So my boyfriend and I bought tickets to see it in IMAX at the Long Beach Town Center. I guess the first showing they will be having is 5/7/09 at 7pm, but since Ben has to work the closing shift at his job that night we can't make that or the 9:45pm show. So yeah, we're going to the 12:20am show, so I'm still seeing a midnight showing technically and it's in IMAX. I haven't seen a film in IMAX since it first came out and we went on a field trip to see Gorillas in the Mist.

Well, I saw it and I liked it overall. The characters were all well done. The plot... interesting but I think they took the cheap way out.

The main thing that annoyed me was not in the movie, it was the idiots around me in the theater that felt they needed to clap and cheer every time a character was introduced that they knew. It was like watching tv shows with an audience track.

I'm somewhat guilty of that whenever I see a comic book movie. It's usually at the midnight screenings when the hardcore fans come and cheer and get excited and you can't help but feel pulled into the fray of enthusiasm as well.

I'm a bit more inward with my fanticism, though. Like I squee a little if I recognize little things here or there. Like in X2 when someone's flipping through channels at the bar and someone's interviewing Hank McCoy. Or whenever Stan Lee is on screen for a millisecond (I don't get that excited these days... it's just Stan. )

But I do agree it can be annoying.

So I heard McCoy and Scottie were even better than their original series versions. Any truth to that?

I thought they did great jobs. They were both very true to the original characters but also managed to be funnier. I really enjoyed their portrayals.

As for the cheering people... it was four people in the whole theater. They also cheered everytime a trademark line was said... do you know how many times McCoy says "I'm a doctor, not a...."? It got kinda old really fast.

It would have been awesome if he said, "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor..." he then stares directly at the offenders "NOT a fucking comedian! Stop laughing!".

Bad enough when every doctor on each of the series that followed it used that phrase.

What about, "He's dead, Jim"?

Oooh! Oooh!! How many red shirts bought it? You know, how many Ensign Gomez, or Security Officer Ramirez got taken out right away?

Okay, I went to go see this and the theater was packed. I made it 10 minutes into the movie when this nasty high-pitched buzzing sound came out of the speakers so I left. I'm pretty bummed about it and I really hate Tinseltown because they never fix their faulty equipment D:

Abrams should've directed Star Wars I-III.

Yeah, but they were kinda pissy about it. I was just pissed that I waited in the theater for an hour just to get good seats just to have to walk out because of a migraine...

So I saw it saturday night, and I thought it was freaking awesome.

One of the things that I was really afraid of was that the whole movie would just try to imitate the original Star Trek, basically by being badly acted clones of the originals. This surprised me though by being very, very awesome.

Like everyone else, I especially liked Zachary Quinto as Spock. While he lacked the signature voice that's pretty much defined Spock, he did manage to pull off the acting and emotion pretty much perfectly. I thought he was pretty much made of epic.

Oh yeah, and the battles were several times as good as any of the other Star Treks. It made even the Wrath of Kahn look boring.

I went to see it in Athens, Greece. But it was turning into night fall and we couldn't find the theater.. . On my birthday too!

Oh well, I'll go see it when I get back into the states. My parents are big Trekkies, so all of us are excited!

You're in Athens? Envy!!

There was at least one red shirt, and it was so obvious that it was coming. Ah, the good things never change.

Hmn... a prequel trilogy that would have not sucked... how nice that would have been.

My friend asked me which was better to go see, Wolverine or Star Trek. I said both were good but I liked Star Trek better. She asked which was worth the money more and both me and a random person answered Star Trek. I was on the escalator at school, it was funny.

Out of all the major geek blockbusters this season (among Watchmen, Wolverine, Star Trek or Terminator), I'd say Star Trek was definitely the best of the bunch (although my preference falls on Terminator and Watchmen, but that's just me).

It was pretty damn cool. Love that they finally showed Kirk's Kobayashi Maru and some of Sulu's swordplay. Above all I LOVE that Majel still played a part in it before she died. This movie's definitely something special.

So between Wolverine and Star Trek, yeah, definitely Trek.
