluck.' Still, he wasn't one to ignore orders from a childhood friend. A simple finger press and the phone flipped shut, then reached it's way to his back pocket, just under the massive blade that rest on his lower back, mainly being supported by his belt. The blade could easily weight roughtly 200 pounds, and two slots resided near the base, two green orbs resided there - materia. He brought a black gloved hand up and ran his fingers through the front of his yellow, spikey hair, and glanced down the tracks. He stood a good ten feet off the ground, on a raised platform. He intended to jump on the train... Suicide, but still it would get him on without any guards.
He quickly dropped to one knee, as his head slammed hard in pain. His sigh sent all the colors inverted for a moment, and flashed back to normal... Something odd, but he was back on his feet like nothing happened... He had the problem for a while, occasionally he would get hit with this type of headach, he figured it was the Mako that was infused into him... The effects were becomming more scare as the days passed by.
He knelt quickly, and tightened his laces of his military issued black hightop boots. His boots held the bottoms of his dark blue, nearly black, pants, followed by a wide belt that supported his blade holster, following that was a dark purple, nearly black, vest. His left shoulder had a spiked metal plate, partly for defensive perposes, partly for sheer boredom.
Rumbling of the ground brought his attention to focus.
His eyes darted up to the train that fast approched. He caught a glimpes of a huge black man jumping to the side, and quickly, his mind put the peices together... Barret was probably testing him, and wanted Tifa to stay out of the picture, incase she got in the way... Typical.
He stood up once more, and stepped back once, giving himself clearence. One large step brought him over the edge, and he launched himself forward to the train.

***

"So where is he?!" Jesse yelled over the breeze of the air. Barret glared back at her quickly "Do your damn job an' no more questions!" His voice easily heard over the wind. Barret slowly crawled backwards, giving room between Jesse, Biggs, and Wedge. They were usually the first to go in.
He steamed for a while, since afterall, the Soldier was nowhere to be seen. "Peh... Tifa's friend my ass." he said to himself, the wind covering up his words. His seething ate was building, untill he startled with fright. He quickly threw his gun arm behind him, aiming at whatever put a hand on his back, and then felt stupid...
Even if his aim was fast enough, the guy was on the wrong side of his body. Quickly, he looked the other was to be met by a yellow haired spiky merc. "'Bout damned time!" he grunted. His scolding was put to waste, for all he got was just a blank stare, with cold blue, glowing eyes.
Barret was close to ripping his friend a new one, but decided against it when he heard the brakes click on. His sight locked forward, seeing his Trio, Avalanche, going into work. Jesse, Biggs and Wedge all had cleared the train before it fully stopped, and had ran up the nearest door.

***

He watched Barret jump from the train, and waited a moment, letting the big man distance himself. Last thing he felt like dealing with was an ego. Gripping the side, he pulled himself over the edge, and cartwheeled off the train, landing on the pavement, while drawing his massive blade. As he landed, he knelt down, holding the giant blade downward, resting off his arms, the tip touching the ground, while the handle was angled up.
Just as he did so, two guards dressed in a blue came out, machine gunes ready, tightly pressed to their sholders. "Freeze!" They said in union. His response came in the form of a lunge foreward, and a circling blade that slided the first guard neatly in half. The move was almost too fast to see for the thick visored guards. The second guard pulled his gun around, tyring to follow the blure, but the blade of the Buster Sword came crashing in, ripping the machine gun down the center, and exploding the scrany man's shoulder. A cry of pain began to wail in his throat, but the bustersword swirled in an arch, and split the man's face in half.

***

Jesse, Biggs, and Wedge all watched at amazement at how fast the soldier dispatched the guards. The ease it took the young man to use such a large blade, with such scrawny looking arms. The couldn't believe that someone like that was on their side - and lucky that he was! They wouldnt' stand a chance against him. "Stop standin' around!" Barret screamed as he ran by, a line of swear words were quick to follow. His gun arm was out, and constently firing upon any poor soul who was unlucky enough to be in the way.
Biggs shook his head, and noticed Jesse was still in awe, and froze. Wedge was frozen as well, but it didnt' take long for Biggs to figure out why. The Soldier was commin their way. He tensed up as he watched the intimidating man walk forth, his glowing blue eyes adding to the appearence of death that he seemed to resinate.
He sucked in his breath, and stood forth. "Hey there! Whats your name?" He dared to ask. "Cloud." The soldier replied firmly. "Amazing... My name is-" "I don't care what your name is. When this is over, I'm gone." And with that, Biggs dropped his shoulders and slumped backwards, hurt by the words, but they were expected. Regardless, he picked himself up, and the three ran up past Cloud, to join up Barret, avoiding the solder whom weild the massive blade.

