You know why it's called a "revolution"? Because it always comes full circle. Revolutions, more often than not, end as they began, with different people in power, but the same structure in place. Most of what you would call "change" is gradual, and it is not "the people" who make changes. Change is affected people with power. "The People" can't do anything. If you think what the PATRIOT ACT entails of spying is new significant-pause then you have a lot to learn. Also, one must note that the people of the United States do in fact live under a heavily elite democracy, where those in power are almost bound to have interests that support elite democracy over popular democracy. |

First of all, intentional or not, the title of the thread says: "So, why do Non-believers got to Hell?," which assumes there is a hell. The Bible was written by people, and therefore carry human bias, such as support for prejudice against women, slavery, et al. Regardless if there is a deity, it doesn't mean that the Bible was written through a deity. The Bible isn't a history book, and shouldn't be used as one. It's rather odd that some people will pick out a line that say: "this supports killing/abusing/enslaving/denying rights to [insert disliked group]," when the general gist of the Bible says to be kind and compassionate to all people. Go figure. But to the heaven/hell issue, someone who isn't a Christian but is a "good" person, they already follow the general teachings of the Bible, and therefore in the case that there is a God that the Bible preaches, said person would not go to hell. |

I was under the impression that the writers of the Declaration of Independence were more towards the right to the Pursuit of Property, as property rights are made far more important--but that's not what we are talking about here. One does not have the right to be happy, just the right to pursue it within the limits of laws and regulations, at least in the United States. I don't think that the phrase applies globally, but I can't vouch for that; mainly saying this because of the "Arabic tribe" reference, which I can't really see any relation with religion. About moral relativism, doesn't that essentially mean nothing is wrong, and therefore people cannot be penalized? |
