And that death will be long and horrible!!

I've never cared for math, but it has never been extremely hard for me. Only once in middle school did I get bad grades and shit...but then again, I fucked around alot in that class (so sue me). But highschool, math and I had this understanding...really...and I pretty much got it all (the formulas and stuff)

Well..now I'm back in that god damn rut of WTF!!! Did I mention I dont care for math, so when the going gets tough, my mind literally takes a vacation?!

Presently, I am in Calculus...2nd semester. Which, I'd like to point out if the first mistake here. WHY the hell do they divide a class like this up between two semesters? Not only is it all sort of, I dont know, connected, but SHIT summer is a long time!!! Grrrrrr...

Then, to add to my dilemma, they think giving you a WHOLE NEW teacher helps! (I'd just like to say, it doesnt!)

So, its only the second week of class....new teacher (Who by the why is quite funny) new material... AND I'm expected suddenly to know shit from a chapter my last teacher DIDNT EVEN COVER!!! And it doesnt help, I CANNOT for the life of me figure out math from books...they dont do me shit as far as learning something.
Yeah...I guess my class just 'never got there' but we are expected to know what was taught in that chapter to be able to do this semesters shit.

I DONT THINK SO!!!

So, naturally, Im FREAKING out....I want to leave the room while he is trying to teach this new shit and just hang myself.... It doesnt help, Im the kind of person to stress 5 times more then I need to!!!

Now, I know logically, I can go to his office hours...I can ask class mates for help, yada yada yada...But I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed!!

Then in class today, he adds this little statistic,
"Only about .5% of people pass a calculus class in their education" WTF! Thanks for the support!! My god, I wanted to die right there. This god damn class is towards my major, I better pass and on the first try too...I ain't taking this shit over!!

*trying to breath*

(I'd like to side step and just say, very breifly, Who the hell decicded what classes you need towards a certain major? Im a bio major...tell me why I need loads of chem and calculus..please...so I feel a bit better about killing myself here!!)

Hm, wish I could say I feel better....I really do...I didn't mean to rant on so much, but come on!!! Am I wrong here to freak out?

So, there is my ranting rave of freaking out!

(note to my friends: no suicide is really going to be taking place....however, homicide of my math book may happen in near future)

The only thing I can say is that a home tutor might work for you if you can get one. They really do help. I had to take calculus a year or so ago and all I can say is that if they didn't have free tutoring centers at the school I would've flunked definitely lol.

I was always good with math, until I hit calculus to. I swear that is a subject from hell (I think the guy who came up with the idea was satan's twin brother), and I dropped the class after one semester, the first one I passed with a 60% even. I got the exact score I needed on the final to not fail. I also fail to see how calculus would help as a bio major, I can understand statistics, but fucking Calculus?!

Also, Ranting is good for the mind, body, and soul. It helps focus your frustration, relieve stress, and will help you live longer.

If it makes you guys feel better, I'm doing terrible in my College Algebra class.

I annihilated Intermediate easily, did everything without even having to think. Then College Algebra comes around, with this terrible ThompsonNow online homework bullshit and a teacher who doesn't make any sense at all. I try looking at my notes copied from hers and they make NO sense!

For our first test, the class average was a 58%.

I guess it happened, finally a math class defeated me (ie: I'm probably dropping it). But, I'm mainly blaming the teacher and this stupid online stuff I had no idea about.

Knocking me down to 7 credit hours.

I'll probably be at this two year Community College for three years. Oh yay.

I've had problems with calculus as well. I flunked the high school class and AP test. But then I took it at the university and aced both semesters. :O

Calculus textbooks aren't known for their clarity or prose though, so if you are interested in math but don't like calculus, look around with books. Michael Spivak wrote a very good book, Calculus, with lots of foundations, and he'll explain how one does everything instead of just using examples. And the book's pretty cheap.

I used to be a bio major until I attempted calculus. The only use for it in the major that I can see is if you are doing major research in a lab or the field... I had to have a physics teacher help explain it all to me... so now I am a history major.

But I think you can do it Beloved, just get a little help book and possibly seek out a tutor or something like that and you will be just fine.
