I'm not the most adept person when it comes to putting computers together, but I've managed it. It turns on, runs through BIOS and everything, but when it tries to load Windows it crashes with a lovely BSOD.
The thing is, I had two computers which I wanted to mix together, the motherboard from one computer with pretty much everything else from the other. I'm guessing this is the whole problem, considering technically the motherboard is all that has changed. Oh, and the graphics card, but the last time I changed a graphics card, Windows still loaded up, it just had to use its own graphics drivers... Now I really don't want to have to pull the whole thing apart again, or reinstall Windows particularly. Is it just a case of reinstalling Windows however? Do I have to reinstall Windows if I move the harddrive it's on from one computer to another? |

If you change the motherboard, then yes, you do need to reinstall the operating system. I'm pretty sure that the same thing goes for a new processor, but I'm not sure. Just reinstall windows, and you'll be fine.
And please...don't hit it with a wrench to fix it this time. |

I have to say, I love Windows Vista for being so simple!
I just installed it over my previous installation of XP, and it said it was putting all my files into a folder called Windows.old. So I didn't lose anything! WOO!!! And thanks Vulkar, it's all working now. Of course... Now I have to face more problems with Vista, but I handled it before, I can do it again. 'specially with TinyVista. It's not what Vista can do for you, it's what YOU can do for Vista.
It took me probably 2 weeks but I've completely de-bugged my Vista and I love it to death! |

*Spartan walks into thread sighs at the Vista noobs who disable the features that actually make vista useful all in the attempts to make it less "bloated" [/pentupragefromstupidcustomers]
Now that I've got that out. What exactly did you "debug" I'm kind of curious as to what features of vista you disabled. |

Originally posted by Spartan In other words, I got rid of all of the registry errors that it came with (a LOT of them) and I cleaned up my desktop using RocketDock and Rainmeter. I didn't really disable many features but I did effectively replace Google Taskbar and give Windows Sidebar a boot. Seriously, they are hogs when it comes to resources and aren't necessary. Without any interference, Vista had a BSOD my first night of having this computer so I said "Let's get to work!". Took about 2 days. |

I didn't disable anything myself. It just installed that way. The installer was cut down from DVD size to CD size, a bunch of registry tweaks are applied on install, some other stuff disabled... It all worked absolutely fine for me.
It was still shit for games though considering my now pretty low end PC. |
