Something to note: Your banner is .gif.

EDIT: Scratch that, something went wrong. Consider that to be just a draft. I'll finish your banner later today.

Heh. You'll notice that there's nothing to the left of the "While there was a Hurricane Blowing" face. That's the reason it's a gif. I was suddenly hit by this idea and decided to make it a custom sized banner.

Elyk X, i can at least assure you fair judgements from me. I can't guarantee that everyone will be satisfied with what I decide, but that can't be helped. I've always tried to stay on the neutral side of things and offer both parties on opposite sides my services. If a problem arises in your battle and I see that you obviously deserve/should win, then I will have no hesitations to give you the victory. The same goes to everyone else. The second rounds should be starting very soon.

As we all know, Leon's Ancient's Tournament will not be the last tournament we shall be seeing on this board. This thread can serve as a source of information and news for any new and upcoming tournaments that someone may wish to hold.

If there are no spots taken as of yet, I'm thinking of holding another tournament after Leon's, taking approximately one to two weeks after the final match.
Here's the info...

Name: Weapon Master Tournament
Day limits: 3
Rules: Standard Tournament Rules
Owner: Sparda

What's new:
As all of you know, I especially enjoy creating tournaments that feature unique and original battle events, etc such as the Legend's Tournament which featured randomly changing and altering arenas. This tournament will focus, not on the arena, but on the weapons that the two fighters are given at the beginning of the match. Any fighter can fight 'well' with a weapon he is familiar with. But what happens when he is given a weapon he rarely handles? This tournament delves deep into weapon mechanics and physics as different and unique weapons are issued to each fighter per round. They are permitted only that weapon throughout the entire match.

Weapons include:
Longsword, broadsword, Bows/Arrows, Double Daggers, Sais, Claws, Special Gauntlets, Scimitars, Maces, War Hammers, Katanas, Staves, Poles, etc.

I'm still deciding on whether the use of supernatural abilities should be permitted or not.

So anyway, that's my tournament idea? Anyone interested?
Also, if you have ideas for tournaments that you want to manage in the future, post them here!

The problem I have with 'passive' abilities is that you can never be sure what kind of passive abilities a person may have nowadays. Most people try not to limit themselves just to an 'elf's speed' and 'demon strength'. In fact, you'll find that most people have that and then some. That's why I felt that including powers may make it that much harder for me to control the tournament.

Maybe I could issue random 'passive' abilities as well as weapons?
Aside from a weapon, a fighter could be issued one random passive ability such as the following...
1) Enhanced reflexes~ lessens the reaction time of a fighter
2) Enhanced speed~ increases agility and evasiveness of a fighter
3) Enhanced strength~ Increases effect of weapon strikes
4) Enhanced stamina~ Able to withstand more blows than usual
etc.

I mean, that could probably work out too...though it may need some balancing out.

And about the ranged weapons, I was simply naming weapons off the top of my head. I can assure you that bows and arrows or any other type of projectiles will not be included.

I like the no-armor rule. It'll certainly increase the challenge level of the fights.

And finally, I was thinking about perhaps adding stats to each weapon?

Like let's take the War Hammer and Two Daggers. By stats, I would mean something like this....

Out of 10...

War Hammer~
Attack: 10
Reaction Time: 5
Speed: 3

Twin Daggers~
Attack: 2
Reaction Time: 8
Speed: 9

I was thinking perhaps this may also help to even out the matches. But then again, that may also be going too far.

Comments?

This is why I will not be participating in the tournament. With the aid of other judges, I will watch each battle very carefully. If someone should've taken a hit but didn't, then it will be pointed out. This tournament basically stresses the need for understanding how to block, counter, deflect, deadlock, evade, parry, etc.

But nevertheless, i'm still working on how the tournament should be run and how each battle should be held. After all, this kind of battle/tournament has never actually been done on XGF.

And shuyin, as i recall, it was after using almost all of our powers that we finally decided to fight like mortals. It was at that point in which we began taking some hits. And it did end. we called it a draw. LoL.

Since a group of people showed a considerable amount of interest in this, I've officially decided to hold the Weapon Master Tournament shortly after the completion of the Ancients Tournament currently being held and owned by Leon.

The premise of the Weapon Master Tournament is simple:
Make use of the weapon that is provided for you against your opponent in a 'no magic' arena. With weapons ranging from swords to axes to maxes to daggers, fighters are forced to delve deep into weapon mechanics and physics without the usual aid of supernatural powers. Therefore, it is necessary to also incorporate weapon weight and size into mind when striking at an opponent.

This tournament will measure not only your ability to manipulate and comprehend words but also to think critically in unique situations using different types of weapons. The implemention of the "No Armor" rule will also be made into effect to increase the challenge and fun factors of the fights.

