| Wow, that is kinda sad. I am glad you got your money back at least... and that it was only $20.
I still need to post all the pictures of the DC trip on Facebook, but I have to say that one of the things I really enjoyed was going to Ford's Theater on the anniversary of the Lincoln Assassination. It was a really neat experience, and even though it was crowded as hell and my feet were killing me (shoe issues), it was one of the neatest moments of the trip to see artifacts from that night. They have his greatcoat on display and you can still see the bloodstains on it. Couldn't take pictures, obviously, though. |

| Super envious you got to see Lincoln's blood on something!! Freaking cool.
I know there's a place near Ford's Theater that claims they have Lincoln's last bowel movement. 
Bran and I did a tour of medieval walled cities in the Mediterranean last month. I think we visited at least 30 churches. |

| I did not see anything making that claim, granted I don't really know if I would have wanted to see it.
Even if there were a lot of churches, still kinda envious that you got to see medieval stuff. |

| Today was the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt. I've been blasting Agincourt Carol and the St. Crispin's Day speech from "Henry V" all the live long day between things we're doing.

| Oh, I see the Lincoln "log" was supposedly auctioned off a few years ago when the museum it was in closed.
Took Stitch to the Getty Villa for tea yesterday for his birthday since he'd never before been. Seriously depressing since we're in a drought and most of the fountains (including the iconic one in the garden) were dry. The Getty Center's also dry, except for the waterfall in the garden, which isn't as strong as it used to be. |

| That really is sad. I cannot remember if they have an impluvium inside the atrium or not... I don't think they did, or I would at least hope that was filled.
I miss the Getty Villa. The Getty as well, but especially the Villa. So... in other news and affronts to history... pyramid grain silos.... wtf? |

| Huh, will have to look into him. The extent of my listening to podcasts is just listening to whatever's on NPR, which does play a lot of stories about history on shows like Radiolab and occasionally Snap Judgement.

| Kept forgetting to post this, but they did a radar scan of Shakespeare's grave and finally revealed that his skull appears to be missing.
His grave is well-noted for bearing a sign reading, "Good friend, for Jesus' sake forbear, to dig the dust enclosed here. Blessed be the man that spares these stones, And cursed be he that moves my bones." It's suspected the skull was stolen as a drunken bet to see if someone could take a piece of him and survive the curse. |

| I'm not too into podcasts or videos, but I love reading the stuff. I've been getting into ancient literature the last few months with Homer and the Aeneid. I read the Argonautika too, but frankly I was really disappointed. I felt like it told just half a story and then sort of went nowhere.
I'm looking at getting Herodotus's Histories as my next big work. Anybody here read it? |

| Dang, I really really liked the Illiad. I really don't mind knowing the ending though, considering that the poem itself basically says what the ending is repeatedly, the whole time through. What I liked though was the growing sense of dread as we got closer and closer to what happens. For me, it was way less about the destination, and way more about the journey and what philosophical points the Iliad was trying to share with us. Same thing with the Odyssey too. | |||

| I tried watching Magical Egypt on youtube after hearing about it on Joe Rogan's podcast, but two episodes felt like enough haha. It was pretty hokey and a lot of the guy just talking, as in the camera was just there filming him. Wasn't quite what I hoped for.
Egypt is one of the most fascinating things in the world to me though. Any other good documentaries out there? Maybe on youtube? Chernobyl makes me really curious about Russian history too. | It's the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's passing.
Whether or not you believe he truly authored all those plays, his name is stamped all over a legacy that shall last 'til the end of the world and possibly beyond (don't know what they stuck on that record they shot into space in case aliens find it.) | Wow, she is so young! And I think that there was some Shakespeare on that record if memory serves correctly.
The main reason that I haven't finished the Illiad (or started the Odyssey) is because I am not sure about the translation that I have... and I am really picky about translation. My ancient history professor swore by the Penguin versions of classic books, however, so I tend to trust those... but they never seem to have them at a good price. |

| Since my life pretty much sucked during the work week for the past month or so, I pretty much went through the weekends with this complete voracious need to get out of the house the whole time.
Last week, packed the days with running to museums. Went to the Getty for the cave temple exhibit and then saw "Cymbeline" performed in the park. The next day went to the Bowers Museum for the mummies exhibit, which was really cool since they had way more from other places that I expected. It wasn't just Egyptian and Peruvian. Got really obsessed with going to the Shakespeare shows this season, even paying for it. Bum bum BUUUUUUUMMMMM!!! Among the ones we saw a couple times was "Richard III," the final part in the Wars of the Roses.
