I may not get to see this in time, but....

HOW DO YOU GET RID OF STAGE FRIGHT???

I'm in an 8 person classical guitar ensemble. We had a concert today, & Pockets is my witness. I was SHAKING uncontrollably for the entire first song!! We perform again tomorrow night, in front of a LOT more people. We were invited to play at the Cal State Fullerton Guitar Festival.

EEK!!! I'm really nervous.

Oh, & please don't say imagine everyone in their underwear. Last time someone said that I almost spit soda all over my computer (my mom).

You did fine today, you'll do fine tomorrow. Just take deep breaths and picture the Poxy Boggards singing "I Wear No Pants"

What time is it tomorrow anyway?

Just take a few deep breaths and just imagine your friends there, nobody else...or someone in a chicken suit. Either one works.

I'm sorry I won't be abe to go. Stupid work...

breathe in and out through your nose as fast and deeply as you can (if you do it right you should snot a little and look like a hyperventilating maniac so my recommmendation is to find an empty bathroom stall) this is a yoga technique called "dragon breath" and it will work out your ribs and diaphragm, this will force blood to your brain and it should take care of the shaking and help you think a little clearer

Breathing in and out, taking calm deep breaths has never done a thing for me. I used to get stage fright when I started doing plays and musicals at school. I found the best thing to do is take a jog around the block before you have to preform, get your friends to tell you jokes, laugh and try and forget about the people out there.

And if they don't appeal to you, don't look at the crowd, look at the very back of the room at the wall and picture yourself preforming in front of a mirror or something

I hope they helped, good luck with your performance

Yah, I'm with Des, the taking deep breaths and stuff...never worked for me either. Basically what Dessee said works for me as well. Talk to your friends and stuff....do anything like that to relax you. Also, if it's something that you truly love...which I think it is, because you're nervous. Even if you were playing and didn't really like it, you prolly wouldn't care enough to have stage fright...

So, assuming that it's something you truly love, my advice to you is to just play. It's not one of those "sounds easier than it is" either...for me it isn't at least, as well as other people. Just look at your music and play. Have fun and just enjoy yourself.

Ah... A Stage fright... something people are afraid of...

It isn't that scary through. Just think as this. You are preforming to yourself. Close your eyes, and pretend that there are noone there. Just pretend that you are standing there alone, knowing every line to play.

Usually it is alright to get nervous but when you get out on the stage and start playing for real, you won't even know you will be nervous. Just get on that stage, pretend you are practicing for youself, alone in the room, and play it out. It is alright to be nervous once in a while...

Heck... I remember there was as least a half of students who suffer a stage fright in a classroom in one of my project. They did pretty well and got a A for their performance too, so you will do as well as I see those stage fright student.

Trust me... Just think there is no one who are smart enough to listen and only clap afterward the music end. Think of them as a dummy!

I DID GOOD!!! I'm so happy. Our group did amazingly well, & I made only a couple of mistakes. AND I didn't make a face when I messed up (I have that bad habit). I didn't get AS scared as I usually do.

Darth Katana, I'm sure that is the reason I get nervous. I LOVE playing guitar. It's definitely my favorite hobby. For once I found something I'm pretty good at. I love it.

I'm so glad you did well! =D

I know all about stage fright... there are two ways people go about it when performing: and that is to either forget about what they're going to do and goof off a little bit... or focus completely on the task ahead, and take deep breaths. But you don't really need to be frightened... the people are there to see you do well, and are supporting you. ^-^
