One episode left and they've taken the story in a completely new direction. I'm not sure what to think of it. I mean, it's only a 6-episode season and all, but I'm already wondering if the show has jumped the zombie shark.
I started reading Best Week Ever's Walking Dead recaps, and they kept restating exactly what I was thinking with different episodes. I mean, the books (what I've read so far) were pretty good, and the show is feeling a bit superficial. Like you guys, I'm not really into zombies either. Zombie apocalypses seem so ridiculous to me, and I'm sick of going to convention panels where someone defaults on asking, "What's your zombie plan?" as though it's this deep question that only this celebrity who does nothing associated with zombies can answer. |

I'm sure I'm not the first person to have immediately thought of Hank Hill getting humped by the dolphin. No? I thought not. |

The Tea Party party is arguing that those who own property in the U.S. have a greater vested interest in what goes on in this country, and that "non-property owners" should be stripped of their right to vote.
|
In this instance property pretty much refers to land. If you live in an apartment, your voice in government would be silenced. Several big name conservatives are backing this idea including Supreme Court justice Anthony Scalia, Georgia congressman Paul Broun, and Texas governor Rick Perry. SOURCE Now the question remains ... Should the United States repeal the 17th amendment? Is it true that property-owners should be the only ones with political say? For those on this board who aren't American, what are the conditions for being able to vote in your country and is property ownership a factor? (Last edited by Rogue on 12-02-10 08:40 PM)

To be honest, Thex, I completely agree with you.
|
The Tea Party, while making the occasional valid point, cooks up some absurd ideas based on classist and racist notions. The article was the one referring to the 17th amendment, but I think this is more an issue of the 14th, which is pretty much states that the government cannot take away rights and privileges that have been given. It was also the 14th amendment which the Tea Party-ers (sp?) want to do away with, in that it gives citizenship to those born in the United States. It is their belief that you are not a citizen if you have a parent who is not (or wasn't when you were born). Their main argument in this are "anchor babies," but I can't help but wonder if this is feeding into the birthers' conspiracy theories and trying to have Obama removed.

Went and saw "The Warrior's Way" tonight. It was entertaining, but the excessive, obvious CG hurt it.
|
At the Asian media convention I went to last month, the producers said they wanted to film in the Badlands (Arizona/New Mexico area) but decided to just shoot it in New Zealand. Being a lover of Arizona's terrain and sunsets and ghosttowns and such, and then seeing these green-screened backgrounds, it was kinda depressing. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-05-10 03:20 AM)

Seriously, guys?

No child that was slapped today is going to suddenly not be slapped tomorrow because a lot of people on Facebook changed their profile pictures to reflect their favorite cartoons growing up. Not on Facebook? Apparently the delusional, youth culture of Facebook believe the site is a world-changing factor in reducing child abuse cases. Know Your Meme.

Well I understand doing it just for fun. The meme started just for that.

And I get awareness. AIDS ribbons show support for sufferers of it. Cancer events caution people to get checked out and make sure they don't have it. I do the breast cancer thread every year, and hell, Tom Green did a song about feeling your balls. Guess what? Someone did, discovered they had a lump, got a physical, and saved himself before it was too late. But I just don't understand how seeing cartoon characters is going to inspire an abusive parent to suddenly not harm their child. It's more preaching to the choir, I suppose.

Oh god, so now people are saying this trend was started by pedophiles who try to friend kids by having a cartoon character as their profile pic and are insisting that people who have cartoon profile pics just might be child molesters now.
|
No links or news stories to back this information. Don't you just love when memes and the stories around them get out of hand? If only we could get rumors off the ground that people who Rickroll others are Satan-worshiping child molesters or something. (Last edited by Rogue on 12-07-10 03:07 PM)

Having interviewed Shirley Phelps-Roper (another story here), I'm not shocked by any of this.
|
First off, the WBC loves IEDs, and such a thing took this poor man's legs. They've inspired violence from counter-protesters, veterans, families of deceased soldiers, and others like them before. On top of this, the WBC are lawyers. They have a family firm. The family makes its money suing the shit out of people who mistreat them. And they THRIVE on people speaking against them, threatening them, attacking them, doing ANYTHING that helps them get noticed and makes them throw up their hands and claim they are martyrs for Christ. What this poor man should have done is lived the rest of his life and not given the WBC a second thought. What he was planning was wrong, but I can't help but feel for him.

Originally posted by Bitmap Thank you, and yeah, that's my voice. Someone else edited the video. My boyfriend shot most of the footage with a FlipCam. On a side note, a media law professor saw that pic of Shirley on the street corner on the front page of the paper and asked if she could use it in the next five editions of her textbook. Finally got a copy of it. But back on topic, I don't wish ill on the WBC, but I don't think I would cry for them either. Sort of like Jerry Falwell. Loss of life, any life, is tragic. I'm wondering what they will do when Fred dies, though. The WBC have argued that they picket funerals because it's worshiping the dead. I highly doubt they will leave their charismatic

Wanna hear another one? Shirley's first child, of her 11, was born outside of wedlock. |

Originally posted by Lord Nelrith the Badass Doesn't it? I was shocked, though. Shirley was REALLY nice. When I walked up to her and her daughters as they were getting out of the van and asked her if I could ask her a few questions for the paper, she smiled and said sure, but to wait until they were set up first. As we were walking toward where their corner, I just asked her, "How's your father?" and she answered, "Oh, he's fine, thanks." I was the first person to interview them, and 15 minutes after they spoke to me they refused interviews. She was so sweet to me that I actually spent the rest of the day meditating on the interview, wondering if history's tyrants, fascists, and dictators were just as nice if you spoke to them. Seriously... it was perspective changing. But yeah, there's several amusing ironies/hypocrisies with them. The main one being that they HATE America. They dance and sing "I'm Ashamed to be an American Where the Fags Can Freely Roam" in place of the lyrics to "Proud to be an American" among other songs. They cheer when American soldiers die and when tragedies befall this country's people. BUT, they demand police protection. They sue people utilizing the justice system. Above all, they clamor behind the First Amendment, the spirit of the American dream. And on top of this, they would NEVER leave the U.S., no matter how frequently they bash it. I'm supposed to be writing a paper right now. Ha!
|
I've got two papers due in a few hours and a group project presentation at 7. Need to finish the two papers first, go to school, turn them in, drive back like a bat out of hell and work on the stuff for the group project and then head back to school. Then there's two things due tomorrow. At least next week is finals. I've got a test and two papers due. Fucking A.
