This one's in the process of a rewrite...

Boundaries Unseen
By: CIAHacker/Zabuza
Part of the Paradox Island Series

Chapter One: Solaris

On days that would make even the suns flail about in shame of its own existence, Rosy decided that venturing into the teeming land of Edge City’s Central Plaza would be less painful than sitting through another one of Lee’s rantings. Anything to get away from Lee’s incessant random drone of things from the great beyond of Edge City International, and his dealings with the many denizens of Earth II. While venturing out into the intense heat of high noon with Earth II’s three suns would greatly affect her skin’s well-being, she nonetheless felt that trekking through the shade of the metallic trees of business plaza would lessen any potential damage.
Business Park Plaza’s immense structures helped to add shade despite the positions of the three suns. Heat from these glowing orbs was not too intense, but for Rosy’s species of meta-beings, it seemed like strolling though any daylight produced similarities to strolling through the gaseous surface of the most powerful sun. Rosy had a mental mission that day, however wonderful it would have been to postpone it until nightfall, which compelled her to wander stealthily about the shadows. Since Central Plaza lies on the north side of the Business Park Plaza, a meandering stroll amongst the manmade structures became excruciatingly bearable.
“I could drive you there,” started Lee, “but I know how your kind hates our tech.”
“It’s not that, and I appreciate the offer,” Rosy stopped for a brief moment to watch a bird land on the twenty-third story windowsill before taking off for the next building. Bright arid hews of orange and red streamed through the gaps between the surround buildings of the university, “but I’d prefer to walk even if my quest takes me through business plaza.”
The second sun now began to set just beyond the north horizon, but nightfall in the city proved to be a greater danger than a pre-dusk walk through the plaza. While her species’ host-beings were naturally mathematical and scientific warriors, the blend of Earth-human DNA with Nisian strengths produced a highly intelligent, naturalistic warrior with a lack in sufficient epidermal protection from the suns’ ultraviolet rays. These meta-beings, like a few others on Earth II, thrive in nightlife. Rosy just did not like being around her own, or rather they did not like her.
“Why central plaza? I heard the Nisian j’aghul trees are dropping their fruits at this time of the year,” Lee inquired as they rode the turbolift down to the subterranean parking. Lee, a Eckta'arian-human meta-species blessed with excellent dexterity, agility, intelligence, and language comprehension but lacking the physical strength to engage in any physical combat—an engineer by trade—examined the contacts panel while humming an ancient ballad from the now extinct Earth Prime civilizations.
“She’s there. I have to go to her tonight, or I’ll lose her…,” she paused to watch Lee’s hands trace the outlines of the contacts; the tune he hummed sounding familiar.
"Listen, mind if I tagged along with you today? I have to be at HQ later tonight anyway, and central plaza is on the way. No shuttle, promise.” Lee watched the ground quickly approaching towards them.
"While I’d appreciate your company, I’d prefer to travel alone. Go home; they’ll need you at the station tomorrow.” Rosy watched the second sun set beyond the administration buildings. Forty minutes.
The final sun setting in less than an hour with central plaza an hour’s walk away, but at least she would only be exposed to one-third of Solaris’ rays.
Rosy’s long coat hung just above the sidewalk swaying in the warm breeze artificially funneled by the surrounding buildings. A concealed Eckta’arian blade gleamed from beneath her coat, and a poised hint of confidence shielding an underlying anxiety to sunlight and wonderful beings of the night.
“Cho’gk t’egh pa’ach!” Rosy stopped in her tracks. She recognized the harsh voice calling from behind. Whom is he calling half-breed? she thought. She addressed the being while resting her left hand on her dakt’ehg dagger.
“I travel with no one’s permission. My destination is not your concern.” Rosy slowly turned to face the cloaked Paradox Island soldier.
“One must not travel into the central plaza tonight. No one travels into central plaza tonight.” The soldier charged his phaser rifle, but kept his weapon poised in his hands.
“How fortunate. I am ‘no one’, and I shall be traveling into central plaza regardless of Island curfews and regulations,” Rosy expertly revealed her concealed blade, “even if that means going through you.” She turned to walk away towards the great sculpture fountain in the center of business plaza.
“You’ve been warned. We’ll meet again.” The soldier tapped a few contacts on his arms, and transported away. Rosy resumed her walk down the granite steps towards the cool flowing water. A pulsating multi-hewed orb rose from the water’s edge and held position before him beckoning him to touch its holographic colors.
“Neh’k t’ogh ch’ak t’egh mohg. Central plaza cha’hg me’nogh to’egl,” the words flowing as fluidly as the water below the orb. Loosely translated in Terran, Eckta’arian produced this, “Half-breeds we are not. Central plaza awaits your arrival.”
“Harmonious multi-species existence on a utopian structure under Paradoxian law, yet the full species cannot embrace the meta-species. If only my fellow Eckta’arians were further compassionate than current states suggest. E’nogh hat’ogh neh’k t’egh mogh n’eh. Blessed and pure are the half-breeds of the world.”
The orb faded and disappeared into the flowing ebbs of the fountain. Rosy glanced beyond the buildings towards the towering trees of central plaza just a few blocks away. She recalled a saying from ancient Earth Prime about weirdoes only coming out at night. Whoever coined the phrase could not have possibly come any closer to the truth.

Ha, that is funny at the last. I noticed that you missed a change of 'him' to 'her' near the beginning... and what about the "I must go to her" part... you leaving that unchanged for a reason? You can answer that in the discussion thread.

