They're giving an award because of his pledges?

Gods get books written about them and entire countries worth of followers without having to do anything. At least Obama's a physical entity.

Off topic anti-religion Vulkar-annoying propangandens aside, the Nobel Peace Prize isn't exactly all that great anyway... Not since Kissinger and Yasser Arafat received 'em all them years ago.

I wouldn't think too much about it.

I've not sim battled in a long while purely because I've not yet found another website that does the rules like Xeogaming's. It was only really Acmlm's board that had the same rules.

All the other places had really awkward character development trees, experience, skill lists etc. or used the so called 'unorthodox' rules, instead of giving each player full control over his own character. I really can't stand unorthodox... Of all the battles I saw, they either last about ten posts with one person killing the other off within seconds of 'actual' in-sim time passing, or they last for bloody hours with characters regenerating, healing, cutting limbs off and reattaching them...

Gah! Two BioWare games in the space of four months now! How will my wallet cope?! XD

I'll certainly be trying to get ahold of this. Dunno what platform I wanna get it on yet though, although it comes with a development kit (I'm guessing PC only here). That's certainly tempting me to go PC.

I just obtained an XFX ATI Radeon 4870 512MB card for eighty quid. I would have got the gig one but that was an extra twenty quid I wouldn't have got for a while, so this should do. Just installing drivers for it now, hopefully see some epic results soon.

OH SHIT I love it. Even on my crappy motherboard with only 1.5 gigs of RAM it does STALKER perfectly on max everything. It only lags when new bits of level are being displayed, but once I've looked around a bit, it goes smooth. Guessing that's a lack of RAM, especially since I'm using Vista.

I've also heard that if nVidia don't stop catering to the hardcore gaming market, they may go out of business. A friend reckons they're in financial trouble at the moment because they have pretty much stopped doing low end cards. I mean, considering the latest GTX 200 series, the lowest end one of them to my knowledge (The GTX 250, although correct me if I'm wrong) has equivalent power to a 9800 GTX.

Pre-ordered on Steam now, although probably won't get it until Saturday. I need to take my computer back home to download it since I have a horrible download limit at uni. 1 gig a day!

GOD DAMN IT DOWNLOAD LIMITS ARE ANNOYING

Why, in a day and age where internet is pretty much part of daily life, do companies STILL place limits on a person's downloading? I mean, my university is it's own ISP! Considering it only provides internet (incredibly fast internet, 1.1 MB/s on a good day at the accomodation, and I've hit 6.5MB/s on campus) to about a thousand, maybe two thousand people, I can't see why they limit it.

I worked out it takes a mere 15 minutes to use up the entire limit if you download part of a large file when it's running at 1.1MB/s. Why such fast speeds if download is limited so badly? I know 1GB a day is hardly much of a limit, works out to roughly 30 a month which is better than most, but still... Such fast internet should not warrant a limit, at least not one that small. It's what's hindering the progress of digital distribution.

Oh also, Vulkar, I'm certain Valhalla will provide us with a graphics run down soon enough. Assuming he got it for PC so he can test on his awesome setup... And make it seem like the 360 graphics are simply terrible.

Posted on 01-04-10 06:19 AM, in H.A.V.E. Online - TF2 ripoff? Link
http://steparu.com/previews/mmo-fps-previews/375-have-online-gameplay

So there's another trailer (It came out a while back, around the time I made this thread in fact xD), this time showing off gameplay, and it does indeed look rather good. It's not first person, it's not class based.

However...

While it resembles less TF2... It does now resemble Battlefield Heroes a lot more, something which the poster of the video neglected to look into when describing the TF2 trolls. That game was clearly a TF2 competitor, so...

Really, the few differences here is that instead of class based, you design classes with weapons that I believe you collect through playing the game, but I'm not sure if that's the case though. You get four different character models you can customise to your liking, then you battle in a pretty basic third person shooter style game, which sounds fine, but unlike TF2 and BF:H, I can see this causing a lot of the same problems MW and MW2 had with their multiplayer, with high level people having a distinct advantage over lower levels with better weapons and abilities.

The HUD, while different in layout, is very similar to TF2, except this game allows for a Team Deathmatch mode which is shown off in the gameplay footage. But looking at the weapon lists, the frantic gameplay, the way the death thing in the top right shows player names in team colour with what weapon was used to kill with on a white rectangular background is pretty similar to TF2.

And I'm still personally reeling from the scene in the first trailer with a double jump then a bonk across the head...

But it certainly looks good. It's not looking promising for a release any time soon, since they were estimating Q3 of 2009 for release, and it's now 2010. The beta footage looked pretty polished though, so hopefully a release will be soon!

I'm sure my opinion of this will be considered very controversial, but this just sounds silly to me. The FF8 plotline itself was cluttered, generic, and rather stupid. The game wasn't exactly great either.

I'm almost certain the people of this website are doing what always happens with popular media, and that's finding meaning where none is intended. But whatever.

Sorry buddy I wonder who the favorite was

Actually, that's not really official. That was something the Mario Bros movie put in to make a joke regarding them trying to tell their names to one of the police guards.

Here's a strange fact: Lara Croft's breasts were accidentally increased in size by the 3D modeler, but they were left that way on request by the rest of the development team.

I'm fairly certain I was the only non-god modder of old times. Honestly, the amount of times my characters were left helpless to stupid attacks that would require me to bring up random shields to defend against the power of several nuclear bombs... Gah.

