Summer. I absolutely hate the heat, especially if the heat is accompanied with humidity. I used to love summer since it's also convention season, but now that there are so many cons during other months of the year, it's not necessarily special any longer.

Anyway... what is your idea of a perfect weekend?

Doc's super fast car won't do it. Neither will Bill and Ted's magic telephone booth. Physicists at the Hong Kong University of Technology and Science have just proved that no machine will ever allow a person to travel through time because time travel is flat-out impossible. Not just unlikely, or we don’t have the technology yet, but, beyond the limits of the physical laws of the universe.

You might think time travel has always belonged in the world of fantasy, but 10 years ago some scientists began to believe time travel might actually be possible when superluminal -- or faster-than-light -- propagation of some specific medium were discovered. It was later found to be a visual effect, but the idea that a single photon could exceed the speed of light lingered, and with it, the possibility of time travel.

But in a study published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal Physical Review Letters, Shengwang Du and his team measured the ultimate speed of a single photon and showed that it cannot move faster than the speed of light.

"The results add to our understanding of how a single photon moves. They also confirm the upper bound on how fast information travels with light," Du said in a statement put out by the Hong Kong University of Technology and Science.

"By showing that single photons cannot travel faster than the speed of light, our results bring a closure to the debate on the true speed of information carried by a single photon."

Personally, I'm disappointed that time travel has been shown to be impossible, but at the same time I'm invigorated that scientists were studying time travel as an actual possibility!

For more on the science behind time travel, check out "How to build a time machine," written last year by the one and only Stephen Hawking.

So no nude trips to the past to warn of the rise of Skynet, everyone, whether or not it's really happened.

I'm actually dying to see two movies in theaters right now: Captain America and Cowboys and Aliens (coming soon!). Not sure if I'll go see them in the first-run or wait until cheap theater. I really don't think I could wait until then.

Anyway, last film I saw was last night -- went and saw a screening of the extended, remastered The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly on the beach. Brandon and I laid out our Mexican blankets in the sand and had a grand, old time. I've always loved Clint Eastwood's movies with The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly being my favorite. Unforgiven is a very close second.

I'd never seen the extended scenes before, and damn, surround sound with that AMAZING score and 3 1/2 hours of Clint Eastwood hotness. <3 <3 <3

While I wait for one friend who's waiting for her uncle and another friend to get done running errands, I'mma fill this out.

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
- Scar on my right knee. Fell on an escalator on my way to a university class, went to the health center, where my knee needed 8 stitches. I couldn't bend my knee for two weeks, during which time I went on a road trip to Arizona, went to two Renaissance faires, a comic book convention, and another celebrating The Big Lebowski.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR BEDROOM?
- Sigh... a carved, Indonesian wooden panel, two brass rubbings of people's grave markers from the English Dark Ages, two paintings of tall ships, a print pinned to the wall of a painting someone did of Frida Kahlo being raped by a skeleton, two Indonesian masks, a gilded mirror with peacock feathers and other things on it, below that is a shelf (with my tankards, a sperm whale tooth done up with scrimshaw, pewter pins, etc), a couple of horseshoes bent to be coathangers (and on those are jackets, scarves, a fox tail, and my bandannas), a series of IKEA shelves for my DVDs and VHS tapes, and an antique bedwarmer from the actual Chicken Ranch (the "best little whorehouse in Texas" of history).

3. WHAT DOES YOUR MOBILE PHONE LOOK LIKE?
- It's black and blue. Says LG and Verizon on it. I've got a picture of a painting of a cowgirl skeleton holding a gun as the front wallpaper, and a paper mache skeleton with a Tree of Life (picture I took at a Day of the Dead festival in Hollywood) as the wallpaper inside.

4. WHAT MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
- Hard to say. I listen to just about anything if it strikes my fancy.

5. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN?
- Around 5 in the evening.

6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
- To be completely healthy.

7. WHO DO YOU MISS?
- A few people, I guess. Christina is at the top since I haven't seen her in months.

8. IS ANYONE IN LOVE WITH YOUR OR HAS A CRUSH ON YOU?
- I suppose.

9. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU KISSED?
- Brandon.