However, one thing I'm still deciding on is the implemention of 'innate abilities'. I simply don't know how well that would work out. Currently, I think it may be best to rule out 'special' innate abilities altogether. 'Innate abilities' will be determined by what weapon you hold. For example, if you wield a War Hammer, being the most powerful of blunt weapons, it is quite obvious that the 'innate' ability acquired would be enhanced strength and attack power while an 'innate' ability that is taken away would be reaction time and speed. In other words, its pure common sense.

This is still in question. If you have a better idea, I would gladly listen to it.

As for rewards...
The winner of the Weapon Master Tournament will receive a sig banner (made by me) granting you your new title of "Weapon Master". The winner will also be awarded either a belt or a title (i'm still deciding on this).

Registrations can be placed here. Comments and questions can also be fowarded here.

EDIT:
Here's a draft of what the sig banner may look like.

To tell you the honest damn truth, I have no blessed idea why Ayla is even in every single battle. In all honesty, it's getting ridiculously annoying. Automatic DQ if you attempt to hit her? First of all, I doubt anyone gives a shit that she's even there. Second, I doubt either battler wants to have some so called 'announcer' in each battle screaming out their names.

Ayla is more of a distraction and an annoyance than a nice 'addition' to each battle. And the fact that if you were to pull of an 'ultima' like move and she gets hit in the process, you'd end up getting DQed. That's my two cent.

Anyways, no offense meant. It's late. I'm off to bed. *collapses*

All fighters are forced to fight as if they were nothing but humans. The ability to fly would give you an advantage in each fight. Therefore, though you may fight as an angel character, you may not use the wings as a sort of defense mechanism nor can you use them to fly or boost your speed. The tournament focuses on the usage of weapons that are randomly issued to you per round, nothing more.

Just as Azrael managed to step inside, the orbs that the mighty Griffin had created exploded like bombs, causing the entrance of the dark dark cave to be completely sealed up by large boulders. The blast of the explosion threw him forward onto the ground, the sheaths of his swords scraping against the hard surface.

He quickly got up and batted away the dust on his clothing before quickly scanning the tunnel which he soon found to be impossible due to the obvious lack of light. He stood quietly as he heard the sound of Xeios' blade cutting through the artificial flesh of the marionettes. It seemed that all that had been hidden in the tunnel were disposed of.

Azrael reached for his handgun and fired off a single silver round in an unusual angle. The silver bullet was launched out of the gun and hit the side of the tunnel, causing it to richochet and hit the other side, and thus repeating the process. Each time it ricocheted off the walls, it created a small spark of light. The bullet repeated this process for approximately 3 yards before it finally lost its momentum and fell to the ground.

Each time a spark was made, Azrael watched carefully, scanning everything he could with what little light he had to use. He saw the body of the decapitated marionettes...there were 5 of them. There didn't seem to be anything else left in the tunnel...but then again, this was impossible ot tell for the lage passageway was too long to be revealed by his single bullet.

He shrugged and reholstered his handgun as he drew his right longsword and proceeded forward without so much as glance or talk to Alby and Xeios.

I'm not splitting anything into categories and I won't be including all of the weapons you listed. Certain weapons are too similar to other weapons and it just wouldn't be fair if someone got 'this' weapon instead of 'that'. For example, the pole is easily weaker than the poleblade because the pole is simply a long stick used for beating the opponent where as the poleblade is just as manueverable as the pole but with a blade attached on one end to increase the effectiveness.

And I'm not including gauntlets. They count too much as armor as well. Period.

Posted on 09-10-05 03:19 AM, in Video Game Review Thread | Gain Lucre! Link
Here are a few of the old reviews. Please claim the reviews that are yours.

'Front Mission 3 (PS1)',
I'm not sure how many have heard of this game. Made by Squaresoft a few years back, it was the first (and to my knowledge, only) Front Mission game to be translated to English by Square. So, how good is it?

Gameplay: Movement on the map is similar to Vandal Hearts (and from what I hear, Final Fantasy Tactics), in that you have a limited range and can move anywhere in that range. Movement, however, costs AP, as does everything else your wanzer (pronounced vanzer, basically a mech) does, including attacking. Probably not groundbreaking in any way, but very simple. As your pilot destroys more enemy vehicles, he/she will gain more Ace Levels, which give more AP, and weapon EXP to make the attacks stronger with a specific weapon type. Outside of battles, everything is menu-based, which limits freedom, but allows for simplicity. The network, specifically the Web portion, I have mixed feelings about. Tedious when you have to remember passwords and have to type them in every time on certain sites, but other than that, not too bad, plus you can get some nice stuff through it (like the Hoshun Mk112) In addition, the wanzers are customizable; parts and weapons are interchangable, and the name and color can be chosen (with many color options).

Graphics: I'm unsure here... the sprites on the maps (Yes, sprites) are very well done, and the cinema scenes are great, but... the polygon wanzers and pilots, not to mention the environments, have their flaws. Nothing major, but definitely noticable.

