I mean, just saying, maybe they're more unhappy with how the city has been recovering in the aftermath of Katrina? I mean, for us, sure, it was a bad thing for a few months and then the news stopped talking about it, but there were still thousands of people without homes, it is almost certainly would have taken years for New Orleans to recover from Katrina. Heck, the oil prices STILL haven't recovered since then, having only gotten worse.

Here's what I see happening:

US: Yeah, I know we've been reading all your e-mails, listening to your phone conversations, and watching you without your permission for years, but don't forget, Syria is worse than us!

Oh yeah, I know we tried to cover it up too, breaking the trust of the US, but Syria is worse than us!

And yeah, I know that we targeted political for tax audits (auditing my family two years in a row, taking way too long with it so that my financial aid came out way less than I needed) but Syria is the bad guy!

And yeah, I know we loaded and distributed guns to the gangs all throughout
Mexico, putting them in some pretty dire straights, but Syria is worse than us!

And yes, Syria is worse than us. I don't know enough of the story yet to know if we should go in and help them, but all that I know is that this seems like a big piece of misdirection to me.

Of course, all the government needed for misdirection was a bit of Miley Cyrus going bad and Ben Affleck being the new Batman.

Posted on 09-01-13 11:39 PM, in George Zimmerman is going to sue Florida for $300,000 to pay his legal bills Link
Honestly, the perjury thing isn't cool at all, but other than that, it really isn't that uncommon for someone who is accused and then found innocent to want to have this money. Legal fees, fees for lawyers, etc etc can get very expensive. While Zimmerman's lawyers definitely worked at a reduced rate to help him out, he's still short of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

A lot of people don't realize just how much goes into a trial like this, especially a murder case followed hugely by the news with some racial motivation. Not only was his lawyer and all of that expensive, but this case alone is enough to almost guarantee that nobody who sided against him for this case will ever hire him. He had to leave his job for his safety and he was expelled from school.

Now, I'm going under the assumption that he was innocent. The jury and the court found him innocent, and they are both far better informed on this than any of us who followed it casually on the news.

That established, he, an innocent man, had almost every part of his life destroyed by this. School, work, having to go in hiding, having to pay a ridiculous amount of legal fees, etc. When a person is found innocent, I really see no reason for them not to want to be reimbursed for all of their troubles.

That said, perjury isn't cool. That, I think, could be enough to stop any judge from giving him those $300,000. On top of that, he's also suing NBC who doctored images and recordings in order to make him seem guilty, and really were one of the main reasons why he was brought to trial in the first place. My bet is that he wins the lawsuit aganst NBC, but fails in his lawsuit against the state of Florida.

So I'm just curious, what here is different between this and the war in Iraq?

In both, we had confirmed knowledge of the use of chemical weapons in the past. The difference here is that Iraq would not let UN inspectors in, while Syria is. Also, we knew for sure that it was Saddam Hussein who used chemical weapons in Iraq, in Syria we believe it was Hassad. Evidence is very strong that it was him, but it's still not 100%.

Both nations have very few links to having harmed us, except that there is some amount of evidence of an Iraqi politician being present for the planning of 9/11.

An attack against both nations would mean a lot of diplomatic problems for the US, only for Iraq is was more problems with Iran and some other middle eastern countries. Here it's China and Russia that will be very angry with us.

Both wars will be taking place while America is hurting economically. Only now we'll be doing it with a lot of budget cuts in the military.

Both nations have links to Al Qaeda, only now we'd be fighting on the same side as Al Qaeda.

Now, I understand that we cannot allow the use of Chemical weapons. However, is the solution really to invade them? Furthermore, the way we'd attack will most likely be through the use of missiles and drone strikes, which have a high amount of collateral damage.

And just the final question, why on earth didn't we invade them two years ago when it happened, why are we only just now getting around to it? It seems like invading a country in such a way that we will have a lot of civilian casualties for something that happened two years ago, and aren't even 100% sure was done by the government is pretty odd.

Like I said before though, I honestly think that this is more about the politcs than it is about stopping the use of chemical weapons. If it was about the chemical weapons, we would have invaded two years ago, not now when OBama and the NSA is getting all sorts of backlash about other things.

In Iraq we also had the support of the UK, Canada, Australia, and a few other nations.

EDIT: http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/05/world/meast/syria-strike-allies/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Actually, from the looks of it, it WILL be just us this time. Even England won't help us out.

Well, first off then I think it's a good idea, just from any point of view. I mean, we have about a thousand channels offered on even the cheap cable plans, and I'll maybe watch three. If you don't want to watch one channel, it would be awesome if I could just not need to pay for it.

That said, what should be, and what should be enforced by congress are two very different things. I will absolutely disagree with congress trying to push a business into doing anything, outside of highly unethical or business concerns, that is.

So is it a good idea? Yes. Would I celebrate if it happened? Yes. Should it be made to happen from the government? Heck no.

Well, it really all depends on the rights that the cable company has to show the channel. I'm not sure if it simply has universal rights to show it to whoever it wants, or if it has to pay per channel per person. If the cable company has universal rights to show it to whoever it wants (ie, fixed costs), then yeah, giving customers this plan would really mean absolutely nothing, because the company has the same costs either way, regardless of what channels the viewers subscribe to.

But if the company is paying the studios per viewer (ie, a variable cost) then it could be a great improvement.

Either way though, use congress to enforce it? No.

Alex waited for the others to go first, but they just stayed silent, awkwardly, for what seemed like months!

"Well," he says finally. "I would first like to establish the question of fruits and vegetables, which one is a tomato?" He looks around the large auditorium, "I say that if it is a fruit, it may be put in ice cream, and I never plan to have tomato flavored ice cream. I say that if it is a fruit, it may be put in some types of cereal, but I say that tomato flavored cereal sounds nasty.

"Second," he continues, "I would like to address the topic of bacon! After all, is anything more Xeomerican than bacon? I say no! Some might suggest the blasphemy of altering this bacon to be made out of turkey, but I would say that this some bit of tolerance is blasphemous and must be forgotten immediately, for turkey bacon has almost no grease, which is just an abomination.

Posted on 12-23-13 07:45 PM, in Trying to ask this girl out - hard mode Link
The thing I have to ask is, what are you doing to stand out?

Okay, so you saw her, asked her for help, and then asked her out instead. Maybe not the best move, to be honest. She's got work, and it's a little hard.

My advice? First, go to the cafe. Maybe a couple times. I'd go when there isn't a line. Be in the back of the line. Then when you get there, find some way to talk about something. "Oh hey, don't you work at the pharmacy?" Maybe say something about Christmas or the new year or something, I don't know, the point is to talk. If you don't have at least some conversation, she's frankly not going to be wanting to go out with you.

Then, this is important, you need to be the one to terminate the conversation, don't let her be the one to do it. As you leave to go to your table, just say something like, "hey, you seem pretty cool, how'd you like to get dinner sometime?"

Alternative final lines could be, "Did you just fart? Because I've been blown away by you." or, "You in need of a hairy plumber? Bow chicka bow wow." or otherwise. jk jk.

EDIT: Seriously though, the first part of my post is serious, don't worry about it Xeo, you've got this. Worst case scenario she says no and you go on and find some other girl who is a million times better.

So I'm going to be honest, I think that it's going to take a lot for me to buy either console, especially right now. I mean, it's about five hundred bucks either way you go, and there's just not going to be a large enough library of games to choose from to make it worth it.

I mean, really, on the Xbox 1, I'm pretty sure that the only game I'm really excited about on it right now is Ryse: Son of Rome, and the PS4 doesn't really have anything mind blowing yet either, other than MAYBE Killzone.
