This was posted in a Celtic festival newsletter e-mail. For anyone who doesn't get it, for hundreds of years the two have despised each other although they tolerate each other as best they can. Ale helps, I'm sure.
I don't know how true this thing is, but it's still funny. "This is the transcript of the ACTUAL radio conversation between the British and the Irish, off the coast of Kerry, Oct 98. Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10-10-98: IRISH: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South, to avoid a collision. BRITISH: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North, to avoid a collision. IRISH: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision. BRITISH: This is the Captain of a British navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course. IRISH: Negative. I say again, You will have to divert YOUR course. BRITISH: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER HMS BRITIANNIA! THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE BRITISH ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, I SAY AGAIN, THAT IS 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP. IRISH: We are a lighthouse. Your call." |

This is awesome. I loved seeing this when it first came out
AND on that note: Look at this Only this is with an american ship. And by looking at the bottom text, I believe it's a bit of russian propoganda/making fun of us Either way, it's hilarious (Last edited by Truth/Serum on 04-17-07 12:45 AM) |

HA! Well, there's always a joke you haven't heard that everyone else has.
Here's another old one: An Irishman, an Englishman and a Scotsman go into a pub. Each orders a pint of Guinness. Just as the bartender hands them over, three flies buzz down and land-- one, two, three-- in each of the pints. The Englishman looks disgusted, pushes his pint away and demands another... the Scotsman picks out the fly, shrugs, and takes a long swallow. The Irishman reaches in to the glass, grabs the fly between his fingers and shakes him as hard as he can, shouting 'Spit it out, ya bloody bastard! Spit it out!' |

Heheh, Yeah, I've heard that one too
Only we have our own variation. An air force guy, Marine, and a Sailor And out of some of the buddies I've got here, I can certainly tell you there's some who act like that O_o |

Those two were awesome. It sounded more like the english wanted a fight though, and were feeling annoyed at the irish.
On the other hand, the irish seemed more laid back, and simply loving their lighthouse. They were awesome. |

I think I preferred the drinking one to the boat one, but still. Gotta love the Irish. |
