What are your thoughts of all these movies suddenly coming out in 3D?

Seems like most of them are only retroactively being made so (Green Hornet, The Last Airbender, The Lion King, for crying out loud, etc), and it's an excuse to crank the ticket prices.

"Is it over yet?"

I look forward to saying that.

Also lol at the 3DS failing.

What about the fact that they were trying to put out TV sets you had to watch wearing glasses in your home?

While there are some movies that are AMAZING in 3D, I'm also looking forward to saying things like, "Oh yeah, I remember when that happened. Imagine what'd be like if that craze actually took off."

Seriously, it's a total joke to me. I don't even like seeing movies at the theaters in 3D that much, maybe it's not for me. But as for the average consumer nowadays a lot of us just finally upgraded to HDTV's, and now they've been rolling out LED HDTV's which are a little step up from that. But who wants to spend a couple more thousand on 3DTV's now? Horrible timing but I'm thankful of it because I just think it's a lame trend with no appeal to me.

I've reached the point where I don't take a movie seriously if it also comes out in 3D (excluding the CG animated movies for kids and adults who are kids at heart).

I mean, look at the latest: Journey to the Center of the Earth (starring Brendan Fraser), Green Hornet, The Last Airbender, Three Musketeers, Priest, the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Transformers, Thor, Piranha 3D, etc.

Seems like serious directors who just want you to enjoy a good movie and not buy into the smoke and mirrors take pride in releasing "in glorious 2D," as John Favreau puts it.

As in movies that feel like they're entirely marketed towards the 3D gimmick? Yeah ... Avatar was maybe the exception for me, but I definitely know what you mean. Wasn't the last Resident Shit Evil all about the hyped up 3D aspect as well? I definitely can't stand when I see commercials that give off that vibe for a movie.

I blame Avatar... which is ironic because the 3D was so subtle in that movie.

But yeah... kill it with fire. That is my opinion. I think its stupid, especially for what they charge for it... and I really just cannot wait for it to die. Those glasses still give me a damn headache--plus it was clear that they did not keep in mind those of us that normally have to wear glasses when the 3D ones were designed.

I remember years back getting super excited when Disney did a special release of Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D. I paid like $12 to see it, and it absolutely pissed me off. Like all these other films that weren't filmed with 3D in mind, it was all just one flat-looking image coming out over a flat background.

And now they've put out The Lion King in 3D, and it's KILLING in the box office. I have no clue if it's actually three-dimensional or if it's like a pop-up book too, but this REALLY needs to stop.

And regarding the glasses comment, I agree. I wear my glasses to the movies and it can be a bitch layering them over each other. I might as well make my own clip-on pair.

I'm on the same boat as everyone else here in saying that 3D isn't good or it needs to die.

And everyone is going to look at that and think that 3D remakes are a good idea, even though 3D isn't even the main draw, seeing classic movies in theaters again is.

The last movie that I had seen in 3D was Captain America. The movie was completely badass in every aspect, but the only actual 3D was a split second where his shield bounces off of a bad guy and into the screen. If it were properly utilized, then 3D would be amazing to see in the theatres, however, it seems that film producers have little regard for a thing called "stereoscopic vision" and only throw it in as a gimmick to make more money at the box office.

When movies are built around the idea of 3D, they're a lot more fun to watch in the theatre but ultimately disappointing at home, so it's a trade off.

Don't go see Lion King 3D.

You are much better off watching the original one. They only added about 5 3D scenes that really didn't even look that awesome.

Jackass 3D and Toy Story 3D was AMAZING THOUGH!

Toy Story 3 was awesome, but I got a MASSIVE headache watching Jackass 3D (mostly for that finale scene when everything's blowing up).
