Them: "It's a cult! You're a satanist and you're going to hell!" Me: *hands them links to www.controverscial.com and www.religioustolerance.org* Also, It's your hell; you burn in it." Them: *walking off, muttering* "I'll burn you." Yeah. As if life wasn't tough enough. What do I do about these kinds of people? |

| There's not really much you can do. People, when it comes to religion, aren't very tollerant of other religions. Well, Christians mostly. If their religion is based off the Holy Bible, chances are there's really no point in trying to get them to be accepting of your religion, because it's not going to happen. I believe it states in the Bible that there's only one pah ot God or some crap like that. basically, this religion is the RIGHT religion, and the ONLY religion, and if you don't follow the practices of it, you're going to hell.
Thus why I can't find a religion. Either I find it just utterly hard to believe in (Wiccan, magic stuffs, God), or I don't like how other people of the religion are.  |

| I warned you when you chose this path that you would encounter idiots like that. Trust me, I went through worse than that example. I do like that you used me favorite phrase though (it's your hell, you burn in it), it's such fun to say that to them.
But yeah, that is something you will have to deal with for a long time. Don't let them get to you. I noticed something the other day that I find quite interesting/funny. I think it's the first commandment that says "Thou shalt not have any other god before Me". Right there it acknowledges that there are other gods, you're just not supposed to worship them. If only I had noticed that in high school... I would have had fun! |

Hmm, that's a good point, Elara. I've neverbeen able to let my brain comprehend that just one being up there is commanding everything, and now there is proof that there are other Gods.  Right there in the "Good book" itself.  Thanks for sharing that bit of info.

| Wizard's First Rule: People are Stupid.
"People believe in what they want to believe to comfort their own existance." In this case, its religion. They believe that there is only one true god, and anyone who dosn't have the same religion is going to burn in hell for all eternity. The very thought of multi dementional gods scare then witless, because their pitiful little closed off minds can't handle the concept of more then one superbeing. Why this is so hard to grasp, I don't know. By telling the person that it's "Their Hell" and you disrupt that person's "Saftey Bubble" lol. His mind probably exploded at trying to think of life with more then one god =P |

| About kaijin's post, just about anything that's not on earth and not human can be considered a superbeing, I can point out though that their power is vastly different within each other.
It's sad how people of the same faith as I don't know how to adress the issue of religion. As funny as it sometimes is, people follow far too many man-made christian rules, which holds them back. Here's how a conversation of a wikken/pagan/other and me might go. Me: So, you're kind of a witch or claim you can do spells? Them:more or less Me:Y'know if you ever wanted to give up that and live for Christ it's always welcomed, I enjoy it....but, just a thought Them:*looks with indifference* Me:do you play D&D? //long stretch of conversation// That about how it goes most of the time. Most people fail to realize that typically, when a person choses to walk the path of the Old Ways (Pagans) that they have truly thought about it and studied it and it's something that they are sure about. | I hate when people try to force their religion on you. Cause it just makes you have even less respect for the religion.
That's one thing that bothered me about Sol. *eyes glaze over and a look of hatred crosses her face* My little step-sister's fater and grandparents are Mormon. For a while, she was afraid to tell them that she didn't believe in God. That's how much pressure religion can put on you. "If you don't believe in god, you're going to hell." Personally, I think that if there is a God, and you chose to worship on Saturday instead of Sunday, or even freaking Thursday, he would be happy. I also believe that if you live a good enough life, God's not going to send you to hell for not practicing certain elements of religion. If God (or any God or Goddess) was like that, I would not want to worship them anyway. *shrugs* my feeling on it. Love Gods/Goddesses how you shall. You are all acknowledging that there is something greater than you. I believe that is what would count? Merh? |

Probably, again, because they think that Wicca is Satanism, which it's not. There is nothing wrong with true Satanism either if you look at it... it's the wannabe fuckers that reinforce stereotypes that cause all this trouble! Just remember, if people start to really get on your case, point out that Wicca is a legally recognized religion in the eyes of the Federal Governement (no matter how much Bush hates it), and thusly is protected under the First Amendment right to freedom of religion... and that if they persist in harassing you, you will report it to the authorities. I did that in my 9th grade year and it helped... of course it can be as simple as telling the pricipal or VP that the reason you are in their office for a dispute is because the other person is harrassing you because of your religion. Half the time schools are so terrified of the thought of angry parents suing the school because their kid's rights were violated that they don't bother to ask what your religion is. If they do ask, you point out the recognization thing. Which brings up another point, do you're parents know yet? |

Hehe, I got out of disecting rats in Anatomy by saying it was against my religion.  The teacher didn't question me, either. W00t. Schools are very sensitive to religion. *nods* They have to let you do something if your religion supports it (as long as it's not extreme). Like this one guy was wearing a turban or head wrap or something to do with his religion. *nods*
I just don't know why people are so uptight about religion. That's the main issue. They think other religions are crazy because they think theirs is the only way or something like that. *has confused self* |

@Elara: My parents found out recently. My dad took it better than my mom, who claimed that it's a cult, and it would only mean my death. What I'm getting out of my wonderful, Conservative, fundamentalist mother, is that she'd rather have no son than a Wiccan son. I, on the other hand, don't give a good goddamn about what she has to say, since I know that her right winged views are horribly skewed, and misjudged. I'm starting to dislike Christiannity more than when I was aetheist.  |

| Yeah, mothers never understand. As far as I know, my mother still hasn't figured it out and I am not telling her until I move out. Otherwise, I will be thrown out of the house, because no matter how many times I explain different religions to her, she always reverts to the "If you're not Christian you are going to Hell. Wicca is Satanic, Muslims are terrorists, etc" view... and she claims to be a liberal.
People like that will tend to make you hate Christians, but you will also meet people that will redeem the faith itself because they are not like that. Hell, I've even known some Jehovah's Witnesses that managed to redeem the religion in my eyes... and considering my ex-fiancee's Witness mother from hell, that was not an easy thing to do. |

Hmm... see, if I was Wiccan, I'd probably have an easier time in this house... both parents are, and my grandmother's a very open-minded Christian (she has to be, to be living with two wiccans  )
But then, we can't all be lucky enough to have parents like mine, who don't really care what religion I follow (although they wish I would follow ONE, as opposed to being Atheist, but that doesn't bother them much...). Say, you mentioned how badly your mother took it, but only said your dad took it better. I'm kinda curious here, what was his reaction? |
