Out now, for the Xbox 360 home console via Xbox Live.
Plays almost identical to RE4 with a better menu system for faster combat and a partner to help (or hinder) you. |

I vote hinder.
Not a huge fan of the partner thing and I have a feeling it'll be throughout the whole game (I think the co-op factor backs this up), but oh well. I still think this'll be one of the best games of the year. I ended dying on both levels by the boss-like enemies. |

Yeah, I got grabbed in the first level and smashed in like 2 seconds. The second playthrough, i just ran around the bastard.
In the second level, I got up to the mini-boss and it killed my partner and there was nothing I could do about it! () Still awesome though. |

I never died on the demo levels. The partner partner did. =/
Co-op should make that easier, but split-screen would be ew. It'd have to be online. That chick is pretty crazy though. Flipping all over the place. |

After thinking about it some more, the demo definitely came off quite positive.
I ache for the final product! |

I watched it, and haven't been able to play it.
I did get to see my brother and his friend play online co-op. They killed zombies and then the friend got his head chainsawed off. It looks good. |

Beat it last night with a friend.
Overall it's a good game... but I'm not sure if I can say anything beyond that. Personally, I thought Dead Space was much better. It just really feels like a big step down from RE4. The game is extremely linear and easy (no puzzles basically), broken up into levels and there's no save points or merchant to buy and sell things, the story and characters feel a bit empty (but everything with Wesker was epic)... etc. They even took out some good features in RE4 like being able to instantly use a herb off the ground, or combine it with another herb in your inventory even if it was full. You can't do any of that here. The whole game feels like it was made entirely with co-op in mind. Sheva's AI is pretty dumb and it's just not that fun having her around when you're playing alone. Game probably takes about half as long as RE4 to beat too. All in all I have to say, it's kind of a disappointment. I went in thinking this could be one of my favorites for 09', I knew it probably wouldn't beat out RE4, but it really is just a major step down. Still, worth the purchase and it'll keep me busy for awhile with all the unlockables and stuff. |

I agree on everything you said. I don't really understand why they would leave things out from RE4.
Mercenary mode is still as fun as every though. And I'm really excited for the Versus expansion coming out. (Next Week?) |

I didn't see it as a step-down from 4. It lacked stuff from 4 but it also added other things. Co-op makes it quite fun. Also, from what I can recall, 4 was also very linear and was broken up into levels. My only letdown for 5 was the Mercenaries character variety. The mode itself is very fun, but come on. Safari Chris etc? Give me HUNK and friends.
At least Wesker was a god in this one. Seriously, he was ultra hardcore. |

4 was still a lot more open though and just simply having save rooms made it feel more like an "adventure" to me. You could still backtrack a lot and there's no stage select or anything like that. (Last edited by Xeu on 03-29-09 11:59 PM) |

Uuuurrrghh
I hated RE5. That sidekick was dumb as fuck, never using the decent weapons I gave her. What the hell happened to the 'Attache Case' design of the inventory? Why is the game not scary in the slightest? True, Resident Evil has never been particularly scary, except maybe the Gamecube remakes of the older ones... But this was just as unscary as RE4, and I thought this one was supposed to make up for how humourous rather than scary it is to play that game. So much good from RE4 was removed for this game... |

Picked it up on a whim, and beat the first part of it.
Garbage. Cool; I unload about 2 clips killing some huge parasite motherfucker, and now I have no ammo to kill the 6 other creatures after me. Fantastic. I completely ignore the partner, since it's unbelievably worthless. Game's not even intuitive. It's more of an action game than a survival horror game, and with the fast pace of most of it, the tank-like control scheme does not fit. At all. I can't sidle the wall and peek around to fire a few shots, I can't move while aiming, I can't strafe unless I walk (and walking goes about as fast as trudging through 3 feet of mashed potatoes), and what the fuck is with the 9 slot inventory? Garbage, garbage, garbage. Completely wasted my money on this. |

A little harsh, but yeah I can't help but laugh at the idea of Capcom addingin multiplayer vs modes to this, with the tank controls. There's just no way that can be fun. | |||
