Watched Robocop again last night. I miss when composers knew how to write themes. (Last edited by Xeus on 01-27-11 12:22 PM) |

I watched There Will Be Blood about a week. A very slow movie, but definitely worth a watch. | |||

Finally finished "The Wrestler." Not bad, but the ending is pretty abrupt.
I bought it last month out of a bargain bin at Wal-Mart. It was well-worth the $5. |

Originally posted by Spiral King Agreed. I just watched Robocop 1&2 (I don't know a 3rd one. I just dont) and the music for the movies were just epic. The third movie; as much as I hate it had the same soundtrack and yet the music was even better than the movie itself. Sorry. I just hate the third movie. Yeah Murphy got the SOOPER KOOL JETPACK and everything but it still sucked. As for new movies: Bicentennial Man. Holy crap what a good movie. As much as I hate Robin Williams (In an acting kinda way) this movie was not really that bad! .01% Creepy and yet it was 100% awesome! |

Just watched Big Trouble in Little China. Jack Burton is one of the best movie characters and delivers some great one-liners.

Since my boyfriend got a library card with our city and I finally got mine renewed we've been borrowing DVDs like crazy.
We've watched Cinderfella, Where the Wild Things Are, The Duchess, Year One, The Rocker, Beavis and Butthead Do America, Across the Universe (seen it already), Rocky IV (seen it already), Wrath of Khan (seen it already), You Don't Mess with the Zohan, Night at the Museum (seen most of it before), a Canadian production of Pirates of Penzance, and the 1970s King Kong starring The Dude. The last thing we watched was The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Now that's a great movie. I need to get my own copy of it. (Last edited by Rogue on 02-16-11 09:27 PM) |

Since I only had one class today, I spent the better part of it watching movies borrowed from the library. Watched The Losers, Fantastic Voyage, Be Kind Rewind, and Cars.
Be Kind Rewind was probably the most enjoyable. |

So since last post watched Secret of Kells and Wong Kar Wai's In the Mood for Love.
Both movies were really pretty to look at, but the stories left more to be desired. Secret of Kells had GREAT animation, but I would have liked the story to be longer. In the Mood for Love started out well, but it's like they reached the conflict, then there's no climax or resolution. It just sort of drifts toward the credits very slowly. |

Just watched all of the '95 tv series Pride and Prejudice (Colin Firth as Darcy is so hot!) and other than that have been steadily plugging through Star Trek: TNG. Also saw Inception and it was good, especially with Rifftrax.
And then, there was the horror... finally saw the Star Wars Holiday Special. Rifftrax is the only reason I still have my sanity. I mean, it was like two hours of torture! I don't think I can ever watch it again. |

Originally posted by Elara Indeed! I practically grew up watching it. My mom and cousins were really into it when I was a kid. In fact, I have the VHS box set on the desk next to me right now. Just finished watching Land of the Lost. It's so underrated. I guess people were expecting a direct adaptation to the TV show and that it'd be kid-friendly. If you like Eastbound and Down, it's hysterical. |

