I'm quite a bit behind in this one, but I saw "Guardians of the Galaxy" a couple weeks ago. I liked it a lot better than the few comics I've read for it.

Isn't the soundtrack, like, the best thing ever?

Last movie I saw was Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker, it's a short animated film that gives backstory for the character Cassandra. Very interesting to see Dragon Age anime.

Before that, I think it was The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, which was an enjoyable film.

I was sick this whole past week, so I took full advantage of the bed and watched movies galore for once. My choice... slashers! Lol, yeah I think these are a guilty pleasure of mine because I legitimately enjoy a lot of them. A few years back I ran through the Elm Street movies, but I still wanted to tackle some of the other big ones...

Friday the 13th 2-X!
(I had seen the original prior)

Ah yeah Jason!

I would say overall I liked 3, 4, and 6 the most by a good bit. Those were the legit ones that handled the formula well, had some likeable characters, great kills and good pacing. 2 was decent, it felt a lot like the first movie all over again but a bit better. The final stretch was great though and I liked bag head Jason a lot actually. The music in this one was probably the best, the score was really good.

5 basically stems over some pissed off axe wielding lunatic killing a kid because he offered him a chocolate bar. From there... this movie was a mess with a god awful "twist" ending.

7 was terrible as well, with the esper girl. What the hell? Yeah. Jason looked really cool in this one though, great outfit and the chain around his neck that tied him down at the end of 6 was a nice touch for this one.

8, Jason Takes Manhattan was longer than the others for no reason. This was more like Jason on a Boat. But, overall it featured a lot of Jason and was all around pretty fun when I look back on it. Not bad.

9, Jason Goes to Hell is probably my least favorite. I've seen better sci-fi originals.

Jason X... good lord, was this the Power Rangers version of Alien? Damn it was bad, but you know what? Alien Resurrection is worse. At least I got some laughs out of this one.

I jumped over to Child's Play 1-2 in the midst of all this. I always hated the idea of Chucky even as a kid, I used to think "Give me a bat and I'll kill it", haha. But then I heard he has a great voice actor with awesome performances that makes him a cool character and... people were right. He's like another Freddy, just a fun insane character to laugh at. These two were both pretty enjoyable.

I rewatched The Thing again as well, always been a huge fan of this one. This was my first time seeing it in hi def I believe and damn, the BD release is fantastic. Outside of maybe one slightly serious moment or two, it's a practical effects masterpiece. Amazing.

Next up, the Halloween series? Seems like this could be the worst venture... so I watched 2, which I hear John Carpenter co-wrote, and I didn't even like this one much when some do. So this must be a bad sign for the rest of the series to me haha. I think the first is a suspenseful classic, but yeah. 2 just didn't do much for me.

The last and quite possibly the best movie I watched this week though?...

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE! Holy crap, how is this from 1974?

Movie blew my face off. I'd even put it above the original Halloween. Maybe even The Thing? It completely caught me off guard, I didn't think it'd be that amazing and age that well. The atmosphere was so damn good and the music was so not-70's. It was amazing to see how this has influenced... everything? I really can't say enough good things about this. Leatherface nonchalantly hanging that girl on the hook and walking away like it was natural... things like that are far creepier than any of the kills in the slashers. On that note, I wouldn't even call this one of those... this is legit horror. Amazing stuff.

It actually was, it was a joint venture by Bioware and FUNimation. It is probably the only anime that I have watched in English over Japanese because I was hoping that they would use the voice actors from the game... I need to go back and watch it in Japanese now.

You can check out more information on it here. I don't know if it is up on YouTube, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I don't care what most of the world tends to say about this movie... you take out the Mario names and have a pretty imaginative out there pseudo fantasy/cyberpunk adventure. I've always liked this movie growing up, finally got around to getting it on DVD for a rewatch... it's probably been a decade since I've seen it. And I still really enjoyed it. It's so damn weird and out there, has some of the closest aesthetics to Blade Runner out there, a great cast in admittedly hilarious roles (never realized Dennis Hopper here is so Dr Evil) and yeah. I just can't really fathom how so many rage "never should have been made". What plot or idea would have made a better Mario movie? lmao. It's not Mario and I don't care, it's fun stuff.

