Finally! I got one of their albums (maybe not officially but ...).

Anyways, I've known about this band since I had an Edguy craze going on (last year), but I've never heard an entire album by them until today.

I got Majestic, their latest album and I have to say, this album is pure awesome Power Metal from the beginning to the end. On top of this Gamma Ray has Kai Hansen on vocals and guitars, and he does an absolutely incredible job on both.

It's hard to find "downloads" of this band, but I'm probably just going to end up buying their albums because I've heard almost TOO many good things about them, and after hearing this album I can see why.

And like always, I provide you my good people some sample songs:
My Temple - First song, and freaking awesome (love the drumming in this one).
Strange World - Track 3. From the beginning to the end this is a pretty unique song, and completely amazing.

I've heard some of their songs. Some the tracks I have in my bag o' music are Heavy Metal Universe, Heavan or Hell (good song), Dethrone Tyranny (another good one), Long Live Rock and Roll (a cover, I believe), and a few more that I cannot name off the top of my head. They're a good band, I'll definately have to check out more of their stuff.

o.O? Cant download it...and im on a T1 server now...

Sounds interesting, Ive hears some of their music from a couple of my friends in Alabama. Funny thing is was that it was like a gang depending on the type of music you listened to, Gamma Ray was one of the smallest unfortunately...

Edit: ok now it loads....

Woah... not really that bad, I really dont like the vocals though, but you were right, the drums are pretty much amazing...

I wouldent call them "Power Metal" they remind me alot of metallica though...with a twist of 80's style singing...

Well, they are Power Metal. Trust me.

But it's true that Thrash and Power Metal are pretty similar. The only difference with Power is that there's usually a lot more drumming, and more double bass drumming, and more use of keyboards and operish stuff added into the songs to make them a little more dramatic and so forth.

The thing that sucks about Power Metal is that nobody cares about them in America (80% of the bands are European, so it does't surprise me I guess). You can't find albums anywhere. Occasionally I'll see Edguy's Hellfire Club on sale at Best Buy, but that's it.

But yeah, Kai kind of surprised me in this album. He's not bad in anyway in my opinion in this album, but he does seem to be changing a bit. It doesn't surprise me though. Reading up a little bit about him, he was with another Power Metal / Heavy Metal band, called Helloween back in the early and late 80's, so yeah, he's got to be in his 40's at least.

So for a 40 year old singing like that, I'd say he's still pretty awesome.

Heh, I find lots of 'hard to find metal' here (they used to have alot of Edguy, a few Helloween albums, Children of Bodom stuff, Gamma Ray albums, Sonata Arctica albums, TONS of Stratovius albums, etc

I'll definitly have to buy one of their albums.

And yeah, Kai is old.

Shit man, these guys are awesome. I looked over at samgoody.com and they do sell their albums. Same for a bunch of other bands you've listed Xeo. So I guess I'll use all that left over x-mas + birthday money to buy a ton of albums. Just send me a PM with recommended albums to buy

Oh my Mother of God.

Yeah, I think Gamma Ray is probably "very very very" close to being my number one favorite band (I've never had a favorite, but that could very well change here soon).

I got 2 more of their albums, No World Order and Powerplant. Funny thing is, according to the reviews at Amazon, these are there "not so good albums". Which I can kind of agree with Powerplant, there aren't many songs besides the first one that are amazing, but it's cool because they sometimes sound a lot like Judas Priest.

No World Order is pretty sweet, the intro is freaking amazing. I'm just an absolute killer for screaming intro's. The intro's to a lot of the songs on this album sound like the beginning of a war in one of the LoTR's or something.

I'm probably going to buy Land of the Free (which from what I've read all over, is their best album), and Somewhere out in Space and maybe Skelatons in the Closet.

So, here's the first song to Power Plant. I might upload the intro song from No World Order also, because it's just insanely awesome.
Anywhere in the Galaxy - Screaming intro = "XeOface" (screams x3)

Just because the intro song is too good to No World Order:
Introduction - The song is literally called, Introduction. And an awesome one at that.

I'm going to have to say that this band has made history in my life.

For the first time ever, I can actually say I think they're the greatest band ever, and I like them more than any other band out there.

I've always liked tons of bands, but was never able to say "I like them more than everyone else". But with Gamma Ray, that's finally changed. I can finally say I have a number one favorite band.

Why do I say this? I've listened to 3 entire albums so far, No World Order, Power Plant, and Majestic, and there is not a single song on all of them that I'd skip over or say I "don't like this track". Every song is incredible.

