Here we are!
... shit, I lost my old GSC team. Fearow, Dragonite, Espeon, Lanturn... and I forgot the rest. Damn it. I do know that Lanturn was a big Special Attacker, and I had an Anti-Mewtwo of some sort - probably Houndoom. (Last edited by Tamarin Calanis on 07-15-05 01:11 PM) |

Lanturns are rather mediocre, Water/Electric isn't too sharp, but it is fun to fry other waters, but what's the point, when type matching come into play?
Fearow is about as bad as Pidgeot. Stick with Dodrio if you absolutely have to use a Normal/Flying. Dragonite, as stated before, Has high Specials, but crap moves to back them up. An Ice Beam from a Lapras = Dead Dragonite, OHKO. Espion is basically an inferior Mewtwo. Why have hamburger when you can have steak? Houndoom is risky. Good Pokemon, but only if it's for a quick attack and nothing else. It's miserable defense is a liability, and a Mewtwo with Submission can make mincemeat out of it, especially if it attacks first. My Current team, right now (I restarted the Game) is as listed: Lapras (Ice Beam, Surf, Perish Song, Safeguard) Meganium: Razor Leaf, Giga Drain, Body Slam, Cut (planning on replacement) Nidoking: Earthquake, Ice Punch, Strength, Rock Smash (game purposes only) Electrode: Rollout, Explosion, Thunder, Flash Lugia: Fly (for transport only), Aeroblast, Psychic, Recover Snorlax: Body Slam, Curse, Rest, Ice Punch (+Leftovers) Alternate Team (UNDER CONSTRUCTION) Flareon: Shaddow Ball, Flamethrower, Earthquake, Body Slam Starmie: Surf, Psychic, Recover, Confuse Ray Marowak: Earthquake, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, Swords Dance Misdreavus: Perish Song, Destiny Bond, Hypnosis, Confuse Ray Tyranitar: Earthquake, Rockslide, Crunch, (Thunderpunch/Ice Punch) Mewtwo: Psychic, Submission, Recover, Counter (+ Focus Band. Explosion + Counter = ) |

Originally posted by ClockworkzBecause as I've said before, Mewtwo, Mew, Celebi, Lugia, Ho-oh, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Entei, Suicune, Raikou, Rayquaza, Kyogre, Groudon, Deoxys, and... wait, I think that's all of them. Anyway, they're banned in my matches. Of course, while I specified Houndoom as an 'Anti-Mewtwo', he's still good as a generic anti-psychic - and my friends back then loved their psychic types. |

I personally don't care for anything after 151, so I keep with the originals. Heres my usual team:
Mewtwo (Psycic) Charizard (Fire/Flying) Articuno (Ice/Flying) Zapdos (Electricity/Flying) Haunter(Ghost/Poison) - Gengar sucks ass Rydon (Rock/Ground) Backup -- Scyther (Grass/Flying) Gyrados (Water/Flying) Still have yet to meet someone who can beat my team. Mewtwo comes with basically everything, but when I'm done with him, he knows Barrier, Shadow Ball, Psycic, and Recover Charizard is for my fire perposes - Flamethrower, Sacred Fire, Fireblast, Hyper beam Articuno is one of my favs - Iceblast, blizzard, fly, ??? Zapdos - Thunder, Drill Peck, Fly, ??? Haunter - Lick, Shadow Ball, Night shade, Dream eater Rydon - Surf, Earthquake, horn drill, horn attack Backups -- Syther - Slash, Sword dance, Hyper beam, quick attack Gyrados - Hydro pump, Surf, Hyper beam, Ice beam. |

