Random thing. I just looked at a band member list of Avantasia (who has been part of it). Now that is quite the super band. God damn. So many people from known bands.

That's why I have so much respect for Tobias Sammet.

He got so many cool people together.

So, Xeogaming, since this IS the metal thread...
WHat genres of metal do ya'll listen to?
Personally, I like Dark Ambient (Mortiis, Nest), Power Metal (Rhpsody, Dragonforce), and Black Metal (Dimmu Borgir, Graveland, Gorgoroth).

So, share your stuff, guys! What's YOUR favorite genre?

Generally I'm more of an old schooler, my favorite genre would probably be obscure 80's power/speed metal. And there's basically two meanings to power metal, old 80's US power metal is absolutely nothing like the majority of power metal out there today.

Classic speed/power (Agent Steel, Liege Lord, Helstar, Jag Panzer, Omen, etc)
Thrash (Heathen, Realm, Artillery, Laaz Rockit, Coroner, Whiplash, Tankard, etc)
Traditional/NWOBHM (Running Wild, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Cloven Hoof, etc)

Above all, speed and melodic thrash are among my favorites. There's melodic thrash like Heathen and then brutal thrash like Kreator, which I'm still not really a fan of.

I've tried to get into death metal more than a few times, but I just don't think I'll ever be a fan of that genre. However, I recently discovered a band I actually like, "Death" the band itself. They're way more melodic and not as grindlike as most death metal. But I kind of have to be in the mood for it.

I don't know, its really hard to discuss this now. My tastes have changed and looking back through this thread for me is sometimes funny. Some bands like Rhapsody, Edguy, and whatnot that got me into metal, I'm really not much of a fan of anymore. 100 CD's later and 50 gigs, I'm just a heavy metal maniac I guess.

Yo. Slayer. Anyone?

RAINING BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
FROM A LACERATED SKY!!

anyone? C'mon. pretty please? =(

I just got into Slayer. They are pretty damn awesome. My favorite song is Bloodline. It's a shame Araya is getting really old. Damn me for liking these bands when they're too old.

I've never been too big on Slayer, but they're not bad.

Anthrax ... another well known old thrash band, I'm not big on them at all, but their debut is pretty damn awesome. Not overly commercialized like just about every thing they released after it ... "It's a Mad House! Dun dun nuuuu nuuu nu" blah.

Anthrax - Deathrider. Now that's fun! Though it almost sounds too much like Exciter.

Random note, if you like Slayer you might like Coroner perhaps?

I also recently got into one death metal band, called *drumroll* Death. Even if you absolutely HATE death metal you need to listen to Voice of the Soul!!! Easily one of the coolest instrumentals I've ever heard.

My collection still grows each and everyday. Been getting into some extremely obscure speed metal bands lately (older ones, as I'm sure most of you know by now I'm a huge old schooler!)

Messiah Force - The Sequel
Great female vocals too! Can't tell what language she's singing in though, but oh well!?

And this band is just downright insane:

Have you checked out Apocalyptica at all? Pretty amazing band, and they do some really nice covers of Metallica songs.

Yeah, I've heard of them (because I downloaded some Sonata Arctica and people mislabeled Zonata songs as Sonata.)

Cool band.

Thor (The Thundergod) or something like that anyway is pretty awesome of a song.

Some of Sonata's songs are pretty epic, the videos kinda drive me insane though, like this one.

I keep hearing words that should not be in this song. Like "Whore" and other things, plus I cant understand them. Nothing like the other songs.

So seriously, dont say a Word on that song Sonata, cause I cant understand you.
