This needed to happen.
I'll start us off with a game I've been listening to nonstop lately, after beating it and all. The original Unreal! YES, this series apparently had an actual campaign beyond all the Tournament stuff and I've gotta say, it was insanely atmospheric almost purely driven by the music and awesome level design (the game had practically no story, it wasn't needed). The music was done by one of the same guys who did a lot on Deus Ex's music. The game is huge, your ship crash lands on an alien planet, you step outside and hear this: Things just got real. The rest of the music in this game is constantly at this calibur. Breathtaking! Here's another favorite, the ending credits theme: Discuss the awesomeness that is VGM. In Halls of Reflection, this plays as Arthas turns his attention toward you and your party. RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
Here's another good one from WoW, it plays during the I'm not only a fan of WoW but also Final Fantasy XI, where hearing this song for the first time gave me the chills, making The Sanctuary of Zi'Tah instantly my favorite zone. This has got to be my most memorable song in any video game, I can't explain it but I just plain love it. E- Why didn't we make a thread like this years ago? ._. I think we might have had some music threads before, but yeah ... lol, this thread should be awesome.
Haha, Cyberpeacock was probably my favorite from X4. (though that one had some Super Ghouls and Ghosts remixes too I think?), the snow stage had amazing music too. That FFXI song bleeds IX, I like it a lot. XIII was an absolute mixed bag. Some of the music was breathtaking, some really sucked like Snow's butt rock theme (wait didn't you like that one Sei? haha...) Then suddenly songs like this come out of nowhere, I remember when this first popped up I didn't want to leave the area since the music would stop! I think some of the final boss themes were like One Winged Angel in style, but quite possibly better (not a huge OWA fan honestly). This song was SO in sync with the cutscene (the actual battle started about 40 seconds in), it was chillingly awesome. I hear a lot of old FF and Uematsu in this one. Sounds like it'd fit with Kefka! Haha, must be.
Wasn't their constant wind in the background of that Sonic song? Something about it sounds off. I think 2 was a little weak in terms of music, compared to 1 and S&K. 3 had some downright headache indulging tunes though, like the carnival levels. Oh but Sonic CD is King. BOTH versions, I love both. For S&K though this was one of my favorites: Also I know most hated the game, but I thought Sonic 3D had some killer stuff: I totally missed out on the Saturn version though. |

Also, anything from Sonic CD. That was some awesome freaking music!
The music from which I hum the most, Xenogears. ...and another for good measure! Okay, last one, I promise. This one made me go "OH SHIT" whenever I heard it, I always knew a painfully difficult fight was in store after hearing it. |

I guess that cover might speak about the quality of the game itself?
Killer music though. Also forgot to mention, you guys know of di.fm? I think they recently added a chiptunes playlist. http://www.di.fm/ (Last edited by Xeus on 08-05-10 12:15 AM) |

Xenogears!
I have no problem saying I'd put Mitsuda above Uematsu. Mitsuda is da man when it comes to JRPG music, along with the Secret of Mana composer. The One Who Bares Fangs at God is so epic. Man I just played that game last year and already want to replay it. Probably one of the most intense final boss themes: And this one is amazing: Speaking of Secret of Mana, I think that one is my favorite JRPG/SNES wise when it comes to music. It's so beautiful and surreal, it's insane. Still can't comprehend how it's on the SNES: |

One of the most underrated game I think I've played. Also some of the best music I've ever heard from a game.
Also, since we're talking Final Fantasy music, I can't believe that no one mentioned this... (Last edited by Vulkar on 08-06-10 12:36 PM) |

Yeah One Winged Angel just goes without saying now.
Needs more Dancing Mad. |

I mentioned it here, I'd take the second two songs I posted there over OWA. I honestly think I've always liked the Bizarro Sephiroth/Jenova Complete themes more personally.
Dancing Mad is in a completely different league! Overall I think my top favorite FF boss theme has always been IV's. Pretty unforgettable (and can't forget the remix for Culex in Super Mario RPG! haha). |

If we're talking Castlevania, some of my favorite music is from Curse of Darkness
These are probably my two favorite songs in the game. |

Someday I'll have to get to that one. Was it as repetitive as Lament of Innocence? I enjoyed that game but after awhile could only take so many hallways and repeating rooms that felt like it was made in the Dark Cloud editor or something, haha...
Speaking of OoE though, loved that one to death. Probably my favorite DS CV overall. |
