Alarath shook his head at hearing the name of this place. "Wasteland of wailing souls?" he asked. "Even Hell fears this place?" He couldn't resist smiling at it. "You all are so dramatic, it's almost not even funny." he chuckled. "Almost, but not quite."
Alarath looked ahead at the wasteland. "I'll make a wild guess that we'll make it through here without any casulties. I just think that after beating Gigante, it would be so antidramatic for any of us to die. I can't see myself dying because I thought I liked a dessert." |

*Avendia looked at Alarath with a raised eyebrow*
"You've obviously never been to the Badlands before. My people will sometimes venture into the fringes of it to prove their bravery by hunting the beasts that live there... more than a few do not return. Their warnings may be dramatic, but they are no less important." |

"Yes, my initiation did take place here, but it was not recently. We were in a group of thirty Red-Eye candidates, and all we needed to do was simply survive for forty-eight hours. I was one of seven that made it out alive."
Vincent also smiled at Alarath's comment. "Heh, I did not even realize myself how dramatic I was speaking. I'll try to keep expressions of danger as mundane as possible from now on. Don't worry, just until you are killed by them from being foolish and not taking my 'dramatic' advise seriously. Then I shall return to my normal means of conversing." Vincent's suit and top-hat were still upon him. He stood out in the desert, but he was comfortable, heat bothered Vincent little for some reason. Vincent began to walk forward, there was no reason to delay any longer, they were wasting precious time. |

Bria barely spoke up at all during her little expedition with Bo'tk and her new friends. Most of the time, she was simply in a daze, wondering what the hell she got herself into, silently cursing herself, and blessing herself for meeting such great people. She waved Bo'tk off, and turned back to Ken.
"If the Badlands are as treacherous as you're saying, we'd better take Bo'tk's advice..." Alex sniffed the air. Her senses as a thief picked up, and she could see someone off in the distance, his or her body silhouetted by the dust across the badlands. As it moved closer, she prepared herself. "Someone's coming!" She alerted the rest of the gang, and stood ready. Finally, the person came through the dust. It was a woman, around 20, supporting herself on a staff or stick of some sort, obviously very tired, thirsty, hungry, or any combination of the three. "Holy shit! She looks in bad shape!" The strange woman's dry, cracked lips moved under their own influences. "Water... I need... Water..." |

Alarath looked at the woman with dry lips. Why on earth had she gone into this desert without a proper water supply?
He looked at everyone else. "You know, they should put up a sign here. 'WARNING, this is the desert of doom. Certain death lies ahead, and don't forget to bring water. Oh, but if you want to commit suicide, this is the place. See, Hell fears this place, so it lies to heaven to pick up the dead." He looked around. He wasn't holding any water, but he gestured toward the others. "Someone get this woman some water." He wasn't in charge, but he had a feeling no one would mind him giving that little order. |

Ken reacted quickly, pulling out a flask of water and getting it to the woman. His innate danger sense was flaring. It's not just everyday a half-dead woman came walking up to you. He began to look around, and he felt disturbances in the air, like the sensation you get as the tide pulls out right before it slams down and eats you alive.
"We need to get out of here. Now. Vincent, take the front. Alex and Bria, carry this girl. We can't leave her here. Everyone else, listen very closely to me. Begin walking, when I give the command, run. Do not stop. If I stop, keep going." And he was sure at that moment the sounds approaching from behind and all around them were that of an unpleasant friend. As everyone slowly began to walk, he adjusted the order of the group to ensure safety. Vincent in the front, Avendia to the left and Alarath to the right, and the females carrying the straggler in the middle. As they quickly paced through the passage, the sound grew louder and louder. Ken began charging electricity, knowing he would need it. The end of the passage was not for a long distance, though it lay in the horizon. Just as Ken felt it, it began. An incredible wall of creatures began to pour down from their sides and from behind them. If they did not run, they would be surrounded and killed. "RUN, NOW!" The group began to dash madly, running for the passage. The creatures pouring down resembled a mix between crabs the size of dogs, and goblins or sorts. They were not the renowned Kamu tribe, guardians of these lands, these were the slaves and infantry of those people, and they were most all fools saw when entering the lands, before they were swallowed whole by the might of this force. Ken attempted to provide cover for the others by shooting out blasts of lightning as they ran, but even all his electrical powers could not stop these beasts. "AVENDIA, VINCENT, ALARATH, DAMAGE WHAT YOU CAN WHILE STILL MOVING!" Ken turned around and launched a focused orb of electricity which exploded into the wall of a canyon, sending these strange beasts' carcasses flying to and fro. They were in for the run of their lives. |

