So last year I got a taste in being a shriner while I was currently a fellowcraft in my Lodge here in Georgia. I was pretty much ahead of my studies and was also pretty active in the charity community. Mainly, the Shriners were eyeballing me in a way that they were excited to see someone young as me become a Mason.
I first got the oppertunity from my Uncle. Who called me up one day and just out of the blue asked me: "Hey, feel like clowning around"? Me: "...huh?" Uncle: "Boy I am talking about being in the Circus"! Me: "Uhh...the Circus"? Uncle: "The Shrine Circus, I already got the go ahead to get you painted up and in the center ring. I want you to get a taste of the Shrine". Me: "Oh wow...that sounds like fun." And indeed it was. Two 12 hour days of dressing up as a clown, signing autographs for children, being in center stage in front of 8 thousand people doing slap joke acts, and finally; feeling good at the end of each day. Well this year I am a full fledge Shriner. I got my red fez, my butt sore from waiting on a bus, and a 32 degree badge tasseled on my lambskin. In case you dont know who the Shriners are. Here is a video: Shriners are all about having fun and helping children. However, you have to be a Master Mason before you can choose this appendant body. I'm excited about this. Discuss THOSE GOD DAMN MASONS WHO ARE SECRETLY WATCHING YOU SLEEP AT NIGHT! |

I like the Shriners. Ben's dad is a Shriner, and a Mason... really high up, I forget how high. So I go to Lodge picnics every year and we go to the circus at the Shrine Auditorium when we can (haven't made it the last two years).

What sucks is that I got work that day. I am looking to see if someone can cover my shift this Sunday.
I already sent E-mails saying that I might not be able to make it. My brothers are saying: "Work is more important. But if you can make it we can rock out". So I am going to look at handing my Sunday over. |

Hope you can get to go and have fun. You should try to make it out for one of the Los Angeles events when you get the chance. I know Ben's dad travels all of the time, so if you ever meet Dave Chernik you can tell him you know me.
Hopefully your circus gets to have big cats still... the LA one doesn't get them anymore. It's really sad. |

I also know that there are no more elephants in the Georgia shows either. You can't have a circus without some elephants!
But there are king of the jungles that perform. I got to see one last year close up and BOY DO THEY STINK |

I cannot remember if there was an elephant or not... I don't think so since it was indoors. They didn't have the room to have one.

I'm going to take a guess and say that the Mason references are about Free Masons lol, but the constant out right discussion of Free Masonry takes away from the mystique of being one. The secret rituals, the ties into any and all things. I love Shriners btw, good family fun to be had by all.

I'm now upset but even so, the whole thing with a secret group is the secret part, and it takes away when discussed so freely.

Well, I went. But I was too late to be a part of the show. I did help out on packing things up and helping out some people. But it's too bad I wasn't able to go clowning around
This thread certainly was something. |
