Overwatch has been added to my rotation. I play Ana, so I can get away with shooting my teammates in the ass.
I've been enjoying the flexibility, being able ot actually contribute damage while also healing. The sleep dart is great for pissing off Reinharts too. |

Picked up Tony Hawk's Underground again, via PCSX2. I forgot how good some of the music was, and now Like the Angel is stuck in my head again...
I did not forget how much of an utter prick Sparrow was. But replaying it now, I feel like I know people like him. |

I muted one on Twitter, but that was before the election.
Now, family is another matter. Thanksgiving is going to be a mental struggle to not beat my uncle with a large blunt object. But then, that tends to be the case even without this particular election. |

I used to hate Thanksgiving.
I still do, but I also did when I was younger. Too many people that I either don't know or dislike crammed into too small a space with too much food, a fair portion of which I also dislike. My uncle is always present, and you know how every family has That Uncle? Yeah, he's that one. My room's about as far from the dining room as possible and I'm still not spared the shouting because of an overly obnoxious family that can't keep it away from my fucking door, despite me telling them twice to fuck off with that shit. Maybe it's better with a less shitty family. |

Set a goal for myself - to finish every main-line Final Fantasy. Probably.
|
So far: Final Fantasy 1 (Mod of Balance version) Final Fantasy 2 (as above) Final Fantasy 3 (PC port of mobile port of PSP port of DS remake) I'm also throwing in some other JRPGs as I go to alleviate the sameyness; as a result, Lufia 2 is next on my list, and I'll probably begin playing on Tuesday. Mass Effect Andromeda is on my wishlist too, but after ME3... I just want it for the co-op really. I'm... not really a fan of the remake of FF3 anymore. It starts strong, but eventually bosses just have a bunch of health and no real threat. Once you get past Garuda, it's pretty much in the bag. There's two threats after that - one is the triple Chimera Mage encounter in the Temple of Time (I think) - if they ambush you, you're dead. But that's not good difficulty, that's just getting fucked by RNG. There's also a one-after-another boss later on - the one before Eureka and Syrcus, don't want to spoil - that actually beat me, but if you don't lose a man in the first fight you're safe in the second. The reason I hold this against the remake is that often the only change it made was adding health, especially for the World of Darkness bosses. (Last edited by Astrophel on 02-13-17 05:05 AM)

Before this run, I'd already beaten 1, 4, 5 (many times), and the Tactics series.
|
The remaining schedule: Lufia 2 FF4 PSP. The DS artstyle just doesn't work as well IMO. Chrono Trigger SNES. I'm emulating these on my TV, so SNES works better than DS, even if I do like the revised translation. (the new content is ass though) FF5 GBA or SNES. Not sure which. Earthbound FF6 Brave New World Legend of Dragoon FF7 New Threat Lunar: Silver Star Story FF8 PC Lunar 2: Eternal Blue FF9 PC FF10 PC FF12 The Zodiac Age (when released) FF13 The After Years is being skipped because of a lot of dumb. It's not worth it regardless of how much better Edward and Edge are in this version. I haven't ruled out 10-2, and will judge the 13 Trilogy when I get to it. I have 13-2 and 13-3 from bundles already so... Depending on how I feel after this, the Tactics series is going ot be added to the end. (Last edited by Astrophel on 02-14-17 02:42 AM)

And there's Lufia 2 done, just shy of 20 hours, no fast forward outside of the credits sequence.
|
Interestingly, the Pearl Armor is actually weaker than the highest store-bought armor. Not that it matters. The final bosses go down pretty easy. I was relieved to not have a marathon dungeon after the Ancients' Maze/Syrcus Tower/World of Darkness in FF3. And I know it'll continue; absurdly long final dungeons are a thing for the Final Fantasy series...

Lufia 2 was interesting. There were only two times that I stopped to do any grinding at all, and that was mostly when I came up short on cash.
|
The difficulty was the puzzles rather than random encounter dickery. Though there *was* some of that with the Assassin/Ninja enemies... Of course, if I went for the Ancient Cave or did the needed grinding to beat Gades at the first encounter it'd take a lot longer. FF3 probably would've taken me longer for the final sequence, but for the real final run (as opposed to the loot-and-leave run), Luneth was a job 99 Thief, Refia was a job 70+ Geomancer, and Ingus was a Dark Knight. Basically everything died within a round. It wasn't until the World of Darkness that enemies started surviving long enough to get one attack off - crits made Luneth hit for over 10k in one shot and I still don't know what Refia's Shadowflares were doing when they showed up. Hell, the Cloud of Darkness barely managed to force me to break out Curaja, and even that was only when Particle Beam started - Curaga was still enough before the All Particle Beam All The Time routine kicked in. FF4 might begin tomorrow after my dentist appointment, or Friday. Haven't figured out exactly when I'll do that - I don't think I can finish it in a week, and Breath of the Wild is coming...

