I looked back quite a ways, and it seems we don't have a thread for this absolutely amazing game/series.

I know Xeo got hooked to it the same time I did, so I thought it might foster some fun chat. So, all, what do you think of Kratos? Zeus and the Gang? Or the games themselves?

All of my friends hyped up the second one quite a bit, that just recently released not too long ago. One day I went over to one of my friends house to watch him play it, and ended watching him play for several hours. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and its not everyday I enjoy watching others play videogames for so long, but it was amazing.

I liked what I saw so much I went out and bought the first one, started playing it and loved it and bought the 2nd even before I beat the first. I blasted through both of them and beat them both in about a week and a half or so. Never has destroying things felt so satisfying.

Overall I'm not sure which one I liked more. I can agree with one of my friends in saying the first has better music, and the Temple of Pandora was amazing, and it had possibly more of an ending, but the 2nd took a lot of stuff from the first and just improved on many things and added a few new gameplay elements, and was way more epic (a lot more bosses). Both were pretty short, took me about 8 hours for the first and 10 for the second, but playing them both in a row like that was a blast.

As for the third entry (we all know its coming), all I'm going to say is the title "God of War" will ultimately be defined for sure.

Blades of Chaos / Althena's Blades = Ultimate and greatest weapon ever? Probably.

Well, I'm getting the second one soon. I've played up to the part with the Ice Titan, and I was like ":O This does NOT slow down, huh?"

The first one was great, I loved it. You're right about the gratifying thing. When you stab your Blades of Chaos into a minotaurs mouth, those health are the most wonderful gift of all.

Back in the day I used to hate God of War, simply because I was so pro-Ninja Gaiden. I don't know why I neglected to play God of War for so long, but boy was I wrong.

Though in the end there are a few things I do like about Ninja Gaiden that God of War could have used.
- Countering. I don't think I need to explain this one?
- More enemies. Yes, as much fighting as the God of War games had, I do remember Ninja Gaiden having a lot more of those moments where you were fighting 50-100 enemies, the challenges, and everything. Maybe I should just go back and play on a harder difficulty, but I found myself often craving for even more violence and destruction.

In the end, both the God of War series and Ninja Gaiden are probably the best action games in the newer generation.

Yeah, now that I think about it.

I always wished there was countering, and I thought taking the Blades of Chaos to like a giant group of easily killable enemies would have been unbelievably awesome.

I need to buy myself an Xbox. I want to get Ninja Gaiden, Phantom Dust, and Fable and stuff. I missed out, I know it.

I suspect that I am the only person on this board who has not yet played God of War.

Honestly, it's type of game doesn't appeal to me. I don't like having people ripped apart with blood flowing everywhere. Also, I've only enjoyed a couple sword fighting games, like Jedi Academy.

Seriously, I've had the "Kratos Fan" banner since I discovered I could ask Nagis to make it for me. So

I got really into the game a couple years ago and have obsessed over it since. I did start a few threads some time ago, but I guess they've disappeared.

I unlocked the secret costumes, even. Favorite being the Dairy Bastard.

You know ive gotten better at making userbars you know...

Oh yeah, I saw a little bit of this game in action. It amazed me on the fact that its kinda like an RPG.

I remember saying "NIGGA I WILL ZEUS YOUR ASS"! Alot when I played this in public. I got tons of people laughing at me.

I forgot what that big sword was called, and what does the Armor of hades do?

The Sword of Artemis.

The Army of Hades pretty much fight any enemies in your vicinity. Can come in real handy when you're in the conveyor belt room with all the harpies among other places (not to spoil the game if you haven't played).

I remember while I was playing the game the first time in the battle near the end, I kept screaming, "Hug your family, Kratos! Hug 'em, damn it!!" He looks so friggin' sweet when he hugs them too, just before he gets back to the ass kicking.

I so agree, Rogue.

Army of Hades was my best buddy after I got it, especially on the gay conveyor belt part.

And I thought it was odd that these bulking images of Kratos could be wrecked with a single throw, but it took them 2 minutes to kill the real Kratos' wife and daughter.

His hugs must like, give people magic powers.

Seriously, man, you need to play it.

It's incredibly worth your time. You'll blow through it because you'll demand it of yourself.

Another problem is the character. Yeah, he's some super powered guy, but he's also suicidal, and murderous.

Who would like to paly as a guy like that?

When you're actually playing it, Vulkar, you'll understand.

Even if he does have anger and self-interest issues, he's a great, great character.

In all honesty Vulkar, I think Ninja Gaiden comes off as a bit more violent sometimes ... as brutal as God of War is, the blood is hardly noticeable (or maybe I've just played too many games), while in Ninja Gaiden its squirting all over. And although you're ripping limbs off and stabbing enemies faces, some of them look goofy, they're monsters, and hardly that realistic.

As for Kratos, I'm not going to lie, he's ignorant and pretty much like Vegeta. He's not the most lovable character, and I don't even really like his "character", but it can't hurt to play as a total self-centered badass who knows how to kill. Its the gameplay the got me hooked, not really the storyline or anything. And well the cool Greek Mythology is a bonus. Boobs lol

Cairoi, you really REALLY need to play God of War II, like right now. I'll just simply say, Zeus plays a huge role, and well the game is drastically more "epic" than the first. And the detail and graphics are up to par with Shadow of the Collosus. Its quite possibly the best looking PS2 game out there.

I've played the beginning, and yeah, Zeus is a crapheead.

I got to the part after you fly on the Pegasus.

My buddy's going to let me borrow it soon, so then I'll really get it done and beaten.

Loved it when you fight that mini-boss in the air while on Pegasus and there's that motion blur. So amazing.

Is it me, or are the action command things like one of the best parts of the game?

They like, take the cake of the violence for me.

While helping my boyfriend's brother go through Shadow of the Colossus, he kept remarking on how pansy the hero is. I mentioned that I completely agreed with him (Wanderer really is a pansy) as it doesn't take much to make the character fall over and when he's hit, he blacks out and won't move for a while.

While Kratos isn't very realistic, I'd LOVE to go through SotC with him. Hell, I'd absolutely cream myself if you could use him to play the early GTAs, especially with how fragile the main characters were.

I adore Kratos. Though he isn't the smartest VG hero or the strongest, he has a lot of heart. A warrior might kill recklessly, but it's his love for his family and his regret that gives him personality. Hell, if they wanted to make him an all out killing machine with nothing else to him, he'd be wearing full armor and a helmet with nothing of his face showing.

As I played through the first level of GoW 2 at a convention last month, I damn near teared up with how proud I was of his moves and what they had him do.

While God of War probably isn't the greatest game, I'll always love it.

TOTALLY RIPPED OFF RE4!!!

Haha, but not really ... surely its been in a few other games though.

You know on one hand I love that aspect, but it tends to get a little predictable. Not the combos, just the "fact you know it'll happen" especially during bosses. Its epic, fancy, and awesome, but on the other hand I sometimes would just rather continue fighting new stages of a boss or something.

But seriously, I'm not complaining.

Also, in my opinion God of War magic > God of War II magic.