***

Cloud held his blade on his back as he walked firmly. He let the three run ahead. It gave him time to think ahead of the game. He didn't care much for ambushes... And his eyes glanced up over the walls at the amazing Mako Reactor, glowing a menacing green. He blinked at the sight, and a chill ran down his spine... Mako... With that, he stepped on through the massive gates that were opened by the trio.
Not long down the hall, in a more narrow spot, he quickly paced his stepped, and stopped right before the trio, Barret standing near them.
"Awright! Your spikey ass is commin with me!" Barret demanded. The trio stiffed up, knowing Barret wouldn't of stood much of a chance against one such as Cloud, but relaxed when nothing seemed to happen. "Were gan'a blow this damn place sky high!" And with that, a dark laugh errupted from Barret. The thrill of a fight was overwhelming for him.
Biggs pried open the panel, and shorted the card reader, sliding the metal frames clear. Jesse ran in, and did the same for the second door that twisted to the right... Cloud and Barret strolled through, and head into the elevator that was at the end of the hall.
"You ain't scared, now are ya?!" Barret attempted to tease, as he saw Cloud's unchanging face. An odd Ping sound let him know that Jesse hit the elevator button. Cloud turned to regard his huge friend, and blinked. "And why would I be?" Barret looked at him for a moment drawing a blank on his smartassed comment. He spit to the floor, and let loose a curse. "This'll be done soon! Jesse?" he turned back to the childish girl, grinning a mile a minute at Cloud, whom she admired. Quickly she pulled out a homemade satchel bag, and handed it to Barret.
"Lets just get this done with." Cloud said firmly, void of any real emotion. He slid his blade out of the holster as the elevator neared the bottom, prepairing for whatever may be next.

This is crazy! I like it! You take a classic like FF7 and put it in story format, and you get a good story.

Kaijin also adresses questions like: Yeah, how does Barret reload his arm?! Or, Who would win in a fight? I is suprised. Keep writing!

(WAY shorter then I planed on x-x)
Chapter 2

He slowly crept around the corner of the darkened building. The screems of horror and pain filled the air from the dark experiments that happened.
"Lucrecia..." His soft voice whispered to the darkness. His hand slipped into his buisness suit, and softly touched the handgun that holstered within. The feel of the handle gave him a sense of security as he slipped through the darkness.
There he stood, not twenty feet away, the man who cursed his life to a living nightmare... Hojo, in all his smugged glorey, stood at the a computer, furiously typing at whatever experiment held his intrest. Hate filled his mind... Slowly, his grip pulled the custom made handgun from his coat.
"Yo!" He startled, and dropped his gun back into his holster quickly, before turning to meet the other man. Reno stood before him, that stupid grin on his face, with the glasses on his forehead. "What are you up to, man?" He laughed as he asked.
"Nothing, Reno." The male said. He shurgged his shoulder and passed by the red haired youth, but Reno stopped him with a hand to the shoulder.
" You wern't planning anything... stupid, where ya?" Reno looked at the man intently. "No.... why? " he lied. The Turks looked out for one another, true, but when it came to the higher ups, there was no betrayl.
There was a long moment of silence between the two. As if Reno saw right through his new friend.
He shook his head and walked away from Reno quickly, his heart racing from the near assasination... then stopped. Right before him, a beautiful woman was before him. The young woman looked upon the man with bright eyes, full of pain. "Lucrecia...?" He blinked. He began to move twoard the woman, but the hesitation was quick, for a bright line appeared down the middle of her body, and split her perfectly in two, both halfs falling to the sides.
His eyes went wide as his hand leaped back into his coat, ripping the pistol from his holster, and taking aim. There was now a fetus floating before him, holding a massive five foot blade...
"Where the hell is Reno?!" He looked back into the dark passage to see his Turk friend, and quickly glanced back.
The Infant has grown into a tall man with silver hair, glowing green eyes, and a black, long coat.
"You did this to me...!" The infant grown man said. The blade turned quickly, and he vanished in the blinding speed he took running forward.
The vision of the Turk went red, as the silverish, platinum haired man split him in half...
And then he woke.

