Power outage darkens Las Vegas Strastosphere tower
ASSOCIATED PRESS LAS VEGAS (AP) - The power is back on at the Stratosphere hotel-casino and the surrounding neighborhood, after crossed wires shut down a circuit for more than an hour Tuesday evening. Riders on the X Scream, a thrill ride that juts 27 feet off the edge of the Stratosphere tower, were stranded on the ride while crews tried to pinpoint the problem. Nevada Power spokesman Gabriel Romero said 215 customers, including the Stratosphere, were without power for about an hour and fifteen minutes. During that time, emergency generators kept the lights and slot machines operating inside the hotel and casino. The outage was triggered when a telephone wire crossed a power wire, Romero said. "It could have been wind related. We don't know how it happened," he said. "All we had to do was go out there and get it powered back up." A Stratosphere spokesman did not immediately return calls for comment. Well now my question is... why are people dangling for a fuckin' HOUR AND 15 MINUTES with emergency generators routed to the slot machines? (Last edited by Rogue on 12-14-05 03:03 PM) |

Simple. all the casino's care about is money. If they can make money then basically nothing else really matters

Because common sense does not exist in our society. We're all driven by money (to some extent), and keeping the slot machines running is much better than rescuing people that could also play the slot machines.

I agree with Zabuza's statement, though I hate that it's that way. Damn greedy humans. I would have raised so much hell once I got off that ride... of course, in all realism, I'd never get on the damn thing in the first place. Now I just have a new reason to add to the list.

I finally got to see my cousin, this past weekend, who moved to Vegas but was home for the holidays. I told him about the power outage and the routing of the emergency power and he laughed and said he truly wasn't surprised.
A friend of his stayed at the Stratosphere hotel and he came to visit them. According to him, the hotel is ridiculously crappy. Water stains in the ceiling, mold in random parts of the hotel, things broken that should have been fixed years ago... hell, when Zoso and I stayed at the Frontier, one of the crappiest hotels on the strip, it wasn't near as shitty in the description. |

I also think that the casino probably wasnt planning on anything like this happening and probably only bothered to safe gaurd the slot machines and lights because that is how they operate. The slots are their money makers not the rides. (Last edited by Squiggy on 08-02-06 09:02 AM) |
