So today my boyfriend and I got two really cute kittens, one boy and one girl. I already named the boy (Hunter), but we haven't come up with a name for the girl just yet. They are very similar and really cute. I'm being nice and letting my boyfriend come up with the name for the girl since I came up with Hunter.
Hunter The unnamed kitten Aren't they cute? Edit: Removed layout (Last edited by Elara on 06-12-09 05:32 PM) |

Yeah I know. We were gonna call the girl Stalker, but while it fit her personality perfectly it just doesn't sound right. She acts like a little assassin while hunter is very quick to chase and pounce and pull out the claws... like a little beserker. Ben suggested Rogue instead, as it also captures her sneakiness and it just sorta fits. So yeah, as amusing as it sounds for me to say it here, we are calling her Rogue. I've would've named her Artemis to keep the theme going.

Ben turned down all such names... but honestly Rogue fits her better. She sneak attacks.
Right now I am really annoyed with them to be honest. One of them peed on our bed last night. I don't know which one, but I lean towards Hunter because he was drinking more water. The washer here is small and I am not sure if the comforter will fit in it, and in addition the cover on the mattress is a bitch to get off. |

At least you have a washer, hehe. It's not as bad as cleaning up alcohol vomit (lots of it) when you only have a shower!

Awww, the joys of kitties pissing all over the place. *Loving sigh*
The problem that I had with having a male and female kitten at the same time is that the female pretty much hated using the box, because it had the male's smell all over it. When we got her her own box, he immediately tagged it as his own. Both of them ended up learning to go outside, as they were both indoor-outdoor, but there was definitely a lot of spraying going on before that. And "bwaha!" about the name. Fappy (may he rest in peace) never really had one name. I originally called in Kamikaze because as a kitten he had a thing for climbing up to high places and then jumping off. And he jumped like with both paws above his head like he was shouting "Banzaaaaiii!!" and knew it was the end for him. Then he was called Tuxedo, which my parents still called him 'til he passed away. Same story, sort of, with Miko. Because she snuck around and disappeared at random we started calling her Ninja. But then I thought of how ridiculous it might be if I shouted that name around the neighborhood , so we stuck her with a sex-ninja name. Yep, Miko's named for a hentai character. Incidentally, your little Rogue there sort of struck me as a Domino, the mutant who can influence luck and chance. Always hangs out with Bishop. But, you know, it's Ben's name choice. |

I suggested Domino but he didn't like it. I am just amused that he went for the D&D inspired name since he professes to hate D&D. At least he didn't name her Cat or Nagato. He wanted to name them Irony and Spite because they were estimatedly born on April 1st, but I wouldn't let him. But yeah, she climbs on everything and just sits and watches you, waiting for you to turn away before she moves... and she sneaks around a lot. It's really cute. She's also mastered leaping on the bed, Hunter hasn't, but I've seen him do it. I think he's just lazy.
We were able to get the bed cleaned up easily, and no more accidents since then. Now we are just trying to get it through their heads that chewing on the computer wires is a bad idea... they are stubbornly opposed to this notion. Oh, and Hunter has taken to nuzzling Rogue constantly while I am trying to sleep, which is bad because she's taken to sleeping on my shoulder at night. The internet says that it is a stress reaction and he's simulating nursing because he misses mommy or something, so I am trying to be understanding but it goes on forever and more often than not he is ending up on my face. |

A friend mentioned that licking your finger and rubbing it on their forehead establishes you as their mother. I'm not sure how well it works.
Poor Hunter. |

I will give it a try and see if it works. What is weird is that other than the suckle/nuzzle thing there is no other sign of stress... other than them hiding when strangers come in, but I assume that is normal.

Yep, hiding's definitely normal. Cats are usually quick to distrust first, though there are some who are out-right friendly right away.
When I was first picking out Miko and Fappy from Shirley's cats, Miko crawled into my robe (as I was wearing a bathrobe at the time), curled up and laid there. Miko also has a thing for always sleeping right up against me, and it's getting really common for me to accidentally roll over onto her or kick her in the face in my sleep. I remember hearing that all this behavior was because she was really close with her mother and was looking to me to fill that void when she was taken from her. She doesn't show any signs of stress (in that regard anyway) either. It's probably something they do unconsciously. Cats don't often do things with a purpose, they just do what feels right. And most of the time as they get older, what feels right is curling up and taking frequent naps. And when that happens it's your sworn duty to put things on them, take pictures, and submit them to Stuff on My Cat. |