***

Cloud paced down the staircase behind everyone. Why he was behind Barret, was only his guess, when Barret was more then cababile of taking a blow to the back... the man only looked like a tank... Regardless...
"Sheet!" Cloud looked up from his near train of thought. Barret was swearing up a storm ovr something trivial once again. It almost brought a grin to Cloud's face.
Almost...
It was a path that only led down via a pipe. One Barret had difficulty with due to his one arm. And an oppertunity to rub it in. "My Barret, having trouble?" He glared back up to Cloud, and went into a spree of foul mothed words. "Shut your damn mouth ya spikey haired-" "Easy now, Barret." Cloud mused.
He passed by barret, and just jumped down the pipe, using both hands as a brace as he did, landing softly. Following, he turned the corner, and went down a ladder that was near his spot.
Coud paced from the ladder, his hand resting on the handle of his Buster Sword. Not far from the ladder, a loud CRASH turned him about. Barret had jumped a good twleve feet, and left two foot imprints into the metalic catwalk. "Damn ladders..."
Cloud shook his head as he walked downt he catwalk leading to the mako Reactor core. It was near time to leave, and head back to the 7th Heaven, and report back to Tifa. Knowing her, she was probably pretting over small things, fustrated that she wasn't allowed to participate...
"AWRIGHT!" Cloud shot a glance up to his huge friend. "Your setting the bomb, Cloud! Someone's gatta watch your spikey ass ta see if your wit it or not!" And with that, he lobbed the bomb to Cloud, whom caught the small package in one hand.
'Dont' do it!' Cloud fell to one knee, clinching his eyes closed. 'People will die!' There was a small voice echoing about. Cloud looked up, trying to locate the voice. "Yo Cloud, git up, you awright?"
Cloud stood back up, ignoring the voice, and attached the bomb. "Here it comes!"
Cloud looked up from the bomb he was prepairing to see a massive red machine drop from the ceiling, and slam against the ground. A long black tail and a black moniter head made it resembe a scorpion.
"Awright! I was starin to git bored!" Cloud onlys hook his head as he pulled his blade out, and gripped it with determination.

(This is only the first half. I'll be posting the second half later.)

Chapter 3

All hell broke loose as Cloud lept to the side. He completely ignored what Barret was doing in the process, since all of his senses tensed up in the feel of a battle. The hail of bullets could be heard slamming into the sentry's side, along with a string of swear words to suit. "Typical..." He dropped his blade to his left side, and ran forth, letting the edge drag accrossed the ground, sending up sparks. Within range, he quickly lept into the air, and brought the blade down overhead in a massive strike, only to find minimal damage.
Quickly, he jumped off the arachniod style leg, out of reach, as the tail came flying down in a sweep. Cloud twisting overhead, and flipped over the tail in a backwards jump.
Barret, on the otherhand, bumb rushed the thing, and bear huged one of the legs. His arm free, and positioned to it's side, and he let loose. A string of swearwords could be heard as he fired for all his might, causing a dent in the side, and only having it grow larger, hoping it woudl break open.
The leg kicked off forcfully, and lauhcned Barret to the side. The massive build of the man slammed into the ground with a massive thud. With the distraction, Cloud lept up, and took a swing at the tail, leaving a massive dent in the top portion of the gun mounted tail. The tail quickly spun about, and clipped Cloud in the back, sending him in Barret's direction. Instead of the slam Barret had, he planted his hands on the ground, and flipped around to his feet, sliding back to Barret, droping his sword a few feet infront of him.
"How high can you jump?" Clouds glowing eyes peirced tword his massive friend. "What hell type -" "Just anwser me."
Barret looked at Cloud for a moment, and shook his head "I can clear that damn thing." Cloud motioned his head upward, meaning for Barret to do so. Quickly, his massive friend jumped to his feet, bull charged forth, and jumped into the air, just intime for a beam to fly under him, narrowly dodging the tail's laser. As Barret jumped over it, he fired downward at the sentry. In the process, Cloud jumped to the side, avoiding the laser, and activated on of his two Materia orbs. His hands shot out, while airborn, and he formed a cloud of mist to appear below Barret. As soon as the bullets connected, they formed into shards of ice, that fell down, and riped into the metal armor.
As soon as the metal opened, Cloud jumped for his sword, into a roll, and jumped up once more. He lodged his blade within the backside of the shell, and activated his second Materia. He gripped the handle with both hands tightly, and summoned forth a bolt of electricitcy. The bolt swormed down his blade, and into the electrical circut of the sentry.
Among various sounds of cracks, and breakings, Cloud quickly launched off from the sentry, and let it short circut. The electrified Sentry wobbled backwards, tword the time bomb...
"Shi! Cloud, Move it!"
Both of them took a dead run out of the room. Just as soon as they made haste, they both turned around, and pushed the blast door closed, just in time to hear the sentry self destruct, and massive pressure to be felt on the door. "No time to rest, Barret. This place is going down." The building itself began to shake, and a warning light went off all the way through the massive mako hall.
