Yeah. I'm in a deep blue funk. Mainly due to the fact that I'm not focusing enough in school, I need to get a job since I'm quickly running out of money (and no one's hiring. Literally. No one), and because of all this, I'm drained emotionally, and get find the ambition to do the things I need to do.
So I'm thinking about seeing a Psychiatrist, and maybe a psychologist as well. But what do you all suggest for helping me through this tough time? I appreciate your help, guys. *sigh* |

So honestly, how do you feel about people not hiring you?
In my standpoint, you should honestly look for internships in your local newspaper. Sure, some internships dont pay (who knows, you may find one who will or something). But even so, once you gain experience, it will look awesome on your resume, and not to mention you will have job experience for the future... Thats why I joined Disney, one of the hardest jobs to maintain because of the most stupid fucking people on the face of the planet. But I gained superb job experience...not to mention mickey mouse dancing all over my resume...Big company's look for what you have previously worked for and look forward to see what you have/ will learn for the future. Right now, Im seriously fucking stuck...Yes I am getting a job in Washington for more than a month (Enough to hopefully get a car ). But the dealerships turn me down and tell me once I get a job and good credit, they can sell me a car...but how can I get a job if I dont have a car? Do you know what im doing? Whatever it takes...Im depressed, like you, in your situation...no job, money is seriously depleating, and no car....so what to do? My parents arent really helping cause they cant...so im doing this all on my own. Im sure you can find a way dude...if theres a will, there will be a damn good way to get your way out of your situation. Just stay cool for awhile and think about what you should do. Maybe the Psychiatrist could possiably hook you up with a nic job somewhere if you are lucky...you just got to have patience. |

Originally posted by Nagis Mmm... Bike? heh. So, clock, you still with your parents right? I don't know what type of city you live in, I don't think. But seriously... McDonald's is better than nothing. ESPECIALLY if you still live at home. Take what you can get, even if it is as degrading as anything you could think of. If you live at home still, you won't have a lot of expenses. That's where I went wrong when I lived at home. I had NO expenses. Everything paid for me. So I went out and blew my money. Video games, new clothes, ebay... consoles, etc. When you live at home, that's something to cheer you up. Sure it may suck having to go by your parents' rules, but you have a LOT going for you. If you live on your own, liek I said, anything is better than nothing. Places like McDonald's aren't looking for lifetime employees. "job" as opposed to "career". A lot of things can get a person down, but you NEED to focus on the positive. A bad mentality will ruin everything. Seriously. A pet that's always there for you, a good video game that helps you wind down at night, your favorite music song playing on the radio station, your friends here, however far, are still friends. All those, no matter how small, is what makes life life. You will have ups and downs, and I pretty much garantee it's going to get worse from here on out, but honestly, dude, it will also get better. Life is short and then you die, so pull your head out of your ass and enjoy it while you can! |

The difference between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist is that the first one can perscribe medicine and the second one cannot. So if you feel you need to see a specialist, just pick one unless you are told to do otherwise.
Seriously though, I would say apply everywhere just in case, even with the city. Working in a park isn't that bad of a job. And even if they are not hiring right now, when they are they look to applications they already have first so you will be more likely to get a call. Just resubmit every 6 months or so to make sure it is current. Internships are also a good idea to try out because that experience can mean everything later on. Cut down on your expenses and focus on your schoolwork. Do well enough and you might win a scholarship or two so that money for college won't become a problem later if you haven't gotten a good paying job yet. There are also contests you can enter to win prizes. Go through Fastweb to find stuff like that. You don't have to use it for school all of the time you know. |

Well LOL I guess everyone gets depressed, and I know your not me.
When I get depressed, I just punch myself in the face a few times and realize why I wake up every morning and work at my TYRANNICAL job for 10 hours a day. Just visualize what it is you want the most and push yourself toward that goal no matter what. |

Originally posted by Nagis Ever thought of getting a used car, anyone? I have a question for you, Nagis. I am curious what exactly this "superb job experience" that you acquired from Disney is. When I think of Disney, I think of Disneyland and Mickey Mouse costumes, so please enlighten me. Although I think that the idea of internship is a good, shouldn't it be in a field relevant to what you want to do in the future? |

Everything is there.
THings like correct conduct, leadership, commitment, guidelines, excellent job experience, former communication in 10 different basis of nationalities, and other experiences. I mean seriously, if you fuck up in DIsney, its on your resume, and Disney is a pretty big company...so when they teach you how to interact with guests/ do your work properly, and you dont do it: Your ass is gone. Think about it And I cant take a bus or ride a bike to work...I live in the boonies for God's sake. XD ( Oh yeah, I got a truck. HA HA ) Edit- Heres a better outline from the site Logos __________________________________________ - Build transferable skills that include relationship building, problem solving, and written and verbal communication Obtaining and embracing these skills will help make participants an asset to any employer they have in the future, and these skills also will be helpful in their personal development. Originally posted by Nagis They have real black people there. O= You won't see very many black people at UCSD, due to some sort of structural inequality. But I seem to be going off on a tangent, so back on the subject. But I can see how job experience can be useful, and if that's what you're going for, good for you. Google has an awesome internship program too, but I want to get at least a bachelors before I even consider that. Although, my friend got a spot in there over the summer. I personally don't have an inclination towards PR stuff, so I personally wouldn't go for a internship at places like Disney. But I don't know about Clockworkz, so whatever works for him is what he should do. One thing I'll say, is repeat what someone has told me: keep your options open. |
