I recently picked this game up brand new for $20, and after having played it for the last couple of days I can easily say it wasn't a waste.
I'm a big fan of the sidescrolling aspect in Megaman, and I'm glad that element has been kept in this installment. Even though the graphics are 3D, and there's no more sprites, it's still 2D, and it's done pretty nicely. I miss the old techno style of music the Megaman games had, over this newer industrial like rock stuff, but the music is still impressive. Axl isn't actually that bad. Being the sometimes picky gamer that I am, when I first heard about him, I thought he was just going to be a lame character just because he was "new", but he's not bad ... even though I hardly ever use him. The game is pretty challenging also, I've actually died quite a bit (I'm playing on Normal) and it seems like a challenge to find all of the Chips, and Armor Parts, unlike some of the past X games that were really easy to do those things in. So far X8 seems to be a really great game, I'll probably beat it within the next couple of days since I'm already at Jakob's Tower, but yeah, most Megaman games you can beat in a day or two anyways. |

In my opinion, the X games have lost their luster in the past years. I'm personally waiting for Megaman XD, but that won't happen. | |||

They have. X5 was really annoying with introducing Alia, and having her "stop" you during missions and talk to you, and then the bosses even talked forever. When it comes to Megaman games, honestly I want simplicity at it's best.
X6 then just funked up the storyline completely. I haven't played X7 personally, but I've heard it's completely got bad news written all over it. X8 however, is decent. Storyline is lacking, following the plotline that X6 kind of started, but it's still not that bad of a game. X4 was the last *awesome* Megaman X game in my opinion. Even though the game was way too easy, it was still fun, and the anime cutscenes just ruled. But yeah, all of the recent X games from X4 and up don't have anything on X-X3. |