10. WHAT’S YOUR MIDDLE NAME?
- Marie.

11. THE BEST TV SHOW EVER CREATED:
- It's between Mythbusters and Boardwalk Empire, as far as I'm concerned. I have other favorite shows, but these are pretty landmark.

12. THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO?
- Brandon, by default, since he lives in my room.

13. DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
- Yes.

14. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
- An amateur writer who wrote a rather sweet, romantic story.

15. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE COLOGNE / PERFUME?
- I do not know. Raspberry vanilla, I suppose.

16. WHAT KIND OF HAIR/EYE COLOUR DO YOU LIKE ON THE OPPOSITE SEX?
- Dark hair, hazel eyes.

17. WOULD YOU RATHER BE SMART OR FUNNY?
- I've always been closer to the first, and never the latter. I sort of wonder what it would be like to actually be funny.

18. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINKS?
- Coffee.

19. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PIZZA TOPPING?
- Mushrooms.

20. IF YOU CAN EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
- Mac 'n' cheese with cheddar and ricotta.

OK, as I thought on that, I went about to checking the website of this restaurant that serves it as a side. It's not on the menu anymore!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!

21. WHO IS THE LAST PERSON WHO MADE YOU MAD?
- Bernadette.

22. DO YOU SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE?
- I'm still only a beginning speaker of Spanish.

23. WHAT WAS THE FIRST GIFT SOMEONE EVER GAVE YOU?
- Life?

24. DO YOU LIKE SOMEONE?
- I like a lot of people, but I really, fucking love one.

25. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
- Nope.

26. FAVOURITE CLOTHING BRAND?
- Clothing brand?

27. WHAT’S YOUR DREAM CAR?
- An International Harvester Scout II. Don't care about the year so long as it runs and you can take the top off.

28. WHAT COLOUR IS IT?
- Is what?

29. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE KIND OF EXERCISE?
- Hiking.

30. WOULD YOU FALL IN LOVE KNOWING THAT THE PERSON IS LEAVING?
- I've had long distance relationships before if this is what it's about. If this is about the other person ending the relationship, I don't know. The heart is a tricky thing.

31. WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL SOMEONE HOW MUCH THEY MEAN TO YOU?
- It all depends on the person you're making the gesture of undying love for. As far as I know the best way would be to make a life-altering decision that means a lot to them (giving up drugs, etc), or at least making an effort to show you are in tune to their wants and needs (taking them on a trip to some place they've always dreamed of going to, moving with them when they get their dream job, etc).

32. WRITE A NUMBER FROM ONE TO A HUNDRED:
- 27.

33. BLONDES OR BRUNETTES?
- Brunettes.

34. WHAT IS THE ONE NUMBER YOU CALL OFTEN?
- 2. The speed dial for Brandon.

35. WHAT ANNOYS YOU MOST?
- Tough call these days. Right now I might go with unfounded arrogance on the part of people I don't see as being "all that."

35. HAVE YOU BEEN OUT OF YOUR COUNTRY? WHERE DID YOU GO? WHAT PLACE DID YOU LIKE BEST?
- Been to Mexico several times, and Canada once. When I was 18 spent a couple weeks in England and France. Out of all of them, London was my favorite.

36. YOUR WEAKNESSES?
- Too fat, too lazy.

37. FRIES/CHIPS, RICE OR BEANS?
- Beans.

38. FIRST JOB?
- Ran the medical records for a psychiatric clinic when I was 17.

39. EVER PRANK CALLED SOMEONE?
- Technically yes.

40. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED OUT THIS?
- Watching a movie with a friend, before she left to wait for her uncle at home.

41. IF YOU COULD GET PLASTIC SURGERY WHAT WOULD IT BE?
- Liposuction, I suppose.

42. WHY DID YOU FILL OUT THIS MEME?
- Because I'm bored, and 100 questions sounds like a good challenge.

43. WHAT DO YOU GET COMPLIMENTED ABOUT MOST?
- Work, when I have it.

44. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF ALCOHOL BECAME ILLEGAL?
- Hit up the inevitable speakeasys for drinks and jazz.

45. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
- World peace... haha, yeah right. OK, seriously, tickets to a trip around the world. Or just a trip in general.

46. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT?
- 0-1. Can I just have half of one and then give it back after 9 years or something?

47. WHERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
- Where? Since names are intangible I guess on my birth certificate. Named after Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.

48. DO YOU WISH ON STARS?
- No.

49. WHICH FINGER(S) IS YOUR FAVOURITE?

53. ANY BAD HABITS?
- They outnumber good ones by furlongs.

54. WHAT IS YOUR MOST EMBARRASSING CD ON THE SHELF?
- Hmm, I don't have a shelf for CDs any longer, but I guess the most embarrassing CD I own would be Ricky Martin or something in the same vein. Don't know where those CDs are, though.

55. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
- Sure, but I wouldn't get too close.

56. HAVE YOU EVER TOLD A SECRET YOU SWORE NOT TO TELL?
- Nothing that I've SWORN, no. I have, however, spoken of secret issues with others before.

57. DO LOOKS MATTER?
- No, and sometimes yes. Depends. I can love someone no matter what they look like, but honestly it might be difficult to find some things sexually attractive.

58. HOW DO YOU RELEASE YOUR ANGER?
- I go out.

59. WHERE IS YOUR SECOND HOME?
- It's the entire state of Arizona.

60. DO YOU TRUST OTHERS EASILY?

61. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE TOY AS A CHILD?
- My Sit-n-Spin.

62. HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE IN YOUR MOBILE PHONE?
- Over 100, I'm sure, since I have the numbers for editors and whole semesters of writers we hired from the DT, old study partners, and so on.

63. DO YOU USE SARCASM?
- Not at all.

64. DO YOU KNOW ANYONE FAMOUS?
- Hmm. Depends on your definition and how close. Loosely, yes. I've interviewed lots of people who are famous in one way or another and they recognize me. I'm acquaintances with people who are well-known here and there.

65. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN A MOSH PIT?
- Yes...

66. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A PLACE TO LIVE?
- Location, primarily.

67. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
- This thing assumes the person taking it has more than one? Heh. Rogue, E-Tine, E-Ten (both those last ones are things a couple friends call me), Tee-tine (parents' childhood name, which they still call me from time to time), Geek Pimptress (was regularly called this by an old friend), and Little Skillet (called this by a friend's friend-of-the-family).

68. HOW MANY HATS DO YOU OWN? WHAT'S YOUR HAT SIZE?
- A couple top hats. No idea what my hat size is.

69. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
- Not usually.

70. WERE YOU UPSET ABOUT STEVE IRWIN DYING?
- What? Uh...

71. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
- Hm, lavender and honey.

72. ARE YOU LAZY?
- Who told?

73. WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE SONGS AT THE MOMENT?
- At the moment... "Living After Midnight" as performed by Disturbed.

74. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE BAND?
- I have a few, but Flogging Molly and Poxy Boggards have been at the top of the list for years.

75. HOW MANY WISDOM TEETH DO YOU HAVE?
- Three. Hopefully two soon.

82. FAVOURITE TWO THINGS TO HATE:
- People who talk during movies and screaming fangirls.

- Hm, I just got back from getting a shit-ton of glass bottle soda. We'll see...

84. FAVOURITE ZODIAC SIGN
- Favorite? I suppose Capricorn, by default.

- Don't really care to watch sports.

86. WHAT IS YOUR HAIR COLOUR?
- Brown (with the occasional white hair).

87. EYE COLOUR?
- Brown.

88. DO YOU WEAR GLASSES?
- Occasionally.

89. SIBLINGS?
- None.

90. FAVOURITE MONTH(s)
- Hm, January, March, October, and November.

91. DO YOU LIKE SUSHI?
- Sure.

92. LAST THING YOU WATCHED?
- Seinfeld.

93. FAVOURITE DAY OF THE YEAR?
- Hard to say. Sure there's my birthday, but then there's other days like Thanksgiving where we usually head out to Arizona (my second home as mentioned above) and spend time with Brandon's family.