As the woman let the water lap over her lips, across her tongue and into her body, she felt almost instantly revitalized. However, the wound on her leg was not something that water alone could heal. It was a gash, a pretty big one, that seemed to be made from a tumble down some rocks or something to the extent. Wiping the water from her mouth, she sighed, and handed it back to Ken.
"Oh, I'm alive thanks to you guys!" Bria and Alexis smiled, then the quiet one motioned towards Alexis. "Thank her; she was the one who saw you when you were just a speck on the horizon." The new girl looked at Alexis with a cute smile. "Ahh, I'm alive thanks to you! You really are a life saver!" *Wow, this chick is pretty hot. I'm glad she was the one that decided to save me,* she thought to herself as she studied Alexis' face. At that moment, Ken beckoned to the others to start running, and Alexis took one look at the wound on the woman's leg, and winced. "Here; get on my back. I'm strong enough to handle this." Nodding, the woman climbed on, piggy-backing Alexis, as she bolted off, just as Bria was about to offer help. She, too, followed behind. |

Alarath shook his head and wondered, why oh why didn't they take a gun with them into this desert? He wished that they could just leave that new girl. She was weak, and could easily cost them their lives. He mocked the situation, but that didn't mean he didn't know how serious it was.
He shook his head, grabbed two large handfulls of snad, and began running. The sand would be in invaluable resource, as he could just heat it up in his hand, and throw it at the creatures as they passed by. He watched as Vincent took the front, held the sand carefully, and charged. This would be interesting. |

Vincent began running, he was faster than the others, noticeably so. He kept a little ahead of the group and when the creatures poured down upon him, he struck out violently. With a motion of his hand, his cane was resting in it. He flicked a small switch and a trigger revealed itself. He took aim at one of the creatures, and a gunshot was set forth. The bullet set forth with hot metal through the brain of the attacking beast. Killing it instantly. From Vincent's pockets a shower of small pellet-like objects flew towards the cliffs on either side. When making contact with a hard object, causing a nasty explosion and blowing bits of enemies all over the field.
"They can only keep this up for a little bit of time! We must take down as many as possible." Vincent clenched his left hand into a fist and a sudden spark ignited. A large blade, sensitive to the electromagnetic pulse caused by his Instinct drive, was now solid and with a swipe of his arm he managed to defeat an oncoming Kuma attack dog. |

*Avendia looked around at the fight, her blood burning for combat... but she knew she had to do something first or they would be overwhealmed. Her only weapon at the moment was her knife, and she did not want to let them get that close. She glanced down at the stick that Bo'tk's had given her. She looked at the ground as she ran, then at the army closing in on them. Reaching out to the ground, she searched for its spirit*
"Help us, earth spirit. Rise up and shield us, open up and swallow them. I will make offerings to you if you do this." *To Avendia's surprise, the earth began to quake around them, yet did not touch them. Fissures opened up in the ground beneath the swarm of enemies and then closed again, swallowing up to fifteen of them at a time. Earth reared up to form walls that trapped them inside. Not all were taken down, but a good piece of the enemy was no longer a threat.* "That should by us some time, but we have to move!" *Trying a gift she learned long ago, she called out to the spirits to grant everyone the Gift of the Windrunner, and suddenly everyone began moving twice as fast as they had before* |

