To be honest that sounds REALLY exaggerated. CSUF isn't getting rid of its part-time staff, at least not all of them.

We are going through a hiring freeze and they are making cuts where they can, but I'm still going to be rather skeptical until I see an official announcement about the staff. It sounds like speculation to me among all the fears of fee hikes, furloughs, and the like.

EDIT: Fixing HTML coding.

Oh dear... that part about walking up in the middle of the night hits home. Ha, not really, but sort of.

I'm leaving it at that.

Perhaps that teacher is just getting laid off from both schools?

If all part-timers were going to be cut, someone (a bitter, soon-to-be-unemployed, doctorate-holding unappreciated educator, perhaps) would have told the press by now and there would be outrage and stories all over about this.

The only AP story regarding CSU budget cuts in the past few days mentions employees agreeing to take furloughs.

There doesn't appear to be anything in the Daily 49er or University Times (granted their site doesn't seem to be updated at all), and we haven't heard anything at our paper either. Our school's president, Milton Gordon, stops by to talk with us when something serious is about to be announced.

I don't doubt that the teacher said it, and I completely understand being pissed about being laid off by two schools, it just doesn't sound plausible that they entire Cal State system would hack off every single part-timer. CSULB and CSULA might just be doing it on their own.

I know there's a "Day Without the CSU" planned for next semester where the entire system has a furlough day, and we're still going to have a furlough week on top of every professor taking 2 furlough days a month.

Seriously, this was the semester that just took a shit on my chest and didn't leave me breakfast in the morning. So much work and school and bullshit regarding both. I'm stoked that winter break is upon us (though I still have to do a final tomorrow morning).

So what are your winter plans? Any trips? Family visits?

I'm looking forward to a short trip to Arizona, and hopefully a week or so in San Francisco next month. Plenty of sleep and other things in between.

Helping my veterinarian uncle around his clinic when I was 14. They paid $20 cash a day during the summer.

But I guess if that doesn't count, my first job that entailed a paycheck with taxes, clocking in and out, and all that was when I was 17 running the medical records room (making new files, filing old files and new things that go in them, sending files to other clinics, etc) for a Kaiser Permanente psychiatric clinic.

What's the last great book you read and what was it about?

Yeah, I think I'll go see "Princess and the Frog" again.

In all honesty, though, I keep hearing that all this movie did for them was make them appreciate "District 9" all the more.

I love action movies, but I really don't like how CG is taking over.

Happy belated Solstice, y'all!

It's probably the first time in years that no family is traveling any great distances to be in Southern California for Christmas. Just going to be Brandon, my parents, some of my dad's clients and friends, and perhaps my grandmother if she's up for us picking her up and bringing her by.

So far I've been thoroughly enjoying having nothing to do except go hiking or sit and read. This past weekend was great, though. Knife and ax-throwing, a banquet, hanging with Stitch, brownies at the observatory, beignets, mojitos, Christmas lights and coffee, and hours of air hockey. Spent yesterday hiking to a waterfall, meditating, and then gorging on cheese bread for dinner. Mmmm...

Need to let out some steam...

Fuck drama at work. One of the things that sucks about hanging out with people from work is when talk goes back to how much they hate so-and-so or what have you. I consider everyone at work a friend no matter how stupid and arrogant they've been acting over the past week and how disappointed I am in their attitudes lately. However, it's become far too draining listening to everyone talk about quitting because next semester's going to suck being under a fascist's thumb and so forth.

Fuck Brandon's sister's attitude. I can't be around Sara for more than a few minutes any more. She acts like a know-it-all drama queen and throws a fit all the time when she doesn't completely get her way. She's already pissed off that we're not leaving before Christmas for Arizona, because Brandon and I will be at Christmas with my family since I always spend Thanksgiving with hers. We freaking celebrate Christmas on the 27th whenever we're out there anyway since that's when Brandon's family can come together.

I can't freakin' believe Brandon and I have to haul her and Joseph, her and Brandon's brother, with us to Arizona Christmas day. Taking one or the other is easy, but Joey and Sara just don't get along. That's a 6-8 hour car ride. Usually Sara goes out with their aunt who lives near L.A. and heads out for Christmas around the same time we do, but Sara's burned her bridge with her with her shitty attitude.

She's also been throwing a fit about wanting to live with Brandon and me at my parents' house, since their father is moving away and she wants to maintain her relationship with this boy she's just started seeing.

Yeah, fuck her demanding, all-about-me bullshit. She's fine in small doses, but I just cannot be near near her for very long any more.

Oh my god... I'm so sorry. Hope things work out and your dad starts treating your mom better.

As fate would have it, we may not be able to go to Arizona this weekend afterall. We'll see. Don't want to jinx it.

So yeah, looks like there's a new batch of remakes coming, which several people are strategically calling "reboots" so more people will come watch without the worry of having to know anything about the previous and giving the impression that it'll restart the franchise in a currently more favorable light.

