...Is perhaps the greatest side-scrolling backtracking game in existance, next to Super Metroid.

I bought this game yesterday, and you'll love this ...
For $15.99! =D

Yup. I bought it at a "Collectibles" store, where they obviously have rare things and games, and I saw this game for $19.99, on top of that, they had a 25% of videogames sale going on that night, so the price dropped.

It's in great condition too. The only bad thing is it's newer, so it's got the "Greatest Hits" case, but oh well.

They also had Castlevania IV for the SNES, but I've already played quite a bit of that one my computer, and I've heard SoTN is considered to be the best CV game out there; and so far I can say that's very true. And I didn't have too much money, so I went with SoTN.

The music in this game really gets it going, it's defininently top notch, and even delivers quite an atmospheric feel to the game even though it's mainly 2D.

Very good game. I've been wanting it for a long time now, and for $16 ... I'd say I'm one happy man.

As far as SotN goes, it's not my favorite game in the series, CV 3 is. I've had the opportunity to play each and every version of CV games that exist, while it is the prettiest 2-D CV, it started a nasty trend of having a second (or for the Japanese Saturn game NitM, which had a playable Maria, a third character) character with absolutely no story line. Even Rondo of Blood is better from what time I've put into it.

The game is innovative though and started the trend of Castleroid games we see now. I still own the original SotN I preordered long ago, and got on it's release date.

Hmm, I find SotN to be my alltime fav CV game out there. Lement of Innocence being second.

I love the fact you play as Alucard, a half vampire, whom uses Dracula's abilites, and your not stuck with a damn whip ^^;

Good luck finding the Sword Familiar. No walkthrough in the world can tell you where it is x-x.

Sword Familar? Yep, probably that 4% I'm needing.

Yeah, I'm at about 196% completion right now. I'm pretty sure I've covered the entire map, except for that "one room".

It's the room with the spinning bolts, and those flying blue-yellow heads that usually turn you into stone if they hit you. Well, there's 4 wheels that apparently you can spin them, and I'm sure they unlock the final area that I need to explore.

I'm clueless as to what I need to do there though, I've tried almost everyting.

Besides this, I recently also bought Super Castlevania IV, for the SNES for $15. Definently worth it I'd say. Even though I'm more of a fan for the Castleroid-styled games, it's still good, and has great music.

So far though I think I'd like to get Dracula X, from what I've played I like it more than Super CV. Besides, you get to play as Richter himself.

But yeah, the CV series is definently a series I'm glad I didn't completely miss out on, now I'm just catching up with it.

That little room took me hours to figure out how to do. Heres a tip, In the clock gears, spin them untill you hear a click (Can't remember if it's 3 clicks, or just one.) on ALL the gears. the door will open.

Sadly, it opens to just a usless room with a few usless items. (Like the Sun amulet. Just like the Moon amulet. "Powers up during the Night." "Powers up during the day")

The Sword familiar is apperently hiding in a breakable corner of a room, like some food is found. Im only told this, since my friend found it by accedint by using "Soul Steal"

Dang. So I guess you yourself don't have the Sword Familar?

I saw it mentioned in a few FAQ's, like a trick to get 214% (something around that), and others. But yeah, what you said is true, I didn't see a "Get Sword Familar" FAQ.

Thats what sucks, not a single freakin FAQ tells you HOW to get it. They only tell you WHAT to do with it.

My friend told me that it's hiding in the halls around the Vampire boss. (When you find him, he's sitting at a table, then transform s into a big walking creature)

The Familiar itself is fairly weak, but when you max it out, you can equip it. It's apperenly the strongest weapon in the game. (Acctually equip it, like any other sword.)

Gah, I just can't remember where that is. I looked around for it yesterday, but didn't find anything.

Where exactly is it? Like, what area of the map, and is it in the Reversed Castle? (I thought it was in the Normal one)

I've pretty much just beaten it with Richter though, man it's fun to play as him since he has all those specials, "Hydro Storm!". But his lack of health sucks.

I FOUND IT!

I found the Sword familiar!!!

Ok, when you get to the middle of the map, you'll find the boss wizard. (He's a vampire) When you first see him, he offers you a seat at his table, then starts throwing energy skulls at you. When you waste him half way, he turns into some weird green titan.

Anyway. Theres a massive courtyard right before him. theres 5 diffrent paths. you enter the courtyard from the upper right door. right below the door is a savepoint, and theres a path in the lower right (I think.) to the upper left is the path leading to the wizard vampire boss, and theres a path at the lower left.

take that path.

Keep going left through the dungeon looking hallway untill you enter a marble looking hallway. Start attacking the left side of the ceiling in that section of the hallway. It will open a path thats litturally right under that boss room.

Thats where the Sword Familiar is! XDXD

I'm still a little clueless.

Normal castle, or reversed?

I'm thinking you're talking about the big room, where there's two Horsemen riding along the bottom of it, and there's that Golden water fountain. You have to go through the "upper left" path through the clock room to get to this large area.

That's where I think you're talking about, gah, it's been too long.

Sorry, It's clear in my head, let me try to illaberate(sp?) a bit.

Look on your map. There is a hallway above the clockroom. head over too it.

At the far right of that hallway, there a small hole in the ceiling. Only the Gravity Boots, and the Bat form can get up there. Along the path up is three items.

When your at the top of that pathway up, you appear in a dungeon like grey stone hallway, where there are spikes. To the left of that hallway is the massive courtyard that I'm talking about.

And I think theres a couple of horsemen down there Can't remember.

But in that courtyard, the upper left door leads to a path connected to the boss room with that wizard. (This is the wrong path for the sword familiar.)

Yea, find that courtyard, and my last post will make sense.

Yeah, I think I know where you're talking about.

So, is the Familar as good as it sounds?

It rotates when it attacks, follows you around, and any damage it does is doubled (Since the damage counter pops up twice)

At lv 100, the sword familiar becomes a useable weapon. Rumored to be the ultimate weapon in that game.

Haha vampire wizard, that would be Count Orlox, right hand man of Dracula. As for castle completion percentage I have a friend who works with glitchers and they've neared the 400% mark using glitching techniques.

I've since retired the game but beat the game with both Al and Richter, and in the Saturn NitM (Nocturne in the Moonlight, the Japanese name for SotN) Maria is also playable.

Yeah, I read up on the Saturn version, and apparently it even has some "bonus" areas that the PSX version didn't get. Kind of dissapointing.

But yeah, I've got about 200%+ with Alucard (since I found the Sword Familar finally), and 170% or so with Richter.

Personally, it was a lot more fun playing as Richter. More challenging, and I just love his Special attacks with the powerup items.
