Since Photo Album's reserved for pictures of you and other members, how about pictures you just randomly took that you want to share?

Often I'll be editing photos or clicking through posts I'd made in other places and wish I could share them here. Well, why not?

Anyway, you know the rules. Keep it safe for work (for the most part).

This is NOT a macro-sharing thread. This is for pictures you or a friend took with your camera or webcam. It doesn't have to have you in the picture (as that's Photo Album's territory).

And please try to keep the photo sizes reasonable so they can be seen easily and enjoyed without having to scroll too much.

So without any further ado, here's some random pics I took at Anime Expo:

ax002
There were maybe 40 different girls dressed up as Yoko, like the above.

ax003 ax014 ax031 ax030 ax029 ax017

More here. Still in the middle of editing the AX pictures, so what's posted is still only about half of what I've got.

So pictures! Share 'em!!

Supposedly, at Comic-Con this past weekend, Peter Jackson started out a panel saying he wanted to clear up any and all rumors regarding The Hobbit. He said the film hasn't even been greenlit yet and with that, any casting that's being discussed is all rumor because they can't go offering anyone any parts yet.

Here's one of the articles on it: http://scifiwire.com/2009/07/sdcc-peter-jackson-clears.php

Still would be kinda interesting to see who lands what when casting does finally start.

Was at Comic-Con last week. Usually they bring all the big name stars out to promote their upcoming movies, but there was seriously nothing I was that interested in (except for Iron Man 2, but I wasn't willing to fight my way into that panel room this year).

Tons of fangirls were camping out for the Twlight 2 panel. The panel wasn't until Thursday afternoon and and they had already started camping Tuesday.

There was apparently a lot of drama over it because most of the people waiting that long were mothers who were obsessing over the books and movies even moreso than their daughters.

While waiting for the two panels that followed it, we watched the pilot episode for CW's new series "The Vampire Diaries." They seriously started out the panel with, "The book our show is based on came BEFORE Twilight and ours is better!!" The show is pretty much the same premise as Twilight--vampires on Dawson's Creek featuring mortal Mary-Sueish girl with vampire pretending to be a high school student.

Heh, whenever the episode faded to black and then came back on everyone in the room groaned or loudly went, "AWWWWW!!" It's somewhat sad that people were showing such displeasure. I mean, the actors and people who made that show were in the room.

I wasn't at the Twilight 2 panel, but I've heard horror stories of a 50-something asking "Edward" and "Jacob" if they wear boxers or briefs or nothing.

I just think it's all funny.

I mean, there were people walking the convention floor brandishing cardboard signs that read, "TWILIGHT RUINED COMIC-CON!!" If Comic-Con was ruined for you because of a few screaming fans taking up the first day in one panel room, you're either an idiot who can't survive the first freaking day at Comic-Con or you're just plain shallow.

Every other person who has voiced a complaint listed what they believe "Comic-Con is for" and you know what's hilarious? "Comics" are either never on their list or they fall behind "anime," "video games," "movie premieres," etc.

Yep. Comic-Con can be an everything, alpha-omega convention but when something the "true geeks" don't like comes wafting through the doors bringing screaming "outsiders" with it, suddenly the "That doesn't belong here!!"s and "This ruins EVERYTHING!!"s come out.

The Mythbusters have been coming for the last couple years and not one person has complained about it. What do the Mythbusters have to do with comics... or anime... or science fiction? That's what I thought. Incidentally, every single Mythbusters panel has been FILLED with screaming and shouting men.

It's just sort of funny that 30, 40 and 50-something year old men can ogle and objectify a young, female panelist (Megan Fox, Hayden Panettiere, etc), but when the pendulum swings the other way it's pedophilic and creepy to the whole. Helllllllooooo, double standards.

So yeah, my thoughts on the Twilight controversy in a nutshell.

I had tons of fun at Con. It was really surreal and amazing this year.

Anyway, back on the topic of what's coming out that might be worth the time to watch it...

I may see the Wachowski-backed Ninja Assassin. It doesn't look great, but mindless action films, penned by comic book writers, just hits the spot sometimes.

And I don't care what anyone says, Sherlock looks damn entertaining.

So I got jabbed in the foot with a rusty, kinda funky-looking nail the other day.

I mentioned it to a few friends. They all flipped out. Said I should get a tetanus shot as soon as possible.

Though I could usually go to my university, get the shot, and it wouldn't cost a thing, since it's the summer months, they charge a one-time only fee of $45 to come in if you aren't currently taking classes.

So I'm calling up all over the place looking for a clinic that I can get a tetanus shot for cheap.