Here's the first one out the gate for this post. Will Smith's son being taught by Jackie Chan in "The Karate Kid":

The late Steve Irwin's daughter, Bindi, stars in her very own "Free Willy" reboot:

I haven't really heard of anything going on for New Year's, but then again I've been buried under the CSUF rock(slide) for the past year. I mean, I still see Pat and Christina when I can (and Lee whenever he or I can visit), but otherwise I hear nothing unless I get invited to a party at Rosy's or something.

If anyone's got anything going on, it's probably Pat. Otherwise, Brandon and I end up going to Marty and Becky's.

But in answer to the first question, mostly just finding new places to hike. Bailey's Canyon was that last one on Monday that had a waterfall. Brandon and I just sat and listened to the crickets and birds, the trickling water, the occasionally rock falling and us breathing. It was one of those places where time and the rest of the world just fall away as you sit there.

I was going to post a Squeakquel video, but then again we all already know about it and ... yeah. I think what sort of sneakily drew me to thinking about it favorably was the fact that they included the Chipettes. It's sort of a low blow, especially since I'm such a sucker for the "Single Ladies" meme.

But then again, with the whole performance online, why bother seeing it in theaters?

It's funny. Bill Murry plays himself in "Zombieland." Avoiding as many spoilers on that one as I can, someone turns to him and asks if he has any regrets. "Garfield, probably," he says.

I've got no interest in a "Marmaduke" movie. Never really got into the comic strip. I'm kinda surprised that with all this barrel bottom-scraping no one optioned a "Family Circus" movie.

Yeah, Pat comes to Voidcrush shows and we hang out when we can. His grandmother just passed away.

The last time we hung out, he, Christina, her roommates, Brandon and I were watching bad porn and commenting on it. "Porn Wars" sounds like it's gonna be good, but damn... just... damn. Had to watch the sex scenes on fast forward just to get back to the story. "Pirates" has spoiled our generation.

Anyway, Merry Christmas, everyone!

Hmm, panning for gold. I do want to try mining for tourmaline some time.

My present haul was relatively small this year. Mostly scarves and gloves and a little bit of money. Not surprised, since last year both Brandon's and my family started this whole "We shouldn't feel pressured to give anyone anything, especially during this depression" agreement not to give anything. The scarves were immediately put to use leaving for Arizona yesterday, as it's practically freezing and we had a carload of people.

I'm quite surprised our car made it actually. A couple days ago, while heading out for a hike, there was a rockslide while trying to avoid running over a rock with the tire, Brandon swerved, and the underside of the car took the hit. We immediately pulled off and noticed the sure and steady leak from the gas tank. Luckily a Triple-A tow truck was at the same pull-off and he patched our tank and towed us home. Seemed after we patched the tank ourselves, a series of other things went wrong where the car just didn't want to start for a day and then wouldn't idle. This all after having to replace the master and slave cylinders late last week.

Well, life would be boring, I guess, without these problems cropping up. Still shocked we made it the 400 miles. When we got out, the car started making a weird noise and leaking what looked like coolant. Huzzah.

Seriousy, though, I keep seeing House and Wilson whenever I make the comparison to RDJ and Jude Law seeing as their characters are based loosely (though there are MANY parallels) on Holmes and Watson.

I haven't seen it yet, but I probably will eventually.

Well, no one took well to an Indiana Jones sequel a couple years ago.

And oh dear god, a Back to the Future reboot? That would definitely mark the end of days.

This whole reboot thing needs to stop or at least slow down, though. In my American Studies class this semester, we watched the first Trekkies documentary. Beforehand the professor asked who considered themselves a Star Trek fan. I was the sole person who raised her hand. Then the prof asked who went to see the new Star Trek movie this summer. Almost every single hand in the class of 40 people was raised. The professor asked why they did, and several people said they heard it was a reboot so they didn't feel like they had to know anything about Star Trek and they like starting fresh with something. I don't know why, but I felt offended.

It's also insane how superhero movies can be rebooted almost instantly (Punisher, Hulk, etc). People have been marching around Comic-Con for the last couple years demanding a Superman reboot. I'm already hearing BS about people protesting for Watchmen reboot.

At the same time it's interesting, because some reboots will pick and choose what part of the franchise they want to follow. McG said that "Terminator Salvation" was going to follow T1 and T2, but ignore that T3 was even made.

Good trip out for Christmas 2 with Brandon's family. Went hiking along riverbeds in the snow, went through some native ruins that you could actually climb the ladders of and walk into, ate all kinds of crazy amazing food (some in what's been deemed a haunted restaurant), and went through the giant dinosaurs from the Peewee Herman movie which have since been purchased by a group that swears evolution is a myth.

I love winter break. Lots of great hiking.

It's seriously a miracle our car is running.