The DVD release is hilariously bad, you can just tell people don't want this preserved. Video quality looks like a straight VHS transfer. I had to max out the volume on my TV to hear anything, put it up to 100, when I usually have the sound around 20 for everything else. The aspect ratio was 4:3, but the video is cropped to widescreen, so I had to manually change my TV to make it fit a little better. First time I've had to do that. Hot damn, what a hilariously bad release.

As cheesy and it could be at times, I never hated on it.

Finally sat down and watched "Fury," that WWII movie starring Brad Pitt. It's pretty good. Comparable to "Das Boot," but with an American tank instead of a German submarine.

Randomly watched the new Robocop since it was free on Amazon Prime and I was... pleasantly surprised? I'd hardly call it good and hardly call it bad. Probably a solid 6/10 or so. Definitely had some fun moments and wasn't all that bad, but it did not need to be a full 2 hours, 90 minutes would have been nicer. Probably won't be memorable at all unlike the original, but yeah. There's worse.

Overall though, it just made me want to watch the new Dredd again, which I thought was pretty legit. Too bad it doesn't sound like we'll get that sequel because of its poor performance.

Avengers Age of Ultron... pretty fun! Fun is the word, just like the first one. Sometimes I'm picky about the superhero movies, but I dig these. I do wish Ultron was a little more sadistic, he was quite jokey actually but... Whedon humor is expected I guess.

Speaking of that, isn't Whedon backing out of doing the next one?

Not to be the general malcontent, but I hope so. I'm not a fan of his and "Civil War" was a HUUUUUUGE and rather serious event in the Marvelverse. I'd rather it wasn't turned into a snarkfest.

Haven't seen "Age of Ultron" yet (or many of the other comic book films that came out in the past few years outside of "Guardians of the Galaxy.")

I was rather curious to know how they represented Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver without calling them mutants or mentioning their Fox-owned father.

Yeah, this was a little too slappy at times, some of the humor felt forced.

I still need to see Winter Soldier, a lot of my friends claim it's one of the best Marvel movies.

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were both handled pretty well.

My mistake, just remembered "Civil War" is supposed to be the third Cap movie, so that wouldn't have been Whedon anyway.

I ended up pirating it, just to see what they did with Wanda and Pietro. I was amused by Marvel just not mentioning much of their history more than a story about them hiding under a bed as kids. I ended up really liking them, despite disliking most of the rest of the Avengers.

Anyway, I couldn't shake the whole "Ultron is just Skynet re-skinned" thoughts I had throughout.

Yeah Ultron was kind of my main complaint, especially with James Spader doing it... could have been a cooler villain.

I'm kind of worried about Jurassic World, it looks like Michael Bay got involved somehow. Looks so over the top.

I enjoyed Age of Ultron... not much of an age to be honest... but it was a good movie. And while I actually enjoyed James Spader as Ultron, I do agree that it was not as dark and sadistic as I was expecting.

I think that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were handed very well, given what they had to do. A bit of their backstory was covered in last week's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to explain how they got their powers (experiments by von Strucker with alien blood).

Well. Here comes the fanboygirl rage.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHCCK!!!!!

They're MUTANTS. They were born that way. Their daddy is MAGNETO. It would have been fine to just not say it. But that just comes off like they're painting themselves into a corner should Marvel ever acquire the X-Men again.

Well, yeah, we all know that. But because Fox seems like they are never giving up the rights to X-Men, they needed to come up with something. They never give any details about their father or how they were literally the only two subjects to ever survive the experiments, so they left a door cracked there, I think.

I would say it's a shame... well it still really is...

But I really enjoyed First Class myself. You guys?

At least Sony and Marvel are dividing that wall and they've been talking about bringing Spiderman into the Marvel Studioverse, I think?
