NEW YORK--A new rule is in the works that would bar gay men from serving as anonymous sperm donors. It would apply to any man who has engaged in homosexual sex in the previous five years. The Food and Drug Administration is rejecting calls to scrap the provision, saying that such men collectively pose a higher-than-average risk of carrying the AIDS virus. Critics claim the FDA is stigmatizing all homosexual men, when it should instead be adopting a screening process that focuses on high-risk sexual behavior by any would-be donor. While there's disagreement over whether the guideline regarding homosexual men will have the force of law, most doctors and clinics are expected to observe it. |

| Well, I would understand if they wouldn't allow a guy to be a sperm donor if he had AIDS, but that's not a very good excuse overall, because not all homosexuals have AIDS. | |||

| many of you know my stance on homosexuality.... but this is just stupid.... at least these guys can contribute to someone else's baby even if they themselves can't have one yet....
screen for aids and high risk sexual activity.... but don't be prejudice about it just because they are gay.... it's just sperm.... |

| Wow, even geeogree agrees it's stupid (no offense to you geeogree, but like you said, I know your stance).
I mean, honestly, wouldn't it just be easier to screen for AIDS? This is just blatent discrimination against homosexuals that could still pose a threat to society... so they ban gays from donating sperm, but they still don't screen for AIDS because, in their minds no straight man could possibly have the virus... so what happens when some twisted bastard that is bitter because he has the disease and likes to spread it around so others feel his pain and die decides to donate sperm to further harm people? Guys like that do exist you know. Honestly, the stupidity and homophobia of Americans makes my soul hurt. |