The city's immunization clinic is charging $20 for the shot, $30 just for walking in. And they only do injections Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

I called up all sorts of clinics yesterday and finally received a few call-backs. Not one of them does tetanus shots. Seriously? Isn't it standard practice?

They start giving me numbers for random places in towns farther away. I call them. Every time I explained the situation and that I need a tetanus shot, they seemed to pause and go, "Yeah, we don't do that here..." And they'd always say it with the emphasis and hint of sarcasm as though I were calling for a massage with a happy ending.

I finally got in touch with someone a couple towns over. I explained what happened and asked if I could get a shot and the man on the other end simply answered, "Yes!" I asked how much it would cost and he answered, "Oh it's free. I don't know why anyone would charge for that."

I asked where he was located as I had pretty much just been given their number 2 minutes prior, he told me and said they don't open 'til noon.

So yeah, go nice man at the free clinic. Boo, everyone else.

It's supposedly common practice to give someone a tetanus shot if they go to a hospital and have an open wound and they can't remember the last time they were inoculated, which is of course, rather common.

Anyway, fuck people who come to the free clinic and bitch about their time being more important than others' and demanding they get seen next. First off, you're getting a FREE service. Secondly, you weren't here first. Third, your problem isn't as severe as other people's.

And last thought for now, fuck people who treat poverty (especially THESE DAYS) like it's a crime. This is something that has always bothered me. Many, if not most, homeless can't help being homeless.

When I was in high school, I used to hang out in what was considered a "bad part of town," as it was full of drug dealers, homeless, and generally poorer families and individuals. This one girl, from a somewhat wealthy family, used to hang with my friends and act all elitist. One night she saw a homeless guy sleeping in the bushes near this courtyard we'd just sit and talk in. She actually went down the block, to the local police station to "narc" on the fellow, as she worded it, for vagrancy.

My other friends just rationalized that at least the guy would have a place to sleep for the night, but it really bothered me.

Every now and then, my mind plays on that memory. What a fucking small person you must be to tattle on someone in such a situation.

Posted on 08-06-09 09:55 PM, in The Gap and Levi Strauss denim a danger to children in Africa Link
I saw this report on this denim factory that produces the fabric for Gap and Levi's jeans and how it was polluting and dumping in Lesotho (country within South Africa).

The blue dye for the denim is flooding the river which the villagers use for food and bathing, and they're also dumping denim scraps and such which children are digging through for scraps they can sell for cooking fuel. Problem is the children are getting cut by razors and needles and being exposed to harmful chemicals while they do all this.

An article on it can be found here, as news of this broke this past weekend.

What are your thoughts? Do you feel Gap and Levi Strauss have a social responsibility to fix this situation?

I mean, Gap prides itself on selling T-shirts supposedly raising money for AIDS awareness groups and getting celebrities to wear them, why not go the extra mile and pick up the mess the fabric that goes into their jeans is causing?

Now THAT I don't have a problem with reporting, especially after she tried attacking your dog and selling drugs.

It just bothers me when people take the presence of homeless as a threat if they're just minding their own business and moving along.

The memory was dredged up yesterday when my boyfriend and I were on this main street, my boyfriend getting money at the ATM for lunch and I was sitting in the car, waiting. This man comes along pushing a cart piled high with his worldly possessions. He's filthy, he looks tired, and he's just pushing his way down the street not bothering anoyone. Suddenly this police car speeds up and hits the brakes right next to him. This lady cop gets out of the driver's side and starts yelling at the homeless man saying he couldn't be there. Pretty much it boiled down to that he has to get out of town NOW or he'll be arrested, because you know, homeless can just pick up 200+ pounds of stuff and sprint a few miles so they're the next town over's problem.

I don't know how it all ended as my boyfriend got in the car and we drove off.

I do agree that there's a lot of corruption out there that we're just not seeing.

I wonder why their denim isn't made in the U.S.

Since visuals often help in cases like these:

The China Post is reporting that Nien Hsing, the Taiwainese firm that runs this factory, denies the things shown in the video are happening.

The only place I could see it I suppose, is where they're saying they don't have children working in their factory for 10 hours a day. No, the article identified those as children digging through the dump for scraps that they can sell.

EDIT: Had to fix the link.

Well, that's a thousand times better than I can draw. It looks damn hot too.

The only thing that weirds me out a little is what's going on between her legs. I get that it's supposed to be her rear, but it's a bit odd.

Still, HAWT!

Posted on 08-10-09 02:42 AM, in Surveys/quizzes/memes about yourself Link
I'm sitting around watching PBS, eating rice cakes and drinking tallboys of Mountain Dew. LET'S DO THIS!!

I actually just Googled for a random survey, copied and pasted this and haven't read the question yet.