Inception with Rifftrax sounds amazing actually. I'm gonna be honest and say after seeing that movie a second time, I kind of thought it sucked quite a bit. I hate to sound cliche' like a lot of the criticism it gets, but I definitely agree that Ellen Page's character is rather worthless. I think originally she wasn't supposed to be in it? But Hollywood thought the movie was too complex or something, so she's there so they can explain absolutely every single little pointless thing to us. It's sad that you could say, hey maybe a fan edit would be cool, but too bad she's in like 80% of the movie. I also really disliked how quick she was to being emotionally attached to all those characters, realistically it just didn't add up to me.
I've been laying off the anime lately and watching a lot more movies. Really, way too much so here's a quick run down of the last two weeks... Rewatches: Terminator - I might prefer it over T2. Just love the bleak atmosphere and chase pacing. Aliens - Absolutely love it. First time seeing it all the way through: Alien - Without a doubt one of the best timeless films I've ever seen. Better than Aliens I'd say, but I still love Aliens despite some fans. Escape From New York - Campy John Carpenter, lol. New watches: Aliens 3 - I honestly didn't think it was "that" bad. Not amazing though. Alien Resurrection - Perhaps even worse than AvP. Very bad, hard to finish. The Abyss - Loved it, a bit long and sappy towards the end though. Mad Max - Not what I expected, very different from 2-3! Not bad. Black Rain - 1989, directed by Ridley Scott with Michael Douglas, one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Cop drama with a LOT of power and emotion. The Shining - Yes, finally saw this. Completely blew my mind, Kubrick's directing here was insane and the camera work was so impressive and classy. Incredible. Hard Boiled (John Woo!) - Crazy. The Killer (John Woo!) - Crazy with more emotion. Also was convinced to give the Elm Street series a whirl, it's been a hell of a blast... Nightmare on Elm Street - Loved it, good story/characters, amazing music, lots of charm. More amusing that scary, but still good stuff. Nightmare on Elm Street 2 - Wow lol. Nightmare on Elm Street 3 - Great stuff, nice continuity between 1. Nightmare on Elm Street 4 - Turning into Goosebumps, still fun. Nightmare on Elm Street 5 - Horrible, insanely bad. Nightmare on Elm Street 6 - Goosebumps, bad, but amusing unlike 5. I hear 7 is pretty legit and supposedly Robert Englund's favorite after the original, plus Wes Craven returns so that has to say something I hope. I don't think I plan to check out the remake anytime soon though, doesn't sound too great. |

So I continue to plow through movies from the library. Last night finally saw Top Gun from beginning to end. It's like one long gay joke with how much homoerotic innuendo is in there. On top of that, it kept playing "Danger Zone" and "Take My Breath Away" in pieces throughout the film. It was so hard to take seriously.
Also last night, I finally went to see Tangled, which I'd been waiting months for, in 3D (can't afford first-run theaters these days, so I had to wait for it to hit the cheap theater - $3 = WIN). I LOVED it. Worth the wait. Disney created a prince I actually like (well, other than Naveen) and he's damn good looking. |

Tango & Cash.
It has Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russel teaming up. The 80's. Nuff said? |

Finally saw Green Hornet.
It wasn't bad. Pretty funny overall. I give them credit for having an Asian male seen as romantically desirable, though, even if it was only slightly. |

Finally saw Doubt. It was like watching an overly dramatic play with the ultra-obvious symbolism and direct connections and foreshadowing with the dialogue, and no definite ending.
It wasn't bad, but I could see why it didn't win Best Picture. |

Just got back from seeing Sucker Punch in the cheap theater.
Honestly, it wasn't awful. I liked it. I know a lot of people have been bashing it for one reason or another, but it's like a female version of The Fall with these detailed fantasy worlds. It was fun. |

I'm gonna have to be honest and say I thought Thor was pretty bad.
- Some of the camera work made me nauseous (this rarely happens) - The camera work just outright sucked during the few fights (can't see what's going on) - Typical bombastic Hollywood soundtrack - Slapstick comedy - One of the most boring, cliche', and pointless romances I've ever seen. I also hated how Thor's personality changed overnight. Sure, a lot happened... I guess. I love Thor, and was extremely underwhelmed. But I'm really just losing interest in Marvel's movies in general thesedays to be honest. |

Just saw Your Highness. If you're a Danny McBride fan it's at least watchable, but otherwise it got a little painful to sit through at times. Once Natalie Portman's character finally showed up it went a bit smoother, but yeah... painful.
It was like a stoner gorged himself on Lord of the Rings, Labyrinth, Willow, The Dark Crystal, Legend, Clash of the Titans, and Star Wars, washed them all down with a bucket of bean burritos and maple syrup and this was the feces found in the toilet the next morning. |
