Got component cables for my Xbox (gonna soft mod it soon, sounds insanely easy)... and I picked up Otogi since I heard these games were pretty cool. So far it's not bad, really weird atmosphere and I'm digging it. Combat isn't as sexy as Onimusha, Shinobi PS2 or whatever, but still pretty cool.

I could use some mad cash right about now. Just found out my temp job ends around early July, so ... let's hope I find something soon.

Not sure how I feel about that... |

My Steam friend list got wiped randomly, I just logged in one day and bam everyone was gone. I saw there's a handful of big threads on Steam's forums about this issue hitting others too and sometimes, their friends list just magically comes back... still it's been a few weeks now and it's pretty frustrating.
Has this happened to anyone else, or anyone know anything about this crap? |

Damn.
Well I'll give it a little more time ... I guess. Not too hopeful though. Luckily some of the groups I was in are still there, so that'll be one easy way to add a handful of people back. |

Definitely play this on the PC if you guys can, looks and runs way better than the console versions... and my PC isn't even that great!
So far, it's really not THAT bad. Reviewers sure are tearing it up though. Probably not worth $60, but worth checking out for yourself. |

Sounds like the PS3 version actually beats out the 360 one pretty good too:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-duke-nukem-forever-face-off With 12 years of code and optimization, I'm not surprised how wildly different the versions run. But yeah, sounds like you guys should avoid the 360 version if at all possible. |

No offense Bit (and I've been arguing this to others and friends), but I don't think people should peg all the blame on Gearbox. All they really did was polish (is so, slightly failed too) the game, and probably simply made it actually release. They probably just wanted to get it out there before it never happened. Borderlands was incredible, every expansion pack and game Gearbox did on the PC was amazing, and I have full faith that their Aliens games is going to kick ass.
DNF is probably 90% 3DRealms dog. Just sayin'. I haven't played much of this. You could totally be right, but yeah. Gearbox just threw in some money and got it out there, I'd say. (Last edited by Erza on 06-15-11 06:18 PM) |

Originally posted by Lord Alexandor A nice comparison, I'd say especially after the alien queen the game starts to play and really feel a lot like Half-Life 2 and FEAR in design, which was totally fine with me. Yeah, not quite worth the full retail price, but it was not bad at all. I actually just finished it and seriously thought it was a pretty damn solid game. I think it started off really slow though, the casino/Lady Killer levels I kind of hated, but after that it was a blast. My only real complaint is the two weapons thing, but you were never really running out of ammo or anything so it wasn't too bad... it was also easy to stick with some weapons if you wanted, I used the Ripper throughout most of the whole game. The unlockables you get at the end are damn awesome. The game would have been perfect if it somehow had some of the early builds as playable unlockables. (Last edited by Erza on 06-18-11 06:27 PM) |

Yeah, my best guess is that the code for those early builds might sadly be lost, broken, or something like that. Who knows.
I thought the outside casino portions looked pretty damn cool. Anyways, I do think it'd be interesting if Gearbox makes another game themselves someday, I think it'd certainly be a step up from this coming solely from them and not mainly from 3DR, and I'm sure Gearbox's time schedule wouldn't be a 12 year project. lol, until then I am stoked for their Aliens game, I want Borderlands 2, and after that... maybe another Duke would be awesome. Haters gonna hate. I forgot to mention that this game made me realize how much I miss epic boss fights in FPS's. The only other recent comparisons I can think of are Doom 3 and Quake 4... and well, go figure. Hopefully id delivers some cool classic FPS bosses in Rage or something. Giant minotaur-like monsters with rocket launcher arms, hell yeah I miss that stuff. (Last edited by Erza on 06-19-11 03:24 AM) |

I've seen that Pen and Teller episode, since Yasu mentions the kid shooting a gun and crying, I remember that part along with some old guy that was bad mouthing shooting games or something when he was a big time hunter or something like that and owned tons of guns. Hilarious.
Anyways, I wouldn't worry too much about this right now. The videogame market is toppling the movie industry and others off and on thesedays and is a huge force, especially in the US. So I just can't see them winning this in any way or for anything to really change. Activision and EA's biggest blockbusters are almost always guaranteed to be M-rated games, I'm sure there's a huge force against this. A similar thing has been going on with anime lately with some new law that might go into effect eventually, but it's also something I don't think will be a huge deal in the end. But it's hilarious that both this, and this videogame case here... are fucking stupid. As you guys said, end bullying, bad parenting, real crimes and murders, and other things like that before worrying about entertainment for crying out loud. And the fairness (this also goes for the current anime situation) is completely lopsided, violent or suggestive games/anime might be banned or moved to other shelves, whereas violent or obscene novels and other things like that are still totally fine. Because that makes sense right? Tokyo Governor Ishihara is so anti anime or any kind of media depicting mature themes or whatnot, yet he is very infamous for writing some very controversial novels several years ago that were among the first in Japan or something to depict very graphic sex, rape, incest, violence, and everything. But that's okay right? He's all good, I mean he's only the guy that said the recent earthquakes in Japan were "Divine Punishment" and consistently bashes the new generations of Japan. The guy got elected for a 4th term at 80's year old or something, only because the majority of Japan are old people and sound dumb. No offense. Also I don't think some people seem to understand that crippling entertainment industries is only going to break the economy even more. Good job. Both our systems are completely fucked. Their should be an age limit to be in office for a max to be like, 50 years old or something. I'm so sick of these old farts pushing ideals that don't coincide with our society of today, a society barely any of them can even grasp or understand and did not grow up in, so they shouldn't have these kind of ridiculous rights telling us what we can and cannot do when it should be the younger adults or middle aged people leading us. How many times have we heard stories against videogames from old people or newscasters that don't even play games? GTFO. /rant |

Good and Chev's also absolutely right about the average gamers age, I think it's even mostly somewhere in between 30-40. |
