I enjoy Audioslave...but they just aren't the same as Rage Against the Machine, even with Tom Morello and his amazing guitar techniques.

I think the problem with Metallica is that they strayed too far away from what made them popular in the first place. Granted, i'm not one of those people who go "OMG Old Metallica was sooo much better!!!!!" and "Metallica sold out!! THey've gone mainstream and now they suck!!!". However, as you could probably tell from St. Anger, they've sort of lost their touch. I'm hoping their new album brings back the "Master of Puppets" Metallica.

i've always found that Megadeth focused more on speed than on technicality. Of course, this was years ago. I guess i'll go check them out again, since you say Rust In Peace beats out any of Metallica's album.

This is true for some of their select albums. Their debut album, Killing is my Business and Business is Good is even far heavier and more agressive than Metallica's Kill em' All album. Rust in Peace, in my opinion is the best example of pure 100% Thrash. After that with Youthanasia and Countdown to Extinction you could see their speed dropped a little bit, but at least they kept somewhat of a thrashy sound. Their other newer albums before System has Failed, like Risk (and one other I can't think of) was a huge failed venture off into something else, much like Metallica's St. Anger.

System has Failed however, was in many ways and to many people Megadeth's "return" back to Thrash, and I can personally agree to it. The speed is back, the solo's, thrashy style, agressive sound, its all there. So their newest album basically went back to their old style, the style that made them big and Metallica big when they first appeared. I'd love to see Metallica try the same, but I just doupt that'll ever happen. I just hope Dave Mustaine keeps Megadeth like this from here on.

Metallica is music I can sleep to, Smoke to, and just jam too if im chilling with friends. Its not something normally I would listen to while im jamming out, but all and all, Metallica gets my vote on good music.

I have a friend who is a huge Metallica fan. Hell, even my mom is a gynormous metallica fan, but usually when I listen to them, they are just to slow for me at times, and I get boerd if im not tierd or something.

Im not saying they are bad or anything, My favorite song by then I believe is called "No Leaf Clover". Correct me if im wrong there, but that song made me cry when I first heard of it.

Oh yeah, while I was being my stoner self, I let my mom hear Blind Guardian, and she stole 2 of my albulms. How do I know this? because when I called her she told me she was "borrowing" them because she liked them alot...Normally she hates my kind of music ( Cept Pink Floyd and P. Oakenfold), but I guess I kindof got her hooked on them. She wasnt too attracted to Wintersun and Luca Turilli...but at least I got my mom hooked on Blind Guardian.

I bought my First gamma Ray CD today as well "Heading for Tomorrow". And My Lord, they are pretty awesome. I havent heard too much because lately, I have been expanding on what I call "Epic Metal".

They have that whole "Classic Metal" taste to them in my opinion, I dunno, maybe its that song "Lust for life" that made me think that....

Screw Power Metal, Folk Metal, and symphony metal....I just call it "Epic Metal"

S&m is there symphony album(I think it means Symphony and metallica), I think they played with some newyork syphonmy, they played a lot of their songs, with a symphony in the background.

It sounds dumb, but its a sweet CD.

Yeah. The S&M has some awesome Metallica hits with the full backing of an orchestra. It's up to the listener whether he/she likes the addition of the orchestra. I personally find it a very fine plus to some of my favorite Metallica songs. Sad But True with the orchestra is quite good, in my opinion. No Leaf Clover is quite possibly my favorite Metallica song though it strays very far away from heavy/thrash metal Metallica.

I actually enjoy an Orchestra in my music, Mainly thats why I was hooked on Cradle of Filth for the longest time. I enjoyed hearing the violins, Chellos, and other types of percussions going on in the background while you could just feel the anger rising in your neck...Now im just....I dont like Cradle not too much....

And then I heard Nightwish from an old girlfriend of mine, she introduced them to me one night when we were all just screwing around and listening to new music. Even back then and today, I still dispise Slipknot and all of their so called "New Metal glory"...

Soilwork had a Keyboardist that I enjoyed, it was different for me and that was the day I was hooked on Heavy Metal.

But the only Heavy Metal band I listen to thats just straight up screaming are bands like Demonhunter, Kalmah, and Black Dahlia Murder

Ok, Black Dahlia Murder is Thrash, but their lyrics are Folk metal....I have to be hooked on the Lyrics if they scream....

Demonhunter is a Christian Metal Band, theyre ok....but I still like them....I have a T-shirt that says "I am Demonhunter" on it....

Kalmah I have no idea why I like them, maybe its the symphony, but I know its the Lyrics....

I might be crazy, but I think Blind Guardian's debut album Battalions of Fear could be my favorite from them. Hansi doesn't use falsetto like he does a lot in their other albums, and its purely obvious they were hugely inspired by Helloween's earlier days and their Walls of Jericho album. Very much more in your face thrash-like, than compared to their other later more symphonic stuff (Imaginations from the Other Side, etc).

Its really incredible. More simpler, fast thrashy heavy metal, and they're damn good at it.

I also sometimes wish Helloween would have put out more albums like Walls of Jericho.

Sajin, it doesn't surprise me you like both Blind Guardian and then Savage Circus. I've been browsing a bit for reviews, and stuff like that and found out that Blind Guardian's drummer (since 1985) Thomen Stauch apparently left them a few years ago, not too pleased with their new "sound" (specifically their latest two albums, which I have heard aren't nearly as good). Thus, he formed Savage Circus.

