H'okay, so we might as well make a thread about it.

What are the prices like in your area compared to what they were at not long ago?

At the moment our average gas price is around $4.50. Six months ago, the average was between $3.50 and $3.75.

While Arco and some of the cheaper brands sell for about $4.39, Chevron and others sell in the area of $4.65.

Going into L.A. this weekend, I'd seen a few stations trying to unload it for $4.90 and into the early $5's.

I'm hearing around that some southern Californians are driving down into Mexico for their gas because it's $3.10 in Tijuana. Problem is it's a different fuel mixture, having too much sulfur for American cars. In the end, it would destroy your cars emission control system.

Here in Palm Desert gas prices range from $4.50- $4.70 for regular, and gets up to $4.85+ for premium.. and diesel (because my husband and I have a diesel truck) is between $5.00 and $5.20. It's way too much. *sigh* I go no where I don't have to, and my little car gets awesome mileage. 22 city and 36 highway.... but still. I are broke.

That's all just sad ... it's constantly around $4.00 here, which I can't stand but it's obviously worse in other places like where you guys are. It takes about ~$50 for me to fill up now.

It's floating around $4 around here, I would be irritated, but I don't have to drive, and everything I need to go to(grocery stores, game stores, restaurants, work, pretty much everything) is literally across the street from where I live. I can see most of them from my house.

Where I live it's about £1.20 per litre, I've seen it as high as £1.40 and as low as £1.05 though. Also if you spend £50 in my local Tesco store, they give you 5p per litre off.

Quick estimate is about $10.50 per gallon.

However the show Top Gear was saying how cheap it actually is. If you think about the trouble gone through to get the stuff, floating a huge oil rig out to sea, dig holes until you find oil, ship it off to a refinery the size of a small county, then transport it to tanks to serve to the public for just over a pound a litre is cheap. Especially considering mineral water can cost more than that in some places (One example was a place one of the presenters went to, and they were selling mineral water for £4.99 a litre).

EDIT: There's also the fact the government take a lot of that money (about two thirds of it here), so these oil companies are actually doing it for about 40p per litre (About 75 cents roughly...? $3.50 a gallon?)

Only recently, then that's the way it's sort of become now. The government recently enacted a tax on the oil companies, which is what started the gas price explosion, it was around $2.00-$2.50 a gallon around where I am before that, even after Hurricane Katrina.

On a side note, how many people still think that the war in Iraq was for oil?

Gas prices here are around 4. It's ridiculous.

Oh, and Vulkar? Oil companies are making a higher profit on oil today than they ever have.

Gas prices in Northern CA are pretty much the same as what they are in Southern. They are about $4.50 on average, they dropped a whole three cents recently though !

I'm not driving at this point so it isn't really bothering me personally. I plan on buying a scooter, which will probably be electric anyway, so I don't think I have to worry, yet.

it's roughly 145.38 per litre up here in British Columbia (converts, hoping he remembered the formula) about 3.20 a gallon? Still, I like how the government planned a 5 cent increase in our gas prices on Canada day... XD

edit(why not?): Not a problem for me, since I walk everywhere, and if I had too could take my bike.

It was $4.01 here a few days ago, but that only lasted a day and has since dropped a whopping 4 cents to $3.97 as of yesterday. The economy is very fragile right now -- I'm curious to see what's going to happen Monday when the markets open. As of right now stocks are down almost 200 points and oil is up to 144.84.

It finally seems like it's ebbing a little. About 5 or 10 cents off the average.

Awwright. Giggity giggity.

Well at least it's not been cooler than the last few summers. Yeah, not much consolation.