There is a problem with your Haunter, dream eater doesnt work without hypnosis, LOL. I have to say Gengar is better, but only if you beef him up with carbs, proteins, etc, then give him Quick Claw (i think that is what it is), and have him use Hypnosis, Dream Eater, then Lick (if he wakes up). MY usual team on G/S is this:
Mewtwo: Pysichic,Swift,Recover,Ice Beam (blizzard just plain out sucks, but Ice Beam can take out even the strongest Ice type, like Cloyster. Im thinking of taking out Swift for a Shadow Ball..) Typhlosion: Dynamic Punch,Fire Spin,Flame Thrower, Strength (i give it fire boosting item) Meganium: Razor Leaf, Cut, Leech Seed(for recovery purposes in a long match), ??? Skarmony: Steel Wing, Fly, Hyper Beam, Sky Attack (may get rid of that attack) Gengar: Hypnosis, Dream Eater, Shadow Ball, Night Shade(also may get rid of that one and add another Shadow Ball if i can. I boosted his stats up and also gave him a Quick Claw so he can hit with Hypnoisis right off the bat) Snorlax: Hyper Beam, Dynamic Punch, Rest, Hydro Pump(i follow the usual with him and equiped him with a Leftovers) Break down time for why they are on my team: Mewtwo: General bad ass. There has yet to been a real player that has level 100 pokemon to beat him. I sometimes give him the quick claw if i know im going against a Houndoom. Typhlosion: Why may you ask? Becuase he was my first pokemon I chose for the game. His stats are high, and with the combination of fire attacks and Dynamic Punch, he can handle water and ice types if he has to. Meganium: He is just a grass pokemon.. Every team needs atleast ONE, because they have alot of attacks that come in handy in a long battle. Skarmony: He is steel and flying, which you would think is horribly bad. Steel and Flying dont mix with Lightning, but his high def and Special def, plus pretty good speed means he can take out those pesky electric types. If he is in a bind, i can use fly, or wait and use Sky Attack to do a crap load of dmg. Gengar: He is one of my heavy hitters. I gave him a quick claw to hold, meaning he will almost always attack first. My strategy is to use Hypnosis first, then Dream Eat him. If he wakes up after that, i smash him with a shadow ball and they faint. I am thinking about using a Sneasle or Misdreaveus instead, but i have yet to catch one. Snorlax: You all know what he is for. He is my big defense and big attack guy. I think Snorlax would be the ONLY pokemon on my team that could take out my Mewtwo. I use Dynamic instead of Mega punch becuase although Mega has higher hit ratio, Dynamic has a much bigger dmg and effect. Rest is just a filler for now, im looking into a attack to use in its place. the Hydro Pump is there so i can fight Fire types with ease, and the Hyper Beam is a great attack to use with a Snorlax because the one turn liability with HB isnt a problem with Snorlax |

X-x, whoops, I ment hypnosis instead of Nightshade x-x.
Nightshade is a crappy attack that is only as powerful as your level. (lv 23 haunters do only 23 damage) Sneasle is a decent pokemon. Its a Dark/Ice type, which is extremly rare to see. His attacks are mostly light damage normal attacks, or dark attacks, so regardless, he'll only own the Psycics. On your snorlax, lose your dynamic punch, and replace it with Snore attack. That way you can still attack while sleeping, and when you wake up, you can crash again to regain power. |

A level 100 misdreveus sounds pretty good to use instead of a Haunter. I think in power, misdrevious is better, so if u were going to use Haunter, use Misdrevious. And can anyone tell me if Deoxys can be actually captured in the newer games? I dont know if he can be (like Mew, he cant be captured and he cant be found, yet he is a pokedex pokemon...)

Mew ~Can~ be found.
I don't know about Deoxy though. If you wanna know exactly how to catch Mew, just PM me. (No, it dosn't involve stupid tournaments, or gamesharks) |

Kaijin: I believe that you're referring to a glitch to capture Mew in Red and Blue. I don't know if it works in Yellow, and I know it doesn't in the others. Since the GBA games can't trade with teh GB/GBC games, that'd only help in R/B/Y/G/S/C...
Of course, those are pretty much the best ones anyway... Deoxys, if memory serves, requires an item that can't be obtained in the game. Same with Mew in FR/LG. And, uh... I was never big on Ghosts, so I wouldn't know; how the hell is Haunter better than Gengar? |

In all respects, Gengar is supririor to Haunter in stats, but Haunter just looks freakin cool. That, and I don't give a rip to have to trade him to someone to evolve him.
And yes, the Mew Glitch... But that Glitch let you catch ~Any~ pokemon you wanted, even Gengar, and Golem. |

And how the fuck did CHarizard get Sacred Fire? That's a Ho-oh exclusive, as far as I know, and Ho-oh can't breed it over... Anyway, I'd say your team's okay, but too legend-heavy and flying-heavy. I'd recomment having an Alakazam, Jolteon, and Lapras available to replace Mewtwo, Zapdos, and Articuno... you know, in case people get tired of losing to excessively powerful pokemon. You really don't need more than one same-elemental type attack (Charizards Sacred Fire, Fireblast, Flamethrower, Hyperbeam is just plain bad. What happens if Switching out is illegal, and you face an Omastar? Fucked). Here's a nice moveset for Snorlax in GSC: Curse, Rest, Sleep Talk, Body Slam/Earthquake. Curse will boost it's attack and defense while cutting speed (it's Snorlax; why care?). And now, my Xatu and Lanturn pwn almost anything. Attract, Thunder Wave, Confuse Ray, Surf (Lanturn)/Psychic (Xatu) . Total screws up any plans. Surfing Tyranitar isn't a bad move either. Takes out the 'quakers. Try to match moves effective against the opponents that you're certain will match you. Misdreavus isn't bad as a Perish Singer. Mean Look + Confuse Ray + Protect + Perish Song. Rotton combo. Give Skarmory Spikes and you'll be set for your opening Spiker. That, or Cloyster with Spikes and Explosion to force Spikes damage.