Could you compare Savage Circus to Blind Guardian from the mid nineties? (Imaginations). That's what I'm getting from reviews.

Anyways, I'm starting to like BG more and more every time I listen to them. My friend had downloads of all the albums and sent them over, I'm probably going to buy most of them.

Edit: I don't think I blame the guy for leaving them. I just listened to bits of "The Night at the Opera" ... wow, talk about over the top and hey, where is the metal!? I don't know, some of the songs actually almost made me laugh, they're just ... way over the top, and it seemed really happy compared to their other stuff.

Personally, I dont like reviews, they tend to put waaaayyyyy too much into the 'Artistic' expressions in my opinion...I mean, Look at Darklyrics they are waaaayyyy into the perspective in art in music....plus they have random assholes that say "THRS BAND SUXS!!!!onetwo!!!

....I dont know, if you want to sample them, they play the songs on that Metal Radio station I gave you on the last page....Seriously, they play GREAT music, stuff you would enjoy Xeo...

But heres my comparision to Blind Guardian and Savage Circus....

Sajin listens to Savage Circus' song: Born again by the night

Savage Circus is a little bit "In your face" music, heavy drumming, Crazy Guitar solos, Awesome lyrics, the vocalist is just outstanding, and all of their CD's you cant just listen/ skip 3 songs at a time, you have to hear it from start to finish...

Sajin now listens to Mirror Mirror by Blind Guardian

Blind Guardian is somewhat the same, cept you know what a bard is right? Their new sound is somewhat folkish to me, its awesome, its beautiful, sure its a weeeeeee bit slower than savage circus, but there are songs by Blind Guardian that sends chillbumps down your spine....in a good way....

Plus Blind Guardian's old stuff really puts yourself in 80's metal, which I like a HELL of alot better than the shit put into our radios nowadays....

Just get Dreamland mannor from Savage circus, Lick it, sleep with it, have sex with it, and wear it.....

Ill ask my friend Road to Upload you some Xeo, if no one replies in this post Il put a link up for you to hear.....Mmmmk?

That'll be cool.

Also, I ordered 4 BG albums yesterday. I think I'm starting to like them a lot more than I used to. I ordered Battalions of Fear, Follow the Blind, Tales from the Twilight World, and Somewhere Far Beyond.

I was about to order Savage Circus's album, but it was pretty expensive. Only available for importing, the cheapest ones were around $17, and with shipping that would've probably easily hit $20, so I'll probably wait on that.

And yeah, it really struck me when seeing someone mention in some review I read about Battalions of Fear:

"The quality gives off that old 80's feel to it, where you can actually hear the bass".

Really, after someone pointing that out, I've noticed quite a bit. It's really easy to hear the bass in old Helloween, and Blind Guardian stuff. Pretty cool I guess.

As for reviews, I can say the same myself. I've agreed with some of them, but I can't say I've cared for a lot of reviews that get too deep into the lyrics and everything. I'm not someone who pays a lot of attention to the lyrics, so I don't really want to read about that. I've noticed that I tend to enjoy Amazon's reviews more than even Metal specific sites like MetalStorm.

Somewhere far beyond was actually tasteful....but you should get the "And then there was silence" albulm.....only 2 songs in it but oh man....Brung tears to my eyes

Well, I only like the lyrics when its a slow song or perhaps the lyrics go GREAT with the music...like Helloween, I have to go with you there...the music is outright great, just the lyrics are not something to me that I would care for....

As for that savage circus. I dont blame you for not buying it imported, I would say get an Itunes account like I do and just download the entire albulm from the site....30 songs to me cost like....20 bucks?

What Helloween albums have you heard?

I think its funny to compare lyrics from Walls of Jericho, and then Keeper of the Seven Keys.

I'll even pull out the booklets and post some snippets:
Walls of Jericho: (Victim of Fate)
"I had to kill people to save my own life
I don't wanna go to hell
I started at the bottom
I'm heading for the top
I'll never return I'll never go back
To that goddamn part of the town
Headhunters won't get me cause I'm not stupid
But this aint the life I dreamt of
Wanted from the law but they'll never catch me
I'd much rather die in this bloody war"

Now, Keeper of the Seven Keys. (Future World)
[Chorus]
"Cause we all live in Future World
A world that's full of love
Our future life will be glorious
Come with me -- Future World!
...
...
...
One day you'll live in happiness
With a heart that's full of joy
You'll say the world tommorow without fear
The feeling of togetherness will be at your side
You'll say you love your live and you'll know why"

Hopefully thats a good example.

Walls of Jericho is really in your face, while Keepers is like "Take my hand my friend, together we will find happiness!" and really uplifting.

Probably easily, I mean it might be bad for me to be like that ... I just honestly don't pay a lot of attention to lyrics.

I love both Elvenking and Ensiferum, but can't say I've really given enough attention to know what they're talking about half the time.

after I listened to walls of jericho a million times the lyrics made some sense

"We erased the master plan, take the future in our hands." etc....

must of been cause I just graduated and the future is in my hands XD. one of my fav cds though

kind of like metallicas "fade to black" it sounds good and is a masterpiece to me, but if you listen, its bout suicide.