I *had* Ninja, but it would've taken a stupid amount of grinding to beat where I already was with Thief and Geomancer, and Ingus had far superior durability as a Dark Knight. A lot of your power is reliant on your job level.
|
Sages got a pretty severe nerf from the Famicom original - nInja too, to a lesser degree - and I felt that I'd be better off with the extra spells for a Devout for healing. Magic offense in the endgame is a bit weak anyway. Final team was Thief, Devout, Geomancer, Dark Knight. The 3D style they used worked alright for FF3, just not for 4. Different stories call for different styles. The ATB bug won't be an issue for me, according to the FF Wikia. They say it's only in the GBA version specifically, and even if not, I don't actually turn up my battle speed, I leave it at the default and it's apparently higher speeds that cause it. EDIT: Looks like it'll be the GBA version; PPSSPP has issues with the PSP version. European version has several bugfixes though. (Last edited by Astrophel on 02-23-17 06:35 PM)

Breath of the Wild is amazing so far.
|
Also, Pathfinder campaign, involving zombies. A letter was signed Y. Jon chimed in "M, C, A", leading to the following line from me, in song: "Let's raise the dead at the Y M C A!" We're not running the campaign off the rails in gameplay, but we get sidetracked with jokes. Our party is Matias Koskinen, Prinny Alchemist (me); Ilvaria Auvymtor, Drow Inquisitor; Adgus Wyrmblood, Dwarf Magus; Kellin Shan, Half-Elf Warpriest; and Kromdain Rockjaw, Dwarf Fighter. Ilvaria and Matias are most of the party's ranged damage (I throw daggers and/or bricks, Ilvaria uses various crossbows), Kellin and Kromdain are the front-line armed with a planson and a variety of hammers respectively, and Adgus goes where he's needed. In Final Fantasy 4, I've finished the Tower of Babel twice.

Final dungeon in progress in Final Fantasy 4 Advance - most of the big loot acquired.
|
Dark Bahamut would've killed me (again) if it weren't for Edward's amazing damage output. Think about that sentence for a while. Edit: Zeromus down in what has to be the stupidest final boss strategy I've ever used. The problem: Problem: Big Bang ruined peoples' shit. Except Yang (utterly ridiculous bulk) and Rosa (great magic defense). Solution: Only leave those two up and exploit Curaja's increased power when split to two compared to five. I already have played through the Chronicles version. And the J2e translation of the SNES hard type.
|
I just don't like that fight. Everything else has a threat that can be mitigated. Zeromus's Black Hole spam means there are no tactics, it's essentially just a number check. Next up is Chrono Trigger, my... second replay, I believe. Then Final Fantasy 5, re-run number ten or something like that.

I just use a Dualshock 4 as an all-in-one emulation controller. Better dpad than X360, more buttons than SNES. I have enough to fully map any console I emulate and also have a button to spare to bring up the Retroarch menu.
|
Started Chrono Trigger now, have made it through the Heckran Cave so far. Chrono Trigger has more forced encounters than I remembered, and that cave is really bad about it. (restricted) |

Final Fantasy 5 has begun, and I'm up to the Ronka Ruins. This game's being played with the limitation of each character only using jobs from their matching Crystal - Bartz gets Wind, Lenna gets Water, etc. The three extra GBA jobs are being rolled in with the others - Oracle and Gladiator with Earth, Cannoneer with Fire. Earth would only have four otherwise, and Cannoneer is an obvious choice for Faris and also means all four crystals have six - Mime goes to Water, since that's where the crystal came from.
|
Edit 4-25-17: Final Fantasy 5 has finished as of a few days ago. Never actually bothered with Cannoneer or Oracle. (Last edited by Astrophel on 04-25-17 05:12 PM) (restricted) | (restricted) |

It continues - Earthbound now done again. Only actually finished one more game on this list before this year's run, and that's Lunar - which is a fair bit down the line.
|
Next up is Final Fantasy 6: Brave New World, starting in a few days. Also, the Pathfinder campaign has continued. Our DM had us up against something that our party felt we couldn't handle - two words, lich bureaucracy. So we got paid for our initial job and got the fuck out. We're continuing our adventure elsewhere while we build up strength and resources - we just helped a gargoyle paladin take out an oversized warforged named Conquest, to stop him from summoning War. Now we, that gargoyle, and a few of the town guard have been designated Conquest's commanders, by Conquest itself. I remind you that the bulk of our party is morally Neutral. CN Prinny Alchemist (me), TN Half-Elf Warpriest, CN Djinn Kineticist (replaced LN Dwarf Fighter), NG Dwarf Magus, and NG Elf Wizard (replaced LN Drow Inquisitor). So that'll be interesting. Also, due to the way the Djinn's player set things up, he's under contract with the Alchemist, whose backstory trait is History of Heresy and is building for poisons, golemcraft, and oozecraft. We're the heroes! During that fight, one of the six generic NPC guards was the only generic to land a hit, and the only *person* in the entire fight to land a crit. He's now been named Jon Steelfury.