You know, I'm not a metal fan at all, and I really, really like these guys. I tried to listen to metal like Metallica, and I only liked Ride the Lightning. Wow. These guys are really good.

Yeah, European metal has a little different flavor than American.
(more epic, and stuff).

I'm getting a little ticked though, I ordered my Land of the Free album last week, and I'm still waiting for it.

Well that sucks. Here I am waiting for my orders, and it turns out I put in my Visa card a little incorrectly.

It should work now. I just ordered:
Helloween Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1, and 2 and Gamma Ray's: Land of the Free.

Kai Hansen played a huge role in Helloween with those Helloween albums, did vocals, and having one song from the first Keeper album (Halloween) I can say I can't wait to hear more. (He left after Part 2, and from what I've read and heard, Helloween just went downhill from there). And, from what I've read on metalstorm, gamma ray's forums, and so on, Land of the Free is by -far- Gamma Ray's best album.

Amazon thinks I'll get these on Feb. 1. Can't wait!

But hey, I'm hoping to go to ProgPower this year with a bunch of friends.

Don't know if I'll see Gamma Ray, but I'm hoping to, them or Edguy or something.

But yeah, when you're there, bow down to Kai Hansen for me!

I'm also going to see Dream Theater soon (already have my ticket).

This year is so gonna own (and the Gamma Ray tickets aren't really costing much, so it's good. And since I don't think much people know about them, I could probably meet the band )

Speaking of Dream Theater, my friends and I watched about 80% of their "Live at Budokan" DVD last night (it got late and my friend who owned it had to leave, so we didn't get to finish).

It was quite easily, one of the greatest things I have ever seen in my life. I recommend any metal fan of -any- kind, pick this DVD up, and be amazed at how talented Dream Theater is.

Literally 70% of it seemed entirely instrumental. The vocalist would just disappear for up to like, 10-15 minutes and the rest of the band (guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards) would go on and on and on.

In every single song that we saw, John Petrucci, guitarist, pulled out some of the best and most insane solo's I've ever seen (easily the most insane I've ever seen, since you could actually see him do it).

Then we saw a solo by the keyboardist, which nearly sounded like an entire orchestra. I'm sure the other band members have their solo parts in this DVD, but we probably just didn't see it.

Seriously, I mean I knew Dream Theater was very good, but after seeing the majority of that DVD last night, they're like God's Right Hand. It was so good my friends and I got up and jumped around a bit here and there, we just couldn't control ourselves. And you'd think Dream Theater would lose ideas throughout this 3 hour DVD, but think again, every single minute of what we saw was fresh, new, and incredible.

They're a lot heavier also at this show then from what you'd hear in their albums.

It was so amazing. I recommend everyone check this DVD out, or even just check out the band if you haven't. I'm probably going to pick up the "Live at Budokan CD" today.

And I've lost a lot of respect for the people at metalstorm.ee, I don't know how they could have rated the DVD a 8.6 out 10. A 10 isn't even good enough for what I saw.

(we're going to watch it again next weekend, and probably all of it)

I'm getting a little crazy with Amazon.

Right now, orders that I have in place are:
Helloween Keeper of the Seven Keys pt 1
Gamma Ray: Land of the Free
Gamma Ray: Somewhere out in Space
Gamma Ray: PowerPlant

I got Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 2 a few days ago actually. I'm very impressed with the band and everything, but not the product ...

It wasn't new though, but yeah. The first song I listened to skipped for a few seconds, but the 9th track and one I was looking incredibly forward too, "I Want Out", skips so horribly at the end the song jacks up.

So it's a little dissapointing, but the music itself is awesome.

Different from what I expected, compared to Gamma Ray and whatnot, but that doesn't surprise me since it is in fact from the late 80's. And it turned out I was completely wrong, Micheal Kiske does vocals in both Keeper albums, and not Kai Hansen. It looks like Kai just did most of the writing, lyrics, and does lead guitars.

It's awesome hearing Kai's music in these because you hear a lot of stuff that he has also used in numerous Gamma Ray albums. Same riffs, solo's, etc. I guess some people could argue Kai "over does it" (a few reviewers from what I've seen on some sites argue this is a reason why Gamma Ray isn't that great, not in my opinion at all though), but I actually think it's cool hearing similar sounds and solo's in Gamma Ray, then going back to hear original versions in Helloween.

Definitely a very high recommendation for metal fans. Think Iron Maiden, but with more solo's, and more interesting vocals (in fact I'd say Micheal Kiske is even clearer than Bruce Dickinson).