Ken cursed, sweat pouring down his face. The passage seemed to stretch on forever, as though each fleeting second spent running got him no closer to freedom. There were millions of these damn creatures. They kept pouring from the cliffs and with each attack the group made, more filled the gap. Ken, purposely lagging in the back to protect the others, had been forced to punch and kick several of these things already. He looked past the group and saw a figure, clad in a heavy armor, approaching. He seemed to be passing through what appeared to be incredibly hot air, bending and wavy. The armor-clad warrior carried in his hand a golden spear and a large, thick shield made of stone. He ran up, calling out in a bold, commanding voice.
"Friends, turn and fight! Show no fear, show no weakness!" He dashed past Vincent, the others, and joined Ken in the back. He flung his spear out and skewered five of the beasts. He fought like a demon, pushing back the seemingly endless wave of beasts. Ken, impressed and thankful for this man's colossal assistance, took his words well. "Come, friends! You heard the man! Fight for your lives!" He charged his body with electricity and moved incredibly fast, blowing the creatures back with his power. The fighting seemed to continue for hours, though it were only minutes. Ken's blood was screaming as he dashed through the ranks, swinging his fists with inhuman strength and speed. He saw the rest of the group fighting back as well, and with a passion only the threat of death could muster, the creatures grew afraid of the group and scattered, leaving nothing but their dead and remains behind. Ken, attempting to catch his breath, sat against a cliff side, stained lightly with black blood. He looked over at the armor clad man, who seemed unfatigued by the fighting. "Well, it seems we owe your our lives. Your combat knowledge saved us." The armor clad man looked over, giving a thumbs up. "No thanks needed, mate. The name's Xanath. I make my living helping people cross the Badlands alive. It's what I do." Ken rose, shaking the man's hand. "It is indeed fate's will we met, then. Is there any chance we can enlist your help? We have a straggler here we met coming down the same way as you." To that, the man scratched the back of his helmet, looking at her. "That's odd I didn't see her before I entered the passage. But yes, that is fine. I'll see you through your way through here." Xanath turned to the end of the passage, motioning for the rest of the group. "Come, let us leave now, lest the beasts come back in greater number." |

Alexis stopped, seeing that the battle was over for the time being, and she turned to teh woman on her back. "Can you stand?" She nodded, and Alexis let her stand on her own two feet. "I think it's time for some answers, stranger."
Bria nodded, understanding the situation. "Yes; who are you, and why were you out in this god-forsaken place?" The woman scratched the back of her head, and smiled a little. "The name's Reika. I'm an archaeologist, and I was sent out here, 'cause I thought there might be some artifacts out in this desert. Unfortunately, I ran out of bullets in my gun, and was attacked, but someone... That guy! HE'S the guy who saved me!" She pointed over to Xanath, the one who helped the group just now. "I thought I could make it out alright, but I underestimated the vastness of this place, and got lost. I was traveling for a day or so without water or food. I'm starving, but thanks to you guys, I think I'll be ok! Alexis had a look of informational satisfaction on her face after hearing Reika's confession, and understood, as did Bria. "Whaddaya say, Ken? She ran into all of us; we can't just leave her here, but if we take her, she'll be in danger of Red Eye. Should she join us as well on our little quest?" asked Alexis, kinda hopeful. She thought Reika was pretty cute, after all. (Last edited by Clockworkz on 04-03-07 03:07 AM) |

ooc--Cai, hope you don't mind but I'd like to control Xanath, seeing as how I created him and all.
Xanath turned towards the young girl, it's true that he saved her. But it seems he also sentenced her to a larger hell. He nodded at the woman. "I did what I could, but having no water to spare I could not do any more. I apologize." Vincent smiled warmly, this man, clad in magnificent white armor, covering his whole body from head to toe, with a long drawn silver cape dragging behind him and wrapped tightly around his neck, had saved their lives. He appeared to be completely covered, leaving very little breathing room, his helmet had only three vertical slits for air holes and two openings for his eyes, revealing a shimmering silver eye color. Vincent pondered on those whom held a silvery eye color, and the only race he knew of was Solaris, though silver was a rare eye color in any case. This man is a warrior from times past, and would have great wisdom to share at some point, but now was a time for traveling. "Thank you sir, I am glad you gave us the bravery to fight them. I fear we would have been lost when we reached the barren flatlands. Those cliffs, however badly they boxed us in, protected us from many more foes." Upon bowing low to the ground, Vincent, rose once more. "We are indebted to you, Sir Xanath." Vincent began to attempt a lead once more, but Xanath clearly knew where he was going better than they did, s he allowed the newcomer to take the lead in the terrible trek through the Badlands. |

