Ok, some of you may or may not know that I fancy myself a bit of a writer.
I'm trying to at least. I have run into a major snag with the fantasy series that I
am working on however.

Geography.

I know, weird thing to get hung up on but it's true. I've got a general idea of what
I want but the problem is placement of mountains, forests, swamps, towns, cities,
villages, hamlets and so on and so forth. The way I've currently got things set up the massive war that I want to have happen would be impossible, the geography
makes it so that neither side could sucessfully fight, much less win this war.

What I need is a mag generator. I've seen name generators and all kinds of other
things and have used some of them but I need a good map that I can use for my
book and fill in towns and such myself as I go, best way to do it I think but I haven't
been able to find anything.

Anybody got any ideas or anything that could help?

Possible site

I just did it myself for Marocia. Perhaps study some real geography, like terrain in an area like the one you are writing about (Germany or something you know) and use it to give you vague ideas of what you want it to look like.

Yeah, I've been having a similar problem with the Yeresian map. The hardest part is making it look like it occurs naturally. The way I did it was to just figure out the general regions you want, then shape them around that.

Suprisingly, the best solution I can offer you is a RTS map editor. I find them a little fun to work with.

I think the best way to do it is to go completely from scratch. Right out where everything is inspecualtion from each other like, "this area" is so many miles east of "this area." Just keep going in sequence with your books and then draw it. Yeah it will take a lot of tweaking, and a while to get right, but that's the best way to get it absolutely perfect.

PS: Your totally awesome girlfriend isn't half bad at drawing.

I just use MSPaint for my story.

Actually though, I know where everything is, so I rarely have to use anything.

What about the sims game where you can create cities and towns? It may not do much for the terrain, but maybe with the populated areas in your story. Just an idea.