She turned away from the fountain starting on her trek towards Central Plaza, a few hours away from the cresting of the first sun over the horizon. Her thoughts filled with images of her beloved Taroxian sitting at the security desk of the Centurian Apartments oblivious to her quest that night. Her flowing hair resting gently on her shoulders as she walked through the crisp, cold night air past the harsh cold building of Business Park Plaza, past the towering abodes of busy Edge City life, towards the heavily guarded enormous trees of Central Plaza.

It was that time of year again, shortly before the annual showers, when the Nisian trees shed their enormous oranges requiring Paradoxian government to control access to the Plaza to prevent any injuries from the massive fruits. Each year, this restriction severed traffic flow from Edge City to Central Plaza to the majestic regions of Palau Town. Tracy, the self-proclaimed sorceress she believed herself to be, had left a few weeks earlier leaving her apprentice, Rosy, to tend to things in Oakridge by herself. Tracy, with inherent psychic abilities far supassing those of the long-gone Terran mediums, had ceased communications a few days earlier leaving an eerily aura of danger in her final communication. Rosy felt it was best to find her training master as it seemed that Tracy may have encountered a few obstacles she may not be able to handle.

Rosy's cloak swayed slowly with each step she took, the sound of her soft footsteps echoing off the walls of the building. Isis shone directly above, with Usirus just beyond the main moon, the moonlight filtering through the gray mist of midnight around the shadows of the buildings. She walked towards the Night Squadron barricade ahead, undaunted by the heavily armed soldiers, intent of traversing the Plaza that night.

Ah, that answers some questions and takes away the mystery of Tracy so much. I am indeed intrigued now.

A few nights before, before Tracy had left, she was introduced via communications to one of the more prominent Naturists of the planet, G'ret from Leikos VI. She remembered his short hair and flowing white robes, his piercing silvered eyes, and deep mysterious voice. He had arrived to Xodan Flats a few nights ago, and was making his trek towards Palau Town a few days later. Tracy had agreed to meet up with him in Edge City before continuing towards Palau Town, and Rosy had decided that the man held an air of something that she simply could not trust.

"You seem concerned over something...what is that?" G'ret asked while leaning into his communicator device, a few candles illuminating his otherwise darkened face. Rosy stirred at her desk as Tracy had taken to preparing her belongings in another room.

"N-no reason," she avoided eye contact with G'ret for fear that he would have been able to decipher her intentions from her gaze, "I'm just a little protective. Have we met before?" She fiddled with a few parchments sent from Ryan on the table that night, her gaze landing on the picture of her Taroxian, Tom, that she kept on the table.

G'ret tilted his head upward slightly, his silvered eyes glistening under his candlelight, the flames dancing in the depth of his eyes, "Perhaps not in the incarnation or lifetime, but I do believe that we have met before. Perhaps as a brief acquaintance to one of your friends," he paused then shifted his gaze to stare intently into the communications device, "Perhaps as a brief moment on some morning with your friend Crystle?"

Rosy immediately shifted her eyes to meet his, her attention focused on his words. The way he had pronounced "Crystle" implied a malicious intent towards his actions. He blinked once, then shifted backwards in his chair, "Ah, I see. She's dear to you," he moved away from the device speaking from another room, "tell Tracy that I shall see her tomorrow."

That was three days ago. She stood a couple meters from the barricade in the shadows of the buildings observing the Night Squadron officers hover about their HyWire vehicles. She removed a small device from her pocket, depressed the center contact, and hurled the device towards the vehicles. It bounced, and rolled to a stop just in front of the two main vehicles. The guards walked towards the device, rifles drawn, watching the small cube blink intermittently. The vehicles awoke from their standby positions, turning to face the guards before igniting their engines to full power. She closed her eyes, thinking of her Taroxian, and stepped closer to the edge of the building.

The device stopped its pulsing, then imploded on itself leaving behind two HyWire vehicles, lights all on, sitting in front of her, the Night Squadron officers bloodily wedged underneath their vehicles. Thank you, Lee, she thought as she walked around the vehicles past the barricades towards the dark center of the Central Plaza.

So the Venitian has a name at last... interesting way of putting it.

And now I am really intrigued as to what Rosy is after.

Central Plaza sat in an eery quiet. An occasional rustling broke the silence followed by a loud thumping upon the ground. She could sense the presence of the trees shedding their fruits, knowing that she was safe from the large oranges--sizes upwards to the diameter of a basketball with the weight of a watermelon.

Her sword glistened in the sparse beams of moonlight from Isis and, in the distance, Usiris. She had wondered, on her way through the plaza, what Pat had been doing the night before in the plaza fountain. But, this was not her current concern.

Her personal communications device began to ring. She removed it from a pocket, activating the device and continued walking.

"Hi hon," her Taroxian's voice filled the otherwise empty Central Plaza, "Pat said he saw you yesterday."

"Yes, he did. How is work going?" she paused briefly to sit below a tree.

"Fine. I'm training a new guy tonight--a Venetian."

Her eyes went wide and her heart sank, "Really? Who might that be?"

"I don't think you've met him yet. He calls himself Jayarre," he spoke softly, obviously tired from the beginning preparations for his shift at the apartment buildings near downtown Edge City.

She sat in contemplation for a few moments. "Listen, hon, I've got to go. I have a few matters I must tend to, but I'll see you again in a few days, okay?"

He nodded, and she terminated the call. "Jayarre," she whispered to herself while slowly walking through the plaza towards the gravel and dust road leading up towards the Erdu Mountains and Meridian City.

So, is Jayarre a false name or did the character get a name change?

Jayarre is a secondary character, no name change. But, it's been so long that I don't remember. I can't even find where I kept my notes on this anymore. Probably lost in the reformat of my Toughbook.

Anyway, I'm phasing this story out. Rosy will get written into one of the main stories, as this one really serves no purpose to the main storyline anymore.
