Came across this today.
Biggest ripoff of TF2 since Battlefield Heroes... http://kotaku.com/5306691/korean-pc-game-rips+off-team-fortress-2 A comparison video between this game's ad and TF2's Meet the Team videos. |

So people in both games look cartoony, run, shoot, and have health packs that look the same as quite a few other games...
I watched the comparison trailer thing about halfway through, and it seems like everything they call similiar are really in pretty much every shooting game out there... I don't ever plan to play either, but I realy don't see that big of a deal, other than the style being the same. |

Oh I'm not saying I won't play it, I'm gonna be playing the Beta when it is released.
But I said in my 'Innovation' article a while back that I don't like this constant repetition of games... And while certain aspects of the videos are themes used in many others, there are just too many similarities between this beta and TF2's Meet The Team videos. The fact that it's a first person, cartoon style, class based first person shooter. There isn't anything I can think of before TF2 that matches that description. Battlefield: Heroes already attempted such a thing and, while a fun game, to any TF2 fan it's painfully obvious where things have been lifted. It's also a much simpler game with only three classes, one being a cross between the Scout, Sniper and Spy, one a cross between the Medic and the Soldier, and one a cross between the Heavy and the Demoman. At least the BF:H theme tune has been changed to something a little less TF2-esque... And now resembles Christian rock music. *Barfs* All I'm saying is, this game is an utter rip off. Whether or not it's fun or not doesn't matter, and I'll end up playing it just to see its differences. Plus, it's mainly the fact it's taken such a similar style to TF2, but replaced the war hardened construction and demolition workers with anime dolls. And come on, the baseball bat scene? There is no way you can say that's used a lot. |

So there's another trailer (It came out a while back, around the time I made this thread in fact xD), this time showing off gameplay, and it does indeed look rather good. It's not first person, it's not class based. However... While it resembles less TF2... It does now resemble Battlefield Heroes a lot more, something which the poster of the video neglected to look into when describing the TF2 trolls. That game was clearly a TF2 competitor, so... Really, the few differences here is that instead of class based, you design classes with weapons that I believe you collect through playing the game, but I'm not sure if that's the case though. You get four different character models you can customise to your liking, then you battle in a pretty basic third person shooter style game, which sounds fine, but unlike TF2 and BF:H, I can see this causing a lot of the same problems MW and MW2 had with their multiplayer, with high level people having a distinct advantage over lower levels with better weapons and abilities. The HUD, while different in layout, is very similar to TF2, except this game allows for a Team Deathmatch mode which is shown off in the gameplay footage. But looking at the weapon lists, the frantic gameplay, the way the death thing in the top right shows player names in team colour with what weapon was used to kill with on a white rectangular background is pretty similar to TF2. And I'm still personally reeling from the scene in the first trailer with a double jump then a bonk across the head... But it certainly looks good. It's not looking promising for a release any time soon, since they were estimating Q3 of 2009 for release, and it's now 2010. The beta footage looked pretty polished though, so hopefully a release will be soon! |