Have you ever licked the back of a CD to try to get it to work?
- Did that a few times with DVDs. And yes, they actually worked afterward.

What's the largest age difference between yourself and someone youve date
- 12 years.

Ever been in a car wreck?
- Yes, twice. The car was totaled the first time.

Were you popular in high school?
- Depending on your definition of popular. Well-known, yes. Hanging out with the "cool" kids, no.

Have you ever been on a blind date?
- If you don't count someone I spoke to on the internet and then hung out with in real life, then no.

Are looks important?
- If they are, then I'm screwed.

Do you have any friends that you've known for 10 years or more??
- Yeah, but none of them I speak to on a regular basis.

By what age would you like to be married?
- Honestly, I don't care.

Does the number of people a person's slept with affect your view of them?
- Nope. Doesn't matter what gender or how many they've had at a time either.

Have you ever made a mistake?
- Who the hell hasn't?

Are you a good tipper?
- I'm quite generous if the service is good. If the service is absolutely dismal they're getting pocket change or nothing at all.

What's the most you have spent for a haircut?
- I've never paid to get my hair done. My mom did pay $80 when she insisted I go to a salon with her in sophomore year. I hated that cut. My hair didn't seem to grow back for 4 years.

Have you ever had a crush on a teacher?
- Yes. At least 3 of them. All three were so intelligent and distinguished. I swear this history teacher I had could have easily been on the cover of GQ.

Have you ever peed in public?
- Nope.

What song do you want played at your funeral?
- Ugh, this question again. Uh... let's play to cliches now. The Beatles' "Across the Universe," John Cale's piano cover of "Hallelujah," and just to get people dancing "Best Years of Our Lives" by the Baha Men.

Would you tell your parents if you were gay?
- Well, why the hell not? I mean, I'm already not Catholic which upsets Mom and well, Dad just wants me to graduate.

What would your last meal be before getting executed?
- Hmm... this question also comes up a lot and I never know what to answer because I'd want so many different things and I'd pretty much be happy with anything that tastes good. If Brandon were to decide for me, he'd get me a burrito stuffed with all kinds of Mexican meats and beans and rice and cheese and spices. Heh, I pity the person who'd have to pick up after me when my bowel and bladder release.

Beatles or Stones?
- I'm not really a huge fan of either. But there are several Beatles songs I love, and maybe one or two Rolling Stones songs I adore, so I guess by default the Beatles.

If you had to pick one person on earth to die, who?
- *Sigh* I hate this question. Death just shouldn't be wished on anyone.

Beer, wine or hard liquor?
- Among those? Hard liquor. It's just that kinda mood, although I could take any.

Do you have any phobias?
- I'm slightly claustro, but it's mostly out of concern of being trapped anywhere. I also HATE crowds or people invading my space (being within 6 inches of me). Makes me feel uncomfortable and trapped.

What are your plans for the future?
- I'm going year by year really. At this point it's graduate and find a job I like.

Do you walk around the house naked?
- No. Only very rarely when no one's home and I'm running to get clothes out of the dryer.

If you were an animal what would you be?
- Hmm... not sure. Can I say human? No? Damn. That always works with Star Trek races. All right.. uh.. a dolphin.

Hair color you like on someone you're dating?
- I tend to go for darker colors it seems, though if a hot guy with a dazzling personality and similar interests were digging on me and I were single and he happened to have blond or red hair, I'm sure I could make allowances.

Would you rather be blind or deaf?
- Deaf, but seriously with the way my sight is going it probably wouldn't make much difference.

Do you have any special talents?
- Uh.. writing, I guess. I can pick things up pretty quickly and I tend to solve problems and finish things before deadline.

What do you do as soon as you walk in the house?
- Walk up the stairs to my room. Maybe sit at the computer and check my mail.

Do you like horror or comedy?
- Between those two, comedy. Unless the horror's just too fucking funny or awesome.

Are you missing anyone?
- Sort of. I miss most people these days.

If you weren't straight, what person of the same sex would you do?
- Salma Hayek.

Where do you want to live when you are old?
- England.

Who is the person you can count on the most?
- Brandon.

If you could date any celebrity past or present, who would it be?
- Suleiman the Magnificent. Mmm, smexy.

What did you dream last night?
- That I snapped off one of my cat's ears.

What is your favorite sport to watch?
- Fuck if I know... uh, poetry slams.

Are you named after anyone?
- Jesus Christ. Seriously.

What is your favorite alcoholic drink?
- Jager bomb, I suppose. Ciders and meads after that.

Non alcoholic drink?
- Jones Soda.

Have you ever been in love?
- In love right now.

Do you sing in the shower?