"Reika, was it? Sure, you can come. No worries, you'll be safe with us."
As the group walked, Ken felt his forearm ache. He looked to see a small marking, like a bite mark. One of those damn beasts must have bit him or something, but he was sure they had no poison in them. He felt a little weird, but he shrugged it off as a psychological aftereffect of looking at the bite wound. He looked out to the path, wondering what was ahead of the group, completly oblivious of the pale and sickly form watching the groups from the shadows, counting down the moments till their demise... After an hour of walking, Ken looked around. "Where the fuck are we? I feel like we're lost." Xanath scanned the area, sighing. "Surprisingly, this area seems unfamiliar to me. I see a landmark in the horizon, but I know it to be one of a warning mark of Kamu territory. We would either be walking out of or further into Kamu territory, meaning we are in certain danger." |

Alarath shook his head. "There's that warning sign about the desert I mentioned. It's a bit farther in than I would have put it."
He looked at Xanath. "I have a few questions," he said. "First off, how could a knight in shining armor, who devoted his life to saving people from a bunch of evil monsters get us lost in his own desert? Second, we're clearly going into their territory, I think that you'd hve noticed a similiar sign for us walking in." He raised an eyebrow, "And why do they bother to mrk their territory? They send their monter armies out of it to fight us, so clearly they have a problem with us, regardless of if we're past that boundary." He shook his head again. He should have stayed in the city as a doctor, at least treating diseases made some kind of sense. |

Xanath grew angry at this doctor's insolence. Most city-dwellers acted like this, with an air of false superiority that sickened him to his gut.
"Listen, my job is to guide people through these lands. I have far from explored every inch. Also, the desert plays tricks on the mind that makes navigating it difficult. There was a sandstorm the other day, so my usual route is hidden. Also, the Kamu rarely leave past their boundaries, unless of religious or military purposes. That tall pillar of stone marks the borders around their city. Besides that, this area has no other visible landmarks I can use to discover our direction. That, city-dweller, is why we are lost. If you act with such disrespect towards me again, do not think for a moment I will not leave you to die in the sands." Ken walked over. "Relax, Xanath. This man, along with all of us, has undergone a lot of stress for the past two days, enough to make most snap. I am sure sleep deprivation gives his tongue the bitter edge it carries now, and not true ill will." |

Xanath calmed down almost instantly. His eyes shifted to a location in the distance, someplace his thoughts have recently dwelled upon. He began to move forward. The city-dwellers angered him. He disliked their attitudes. He liked the way he was raised. A small familiar type town. Everyone knew everyone, there was no foolish pride, or unneccessary fear of others from their own kind. Only outsiders caused enough chaos to harm them. Vincent smiled kindly. Ken's words of kindness did well. Ken was very supportive, and held a passion unreachable by Vincent. Pushing them onward Vincent insisted that they continued.
"Please, the light is dropping, and soon the cold will be set upon us, and we may have to camp here." Xanath shuddered under his heavy armor, he was used to the feel of the armor atop his flesh, he stared intensly at Vincent. "We shouldn't camp, those creatures tend to come back on the sleeping." "I believe you are right, but there is a clear problem, if we do not get rest we are sure to die from lack of sleep on the next days march. I'm sorry to say this, but if we do not find our way out of here in a few hours, a camp must be made." |

ooc-- I'm sorry Elara, you just got the bad luck of being the post before the end of the battle. We didn't mean to ignore you, it just didn't seem relevant to dwell on the battle after the battle was over.
