The apartment life has been amazing so far.
I don't know how it's already been like 6 months though. WTF? |

We had windows with crappy blinds that the cats chewed holes in so that never happened when I had an apartment... but yeah, there is something to be said for the freedom of not living with other people.

Sadly I'm not totally alone yet, and my roommate... only guy I'd ever trust (money wise) and all, is a complete and total slob. I'm going to have to talk to him soon because at this point I feel like I'm totally being taken for granted. I feel like a maid, pay more for the bigger room, but continually add things from dishes, to mats, utilities, etc, and he never does. He sucks at washing dishes, never pulls them out of the dishwasher, never gets the mail (I don't think he's even changed his address in the 6-7 months we've been here), and he's been "borrowing" a TV stand for his room this entire time while he keeps saying he's going to get one, along with a damn lan cable going from the living room to his room for internet. I'll repeat that, a lan cable going from the living room through the hallway to his room. Never pulls the trash out until I do and set it next to the door, signalling that YES THIS IS FULL TAKE IT AWAY.
I got furious over the weekend about it all. He went out of town leaving me to do the dishes the second time that week and so I literally spent like 5 hours cleaning the place Saturday since it really needed it. Wiped down everything, mopped the hard floors, vacuumed, everything but his room (obviously not touching that) or the kitchen table since it's a big pile of his shit, with literally nothing of mine on it. So he has yet to say anything. You'd have to be freaking blind to not see the transformation over the weekend. But yeah seriously, can I just get a damn thanks? I even took pictures: http://imgur.com/a/4fvhO - reminder, all his. I rinse dishes as I use them so you just throw them in the dishwasher when it's time. Oh all those dishes are owned by me though. http://i.imgur.com/vP1CrhI.jpg - Took like an hour and hopefully I didn't catch a disease cleaning that sink. http://i.imgur.com/NBpiFfZ.jpg - The blender on the right with the salt/pepper, is typically the full extent of counter space I get to use. All that other shit is his and of course, he does this protein heavy diet so he eats and cooks the same crap all the time, 5 meals a day, using up the dishes and stuff instantly. http://i.imgur.com/dDHnLxs.jpg - His room. http://i.imgur.com/uEiL0py.jpg - Mine. Nuff' said. Maybe his dad allowed this, but I'd love to see him find anyone else in the world that'd tolerate this shit. He's like my best friend but good lord I feel like a babysitter. |

I'm digging the Half Life comradery you two share.
But yeah. Needle punch him in the throat, and if it doesn't kill him, tell him that you'll do that for every mess he leaves. Dude, I HATE that shit. (Although, don't get me wrong, my bedroom is almost always fucking disgusting. Between work, school, and my family, by the time I even MAKE it to my room, I'm passing out in the doorway. But still, something I should work on. Kinda sucks when its 9x11 feet and I'm living/running a business out of it. Artwork. Head out of the gutter.) But yeah. Beat him up or something. Either that or make him split the price of the house evenly, bigger room or not, for all the work you do. |

Yeah, you're like the third person to suggest him paying evenly or more than I am, hah...
The real kicker is how defensive and angry he gets about things. We've never had a bad bout in like the ~10 years I've known him, but he can be very hotheaded and incredibly defensive, which I really saw when I did point some stuff out in the early months we've been here. So for now... trying to give it a few days to cool off myself, without letting it go completely, because holy shittles something has to be said. I'm just kind of speechless it's like he didn't even notice how much I cleaned over the weekend. It's not like I'm OCD or insane about this stuff, but a lot of it just seems like common sense to me. |

Tack on some extra money and label it for cleaning services. If he is going to treat you like his maid, he better fucking pay you for it.

That sounds like my roommate. He makes pizza and leaves it lying around(my pizza, mind you) so I have to buy more for myself because it goes bad when he leaves it lying around. We use paper plates specifically because of him, so I don't have to clean up anything more after him. His room looks like your roommates, my room is nice and organized like it should be.
I can't stand people who don't clean up after themselves. |

Well it's been over a month and yeah, the situation hasn't improved at all. He still talks about getting this and that, never does, etc. I never do the dishes anymore though, I put my stuff directly in the dishwasher, so he can deal with the mountains in the sinks.
Also we keep our food and stuff separate, but I know he's tries to "secretly" use some of my stuff off and on. Well one time wasn't so secretive, I noticed day by day an entire NyQuil bottle of mine just flat out emptied. This morning I got up expecting a full glass of this weird Lactoid chocolate milk I checked out and yeah, there was like a drop left. We know to keep our stuff separate, but I almost find it more insulting and annoying when it's like he tries to be sneaky about it like I'm stupid and leaves bits of stuff left that aren't even worth it. Frustrating... |

ah yes... roommates. The beginnings of tearing a friendship apart because you're not married to each other.
You know how I got my first roommates? An ad in the newspaper. (Last edited by Sorcha Rohan on 05-04-13 03:03 AM) |

How'd that go? I know a friend that does the same via FB and stuff, lol.
I think the middle ground would be ideal. Someone you somewhat know and can trust, but also not a best friend you've known for 10+ years (my situation). So yeah basically everyone has said the same thing and have lost friendships over this. I better get out while I can! It's just double the awkward since we work full time at the same place and have nearly the same damn schedule, it feels like I get a break when he's not around (which is rare with us both being kind of solitary), that probably sums it up that I need to get out. And the more I think about it, the more I don't want a roommate at all anymore. I could budget things out and get by myself, but yeah it'd be a lot harder financially. But maybe I'd be happier anyways. Think I just completely need my own space right now. Originally I figured, I've already been off and on lonely enough as it is thesedays so it'd currently be bad if I were alone, but now I'm just thinking screw that. I'm always very environment influenced, half my family were a depressed mess and now my current roommate is pretty much no different. It's a horrible excuse but I often feel like his lack of motivation to do anything whatsoever rubs off a lot on me. So if I get a place by myself, I'd be more intolerant to the loneliness and would probably finally do something about it and get out more. Also I'd probably get a pet or two. |