Enjoyment: Somewhat iffy, here, as it depends on what you're looking for in the game. If you enjoy using strategy to win battles and having to plan ahead, you'll love the game, especially with the thinking needed to balance out your custom wanzers with their limited weight. If you're looking for an open-ended game, you're out of luck. The story is also very good in my opinion, but a lot of people disagree (as well as agree, for that matter).

Replayability: There are two paths through the game, with different battles on each, but I have only beat one, so I can't say much.

Value: I don't know how much it costs; my best friend gave me the game since his Playstation stopped working. So I can't tell you if it's worth it, but I'm certain it is; one disc game, PlayStation... can't cost too much, can it? ',

'Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War',
'This game is really awesome. There are so many things you can do, it's hard to list them all. Four races sounds small, but believe me, this game never gets boring. Almost every single unit not only attacks with a gun, but once that unit gets close enough to an enemy, they whip out a sharp object of some kind and begin trying to slit the opponent's throat.

And now, I'll give the good, and the bad.

GOOD-Quite realistic-Worth the Money-Large amount of units-Thousands of Possibilites-Realistic Unit Animations-Amazing Graphics-Innovations such as cover, squad-based combat, and morale-Interesting Story-Grants you the ability to make your armies whatever color you want and to change their symbol and banner.

BAD-Er...not much.-I actually can't really think of anyhting bad.-I guess the unit population could be higher...-Oh to heck with it, just get the game, you won't regret it!',

'Metal Arms: Glitch in the System'

' This is a FPS game I played on Gamecube. This game is pretty good, overall. The single player mode is challenging, though somewhat short. There are MANY ways to get through each level as well. There is a wide assortment of weapons. One other thing I like about it is that, once you beat the single player mode, there are tons of secret things you have to find to get the rest of the multiplayer levels. So now comes the good and the bad!

GOOD-Great graphics...this game is visualy stunning::Excellent gameplay. In fact, the unique weapon switch design is seen rarely in most games.::EXTREME MULTIPLAYER!!! I promise you...if you get three buddies over for some 4-player mayhem in this game, as long as you've got all the multiplayer levels unlocked, you're in for a GOOD time. In fact, the best aspect of this game to me is the multiplayer.

BADWell, this game does have a few things wrong with it. First of all, the multiplayer, though very fun, is somewhat limited in a sense. The levels are much smaller than many people are used to, and often they are made up of duplicate hallways and rooms, so it is hard to tell where you are.

CONCLUSION

Overall, this is a good game. I reccomend getting it, as the prices have dropped a lot now. It's well worth the money, and you'll like it if you like fast-paced FPS's.

'Morrowind: Game of the Year edition (XBox)',

'Morrowind... it has many of the elements of a great RPG... including a massive world, many secret caves and items to find, and many sidequests. The problem comes from having too much of those things.

Story: 4/10
The low score may surprise you, but there isn't that great of a main story to the game. Now, maybe I'd say different if I had played the previous Elder Scrolls games, but as a newbie to the series I can't say much.

Reaslism of the World: 9/10
Odd category, so let me explain. This is how accurate to a real fantasy world that this game seems. And it does seem very accurate. Many books, some are pretty well-written (if you can find 'em, try the Mystery of Talara series) and others tell you about the history of Vvardenfell and the religion of the locals. In addition, everyone has a reason to search as many of them give you skill boosts For example, The Third Door raises your Axe skill a point. Also, there are many references to politics in Vvardenfell and they are pretty well-done. My only gripe is that everyone you can ask about certain topics seems to know the exact same amount about them.

Size of the World: 6/10
Yes, the world is massive. And yes, I gave it a low score. Fact is, it's too big sometimes, and that affects loading times. Also, often you will find yourself not knowing where to go next. There are quick travel options, but there's still a lot of walking that does need to be done.

Graphics: 6/10
The Xbox can do better. No more must be said, really, but I'll continue. Rain falls through structures and rocks. Characters are needlessly polygonal and movement is stiff. I'll compliment them on the buildings - each town has a distinct architectural style, based on the Great House that runs them, which is a nice touch.

Sound: 6/10
The voices are pretty good, and the monster sounds are nicely done. Problem is, each monster has a grand total of one sound. Music is great when it finally becomes audible, but that's a long wait. Weapon sound changes based on how much force is behind it, which is nice but I'd rather hear the music clearly more than I did.

Gameplay: 6/10
Here's a problem. This game feels like it caters to a specific audience, those who like to explore the game world and find things rather than be pointed to them. To those people, this is a great game. For those who like real directions in the game or intense combat, this game isn't such a great idea. Also, this game has more frequent bugs than the original version, which is something I expected Bethesta Softworks to to a bit better on than they did.

Added Content:There's no doubt about it, the Game of the Year edition has more weapons, more quests, more enemies, and more places to explore.

I have the game, and I've loved every non-loading minute of it. But I like exploration, and I don't mind being thrown into a quest with no real instructions. If you are like me, this game will seem to deserve far more than the 7 I'm going to give it. But to the rest, try renting the original. If you like it, you may want to consider getting the GotY version.',