If you play the new GSC games, i would suggest taking out Dream Eater and replacing it with Nightmare. It does more damage then a Dream Eater does. But the same problem with using hypnosis is what if the opponent has Sleep Talk? Your not going to gain a advantage by sleeping it at all. here is a good team is use in pokemon stadium 2 (its a all star team!)
Ho-Oh: Sacred Fire, Safeguard, Sky Attack/Fly, Frustration(trust me, make Ho-Oh dislike you, and he is freakin powerful as hell when you use this attack) Lugia: That special beam attack he has (cant remeber), Ice Beam, Safeguard, Recover Mew: Shadow Ball, Dynamic Punch, Psychic, Explosion (couple this with holding a revive or mega revive, and Mew will be back to fight again!!!) Mewtwo: Psychic, Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, Recover Dragonaire: Dragon Breath, Twister, that one attack that can paralyze pokmon, it has a 1 in 3 chance.., and a Hyper Beam (why Dragonaire? Dragonaire looks much cooler, and he has more attacks to choose from.) Celebi (it would be based on where you got it, GSC or RuSa?) |

Originally posted by Jedi Master DesrothYes and No, respectively. A pokemon does not lose TM/HM compatibility upon evolution, and I don't think Dragonite has a different levelup moveset. Dragonair still has that weakness to ice... but not nearly as excessively bad as Dragonite's. I'd still rather use Kingdra... same moveset's possible, too, as far as I know. Also, RuSa can't do a damn thing for GSC. No trading between them. |

Why use shit moves like that on Dragonite? Twister and Dragonbreath don't do enough damage to be of any good. Thunder Wave, Body Slam, Thunderbolt, Safeguard. That's the only thing I can do with this broken heap. High attack! Low Specials! Learns nothing interesting! TMs are the only way to go with this poor, screwed over pokemon

Originally posted by Clockworkzeh, Thunderbolt could be replaced with Flamethrower if the move tutors can teach it... depends on what Ice-types your friends use against it... if they use, for example, Jynx, you'd be better off with Flamethrower... against Piloswine, uh... you're screwed, but Flamethrower or Submission (which could be bought in RBY) would do more damage. ... actually, unless the point of that attack wasn't anti-Ice, Submission's probably better anyway with Dragonite's high attack and the fact that it's buyable. And the fact that every Ice-type except Jynx is weak to it, Sneasel doubly so. |

Submission has a piss-poor hit ratio; and the odds that you'll fight a Jynx or a Piloswine (or a Sneasel, since it learns no Ice Moves worth noting, and terrible stats) are extrodinarily low, thanks to their dismal stats. I say Thunderbolt because most Ice types are part Water, as well. You could KO a Lapras in two turns with Thunderbolt, considering you survive its Ice Beam. x4 Weak.? And the constant use of Lapras? I'd rather leave this Pokemon out of the loop altogether. (Last edited by Clockworkz on 07-25-05 11:56 PM) |

Submission has a bad hit ratio? I thought it was 100%, but with recoil damage...
Then again, you're probably more right than me; I kinda ignored attacks with recoil damage. =/ There's also the fact that Dragonite has shit special and high attack, as you've said. Rock Slide, I would suggest, but it's even less accurate and I don't even think Dragonite can learn it. Again, for a Dragon, I'd prefer Kingdra. The only weakness it has is to other Dragons... and since it can learn Ice Beam, that's not really a problem unless you face a non-Dragon with a Dragon attack (what non-dragons are there with one? Gyarados? Possibly Charizard?) |

Kingdra: Surf, Rest, Doubleteam, Sleeptalk. Evil combo!
Lanturn: Attract, Thunderwave, Surf, Confuse Ray. The only Pokemon in GSC that learns the "Confratcionalysis" Combo. Over 80% chance of the enemy not even hiting you. I like those odds. +Leftovers? Done. |