It's the problem with the way this whole battle system works. It allows a lot of freedom, without forcing weaknesses based on the character's strengths. Such as magical exhaustion, I may have been one of the few RPers here with characters who did get tired by constant use of abilities (Sanigen for example, his final attack, Kajaei Ultimaei, gave him around five posts of vastly heightened power, before leaving him essentially defenseless where he would have to recharge. Yet even then that hasn't helped since the opponents in those battles generally dodge and defend his highly increased attacks and powers...) and it certainly annoyed me when my characters would suffer from this without the opponent feeling any strain having just created a mass of energy equivalent to several nuclear bombs etc.

I understand external sources of magic being much more energy efficient for the fighter, but in that respect I would expect such a character being ONLY skilled in such abilities, and likely not have much skill in physical fighting. Yet most characters do. So they can utilise entire worlds worth of energy without losing their physical skills and then win by weakening the opponent until they can barely lift a sword. Where as someone with natural, internal controls of energy are likely to require less time devoted to practising such abilities, and therefore can train more in physical, weapon-based combat. Also, those with internal sources of energy are more likely to be naturally resistant to external forces due to them needing to control them without causing self harm.

EDIT: Also, magical exhaustion could still occur quite badly in someone using an external source, as the external energy is channeled through the mind of the user then projected via the body, in a very similar way to those who have natural, internal sources, who suffer both those, and the fact they would have such a limited source of their energy, and would have to every now and then allow their natural reserves to regenerate.

Posted on 08-12-10 11:26 AM, in Building New computer. This time for real! Link
My current gaming rig I was quite pleased with. Now remember British prices seem to be much higher than American equivalents, which really pisses me off.

In total, I think my computer cost around £720-ish, so upwards of $1200, but again, it's fairly cheap given that PC parts here cost more anyway.

Intel i5 750 2.66 GHz - Amazing processor for a cheap price, easily surpasses the best AMD one of the time, which was a Phenom 2 X4 965 I think, their 3.4GHz (Again, I think) quad core.

Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 - I love this motherboard, it makes overclocking so safe and easy. I certainly fucked it all up first time through, yet nothing went majorly wrong, it just gave me a warning during startup.

Titan Fenrir XMas edition CPU cooler - Incredible cooler, at least once I get it attached properly. I think I put an air bubble in the silver paste. Plus it's also attached to face the wrong way, so I had to change the case's airflow. xD

4GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM, can't remember the make - Never had any problems with this RAM yet, and it makes switching between programs damn fast.

XFX ATI Radeon 4870 512MB - It's a refurbished one that worked brilliantly for a while, but it's showing signs of aging, probably the parts that weren't replaced the first time it broke. xD

800W generic power supply - Not much to say about this, but I would like to get a decent, branded, modular power supply at some point.

Antec 902 Gaming Case - Wonderful case, good size, fucking heavy. It is a huge effort whenever I need to pull the computer out, both from its weight and the really thick rubber feet it's mounted on. Has a bottom mounted power supply, hard drive coolers and removable hard drive trays... Its main problem is it's rather short for a gaming case, so the more powerful graphics cards may not fit in it. Mine just touches the very edge of my hard drive's SATA connection. Thank god for 90 degree cornered connectors.

I've had little trouble playing games on it, getting most games on near-max to max settings. Mass Effect 2 looks beautiful at 2048x1152 and Far Cry 2 runs wonderfully without anti-aliasing, everything else maxed, DX10 on, and the LURK mod for STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl looks orgasmic.

I'm considering upgrading to a 5770 or the nVidia 460 thing for DX11 stuff, and a little increase in graphics power. Plus it was a refurb and has been a little bit iffy with its overclocking feature, fluctuating a fair bit on how much it will let me overclock without getting graphic artifacts and bullshit like that.

Plus, once I re-attach the cooler and remove the air bubble in the silver paste stuff, I should be able to get 3.8GHz easily out of that processor, thanks to CustomPC magazine.

Well this does seem fairly retarded... Even if I agree with the other article that there shouldn't be a mosque built by Ground Zero, much like I agree that no religious temples should be built there, only a replacement building with the same use as before.

I mean, hell, I don't like Islam as a faith, it's really disgusting with some of its interests, considering they are instructed to lie in order to advance the spread of Islam, are told to believe that only once their religion and law is the ONLY religion and law across the world will there will be world peace, and that freedom of speech and belief is an abomination. But fighting against religious hatrid with more religious hatrid isn't going to work, it's just urging that hatrid to escalate.

Good thing I hate all religion!

Seriously, this wasn't just an attack on Islam. Those were just some things I've been told about it. They may or may not be true, but I've read small portions of the Qur'an and, given its rather abrasive tone of writing (at least in the translation to English, since I can't read squiggle-speak of any kind) it does give the impression it's not a very open religion. Political and religious freedom, I'm fairly sure, are considered bad, simply because it means you're not believing in their law and God. But even then, I guess it's not just Islam that has this problem.

I have issues with all religions, with their methods of gaining followers, with their beliefs and such... Although my main annoyance is the smaller groups' insistence that science is unnecessary, specifically regarding evolution and such where they just say "God did it" and people believe it.

But meh, I'll stop. xD Just saying, I don't have to respect people's deeply held beliefs, and instead just trounce all over them. I do it to Vulkar all the time.

360 - Obviously Halo

PS3 - Resistance 2, MAG, Metal Gear Solid 4

PC - Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Unreal Tournament 3, Modern Warfare 2, some other recent release on Steam that's basically Modern Warfare 2 but just a multiplayer that looks pretty damn awesome with what seems to be free updates and maps instead of paying $20 or whatever it is for the MW2 map packs...