94. ARE YOU TOO SHY TO ASK SOMEONE OUT?
- Yes and no. I've approached guys before, but I still consider myself shy. Then again, I've been with the same guy for 7 years. I don't know if I'd be back in the game right away if it ended.

95. SUMMER OR WINTER?
- Winter.

96. KISSES OR HUGS?
- Hugs.

97. RELATIONSHIPS OR ONE-NIGHT STANDS?

I guess because tachyons are still only hypothetical. Physics is definitely not my strongest subject.

I'm still holding out for Warp technology. In that case it's not a matter of going faster than light, but rather folding space.

Not having a layout myself (any more), I don't think I've really been paying attention to them.

Then again, with how quickly you guys change them and how it now changes all posts you've made to reflect your new layout, it's even more difficult to pay attention.

In the process of downloading the newest episode of "The Guild." We'll see if I'm in this one.

Otherwise, TV's on. Not paying attention to it, but it's one a cooking show about Italy.

So... another set of friends are suddenly expecting. They're nearing 30 and are actually excited about being pregnant. I'm not allowed to say who (as you do know them, Elara, at least you know the guy involved), as I sort of consented to a verbal NDA while they sort out shit with other friends and family.

All I can say is, this couple have been together a year, and while the chick is more tolerable than his last two girlfriends (who put together are like 7 years of his life), I can only hope the usual shit I've been seeing with young, unmarried, pregnant couples doesn't happen with these two.

Yeah, I thought that was weird too.

Burlesque ripped off so many things as far as I'm concerned and tried to get away with it all claiming it was a tribute. Seriously, though, of all things to rip-off WHY Coyote Ugly?

Kinda pisses me off that the song that goes, "WHAT?! I Am a Good Girl," gets stuck in my head from time to time. I HATE that song.

But to continue on the rant about ripping things off, I swear a lot of the choreography was lifting out of Bob Fosse's repertoire, the film version of Cabaret specifically (but MANY of the shots were very Chicago-esque, perhaps even Sweet Charity). So it was kinda funny using Alan Cumming, who played Emcee in the revival of Cabaret, playing a similar character there.

That bit he did with the contortionists sort of reminded me of the song/dance "Two Ladies," from Cabaret, even. Frankly the best part of the film.

Yeah, I completely know what you're talking about here since I've been applying, interviewing, and even in some cases working on things lately and not hear back from anyone for either a really long time or not at all. Fucking aggravating.

Thank you, Long Beach theater for playing movies for cheap on the very first showing on Fridays. Cowboys and Aliens here I come.

And on top of THIS, some guys have supposedly debunked Drake's Equation saying that while it IS likely that there are 10,000 planets in the galaxy with intelligent life, it's more likely Earth is a rare exception.

SOURCE

Their reasoning comes from Bayes Theorem.

So now scientists are making it their business of dashing all further hopes Xeo had of driving 88 mile-an-hour speeding Delorean while banging Orion Slave Girls.

Won't somebody please think of the Xeo?

Saw it this morning. Finally a new Harrison Ford movie that didn't suck.

I liked it for the most part, but about 2/3rds in, some cheesiness with Olivia Wilde's character was starting to come out. Either way, I felt it was a pretty good film.

Thoughts?

$12, maybe? At the Primadonna on the way to Vegas with Lee right after my 21st birthday. I don't really gamble.

I'm pretty sure I of heard of this, pre-ponies.

Happy friendship day, y'all.

Hm, looking it. This holiday is new, but there've been World Friendship Days around the world. A friend of mine was trying to get my high school to acknowledge it years back. A worthy cause, really.

Little to none. If I can afford a variety that has "No Pulp" as an option I buy it. Then again I really only drink OJ when I'm sick.

The person below me... no wait... heh.

About 48 hours. Not entirely sure. It involved working a Rocky Horror convention in Las Vegas.

Just got back from seeing it. I definitely like A LOT more than Thor.

I thought they'd feature Bucky Barnes more, but oh well.
