Article: http://www.collider.com/entertainment/interviews/article.asp/aid/8326/tcid/1
Apparently the producers of 300 want to talk Frank Miller into writing a prequel to the Spartan epic. You gotta love how bad the interview is in the article. Interviewer: "How hard is it to get Frank Miller right now, with the fact that he's, you know, doing Spirit and all this other stuff?" Producers: [Long, awkward silence.] ... "He created 300." You can just imagine their little producer minds exploded as their little inner monologues thought to themselves, "What the fuck is Spirit?!" |

Sadly, I see nothing good in this idea...at all.
Granted, I thought that 300 was a fairly entertaining, though quite shallow and rushed at the end, but it's really not the sort of thing that needs a sequel. The movie went in, told a story, told all it needed to about the characters, and then ended. It would take a ton of work to get a good story out of this. I can already guess at what the sequel will be. It'll probably have all of the style and killing, but then forget the story which actually made 300 somewhat good. Sure, it might be worth watching, but it won't come anywhere close to as good as 300. |

Am I the only one who didn't like the original?
Anyone? |

Heh, I didn't love it if that counts. I thought the ending was badly done(seriously, they're these super soldiers, killing huge legions, and they die in like, two seconds.)
Also, I think the other action sequences could ahve been done better, Leonidas was too strong, and never seemed to feel the impact of his enemy's blows. Not really all that cool. |

I really enjoyed the first, I mean it wasn't utterly mindblowing but I thought it was a great experience at the theaters. As for this idea ... egh, I don't think I can support it right now. It just seems a little redundant.

OK, personally, I really liked 300. It was enjoyable and got the blood pumping for several reasons.
Now, should there be a sequel? No. It'd be like what happened with Highlander and The Matrix, and even Pirates of the Caribbean. The original wasn't bad, but then someone got greedy and wanted to bank more on cult following of those films. Granted there was a lot about 300 that wasn't told -- like why the Persians were trying to war with the Spartans in the first place (which I think was something to do Xerxes' father being defeated or something of the like) -- but in the end it would only take away from the original. |

Originally posted by Rogue Well, actually those movies were based on a trilogy of books that were based on the ride. Doesn't change the fact that they sucked, just though I'd point that out. |

FX, nope, you're wrong. There are books that are spun off the movies, but the movies aren't based on books.
Originally posted by "The holy text of wikipedia" Ta daaaa. Also, I think it's funny that everyone says the movies sucked NOW, but when they came out everyone was shitting themselves. I still think they're good. |

Originally posted by FX It was an "Epic" movie, but I recall saying it was too repetitive, and I also lost interest in it. Plus I cheated and looked at the old thread. |

Pirates of the Carribean was epic...?

FX, no matter how much you hated Pirates of the Carribean, you have to admit that the battle on top of the wheel, or the ship fight inside the whirlpool was epic.
Personally, I liked Pirates of the Carribean 2-3, decent story, good fights, and the only thing I didn't like was Will Turner. Anyway, BACK ON SUBJECT: I think that the only way for them to do a good 300 sequel would to do one about the Battle of Marathon, even though that was about fifty years earlier. Awesome story, but I'm not sure how it would fit in... Or, they could abandon the Spartans and talk about how the Persians were defeated by Athenian ships in the water...that could be pretty cool. |

To clear up the confusion, FX was talking about the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels when he said he always thought they sucked. Not 300.
Now while I absolutely thought Dead Man's Chest was horrible through and through, I still have yet to see At World's End from beginning to end. I've seen 20 minutes here or there, but haven't watched it build in plot. Now as for 300 possibly having a prequel, there are a lot of things to tell actually, and hell there was the Athenian navy that no one talks about. In the end, though, it would probably still come off like a desperate grab for box office money. |
