I'm messing around on OkCupid lately. Any other good free sites worth checking out? Think I heard Plenty of Fish isn't bad.

Figured I have nothing to lose so why not? I've all but given up on somehow meeting someone here in flatlands KS. Well, I'm just looking for women and friends in the area, but meeting them in person is just not happening. lol, I keep hearing some people I know off and on lately though have success stories to tell. Maybe you guys do as well or have heard things. Just interesting stuff I guess. I'm not sure why I was so against it for the longest time... lol.

Only problem is I really have like no good pictures of myself, which you guys know by now, lmao!

Do you or a friend have a digital camera? Have one of them go out with you and take a couple pictures in a park or something just so you have something to put up.

Anyway, I do have a friend who met her current boyfriend off OK Cupid. They've been together for 3 years now and recently got an apartment together in Long Beach. I guess you could call it a success story despite the fact that this guy brings out the worst in her and they're incredibly annoying to be around. Figures this bipolar girl would hook up with a bipolar guy who drives a BMW and believes he's better than everyone who doesn't.

I technically met my boyfriend of 8 years through a message board. A mutual friend was running his own board and we used to post back and forth on topics. Then I met him in real life and we became good friends.

Good luck, boss man.

I hate Plenty of Fish. There is no algorithm that actually determines compatibility with anyone, it just throws people toward you at random.

As far as OkCupid is concerned, it's probably the best site that I have ever found. I found my previous two girlfriends on there, and while we would have worked out, they were also long-distance relationships. My current girlfriend went on the site for shits and giggles, answered about a thousand questions, and figured out that we're 99.7% compatible.

Pretty much all you have to do is answer at least 500 questions and just start up a conversation with somebody who is at least 85% compatible. At the very least, you'll make a friend.

The problem is no picture! lmao... this one chick I discovered on Friday I messaged, logged in earlier today but I didn't get anything back. Maybe she'll reply eventually. Don't want to sound stalkerish or anything, but I guess it's exciting. I've been on this thing for several months now but her profile was like the best I've seen, so I finally messaged someone. I was kind of jokey about it like "... but will you message someone without a picture? lol", so who knows. Is pretty much everyone there "Replies Very Selectively"? that's all I tend to really see.

I guess I'll try to get some pics up soon and just stick with OkCupid. I definitely like it a lot. Rather, I think the bigger issue is KS itself haha. Not to be too picky or anything, but yeah.

Guess I'll keep you guys posted. Might ask my sister tomorrow if she can take a picture in the backyard or something. I'm gonna do the Ken Levine pose:

Where are all the punk/alt girls in KS! You hogging them all Cteno?...

Maaaaaybe...

I guess I'd say to just keep at it. A picture DEFINITELY helps as well, so the sooner the better. Another thing I've learned is to not judge based on appearances as much as mutual interests. My last girlfriend didn't dress at all like me but she brought me back to my anime/Pokemon roots and I had a blast re-learning the joys of my youth. I had spent so much time trying my hardest to be "mature" but I simply wasn't happy, so even though the relationship didn't work out (it was long-distance), I'm better off because it happened and I made a really great friend.

E- found you. XD

I personally find OkCupid amusing. I joined it to save my quiz results primarily, but I have made one friend from it. My friend actually tried out e-Harmony and found a really awesome guy so they seem to be pretty good... she had to lie about her weight to make an account though, which is something I personally hate about that company... they apparently think chunky people don't deserve love.

I've heard e-Harmony also asks you strategic questions that if it proves that you aren't Christian enough they tell you there's nobody for you. At least that's what I've heard from a few people who've tried it out and were fed that info.

lol, all the chicks I find interest in seem to typically be agnostic/atheist so far. I wish I could put "Apathetic" there, haha. It really is almost an instant turn off when I see someone's Christian, especially if "Very serious about it" is tagged along with it.

I also have it set to show me bi chicks. Is this a good move or bad? Because so far it's like... they all tend to lean more towards wanting women more. haha

I've always heard bad things about Match.com, so yeah if I go for a paysite I'll probably check out e-harmony. Is the 10$ worth it at OkCupid though for some extra searching/features? Hard to tell.

STALKERS!!!

@Cteno: Well the goofy thing is that I am completely normal and reserved in my appearance (you probably saw this if you read my profile there, lmao). Yet I guess I keep searching around for girls who go for the alternative look, just my kink perhaps. But it makes me wonder what the chances are of a normal dude ending up with an abstract/crazier looking chick (no idea how to put it) would be. Hopefully it's not impossible! ...

I wouldn't say impossible, no.

I just remembered that another of my friends met someone on OKCupid (thanks to my convincing him to go there, go me) and they seem to be hitting if off well.

Rogue: the friend in question is a weird buddhist/christian/meh sorta person (Holly, if you remember her from Rockbottom)... but now I am curious so I will ask her about that.

My relationship before my husband ended on a real sour note. All the guy wanted was sex... everything on his page except his picture was lies. I even learned to play golf with him so that I could be a bit closer and help him understand that I understood his wanting to be a professional golf player.

Nope... nope... Just a txt at work saying that we had to split.

Well, my first relationship lasted 4 years -- I was the alternative one, she wore pink and was somewhat of a preppy girl in high school, so I'd say that yes it would.

I've been told good things about Plenty of Fish and OkCupid, mostly when I had just left my (now ex-) husband. I wasn't even looking for a relationship then! Ugh!

I did, however meet my current boyfriend online... though it was ten years ago on a Final Fantasy XI message board (a game neither of us ended up playing, lol), so I can't give you much help on where to find someone. We just met in person for the first time last February, so we still may be some "honeymoon" phase in our relationship, despite knowing each other so well.

I will say, however, that this is the best relationship I've ever been in. I feel like I'm treated like a princess, and he's always there for support and advice or a shoulder to cry on if I need it. We have never argued about anything, and rarely disagree on anything. We've even both gotten each other to try things one of us may like, and the other thought they hated. It's been amazing.

So, there is hope out there. I do suggest finding a photo ASAP for your profile... Girls will be much more inclined to respond. (At least, I know I wouldn't respond, who knows, it could be some kind of creeper!)

No bites so far. Am I just too PLAIN looking? lmao. Well... meh, I'll now just play the waiting game again. I see some people delete their profiles pretty quickly too sometimes.

I think it's at the point where if I finally found some awesome chick over in London or on another planet, I'd traverse the universe to get to her.

I'd say give it a few weeks or so. Funnily enough, I always get messaged when I'm not even trying.

OkCupid is so weird, I keep seeing new people off and on every day, despite not really updating my profile or doing any new questions. Is there just some constant background calculations always going on or something? lol. Just seems weird how random the listings are sometimes.

It's the Quiver thing. People get you as a suggestion of someone they might like, and then they can view your profile and message you.

That I know, it seems like it keeps changing or something though. Not sure...

EDIT: Wait, if other people are constantly answering questions too... now it makes sense. I feel dumb. lol

Oh wow, I was about to suggest that.

About the Quiver Matches... they suck. Those are truly random.
