So, this thread is more or less based on a show called "Extraordinary People". But let's make this a little more interesting: Documentaries about people with remarkable abilities.
You see, I have been into this kinda thing for years. Researching people who are just outstanding and more or less are just amazing to discover. Before I begin, let me point out two movies that are based on true stories. Well, one of them is. The other is based on child Savants, which does indeed exist. The first movie is Rain Man. Based on a real person. You don't think so? Keep reading. This movie is based on a man who learns basically everything instantly. Only problem is that he is mentally handicapped. But his extraordinary gift is used by the Actor Tom Cruise to win big money at a casino. And now, for the man behind the movie. Meet Kim Peek. The living Google. Feast your eyes on this man: Kim peek knows every zip code, every street, every history lesson on every street on every street, every date on important history dates, and more. Only problem is of course he is mentally handicapped, also, he does not understand the information provided, yet he can absorb it. He can read an entire book, one eye for each side of the book, in less than 10 minutes while memorizing word for word 100%. To the teeth. Even every punctuation mark. Kim Peek is my Idol. And it makes me tear up every time I watch this documentary. And now, for the second movie: The Last Mimzy. Now, after watching the trailer. You already know for a damn fact that it's not based on a true story. But it got it's influence from Rain Man. And it's about children with superhuman abilities. Mainly savants who have no handicap. Which is what brings us to our next Savant Meet Daniel Tammet: The boy with the incredible Brain He is basically a human calculator who does not think about math equations. The answers come to him in such an astounding way that he can even beat computers. And to top it all off, he can learn any language in the world in less than 10 days. And he proves this in this documentary by learning one of the hardest languages in the world. Go forth and post my minions |
