Wow, my dial up loaded those pics instantly....^.^;;;

my first responce to your car was...

"OMFG A GRANNY MOBILE!!!''''' >.< ;;;;

But thats awesome that you bought yourself a good car, I bet you feel pretty good about buying it...

I saw the exact same model for close to 800$ down here, cept its an 88' model...only problem is that it needs a new transmission, and I can install one easy, not to mention I have the transmission to put it in, all I need is close to about 200 and its mine...

How does it run? Good I assume? ( Sorry, georgia blood talking, im supreme in vechicles I suppose, blame it on 6 years of Auto Tech and living with a mechanic )

It runs better then I thought for having 140,000 miles on it. Doesnt burn oil either, only a little at start up, but i'm gonna have the heads rebuilt anyways soon.

I put TRW tie rods on it yesterday and filled the rear airshock to the right PSI and it rode a lot smoother once it had the right PSI in it.

The carb needs rebuilt bad, something I could easily do. The lady had a new cap and rotor installed about 2 years ago with new plugs/wires.

Its a solid car, real clean on the inside, the old lady had maintence records to prove she took care of it. I have the orignial title, and a recent-er one saying they finished paying GM for it.

Its ok, I like having someone to talk cars to (thought I was the only one on here), I was born into automobile repair, living close to Detroit and having a line of car nuts on my dads side.

I paid 750$ for it.

Not bad at all!

usually the way you can check the problem on the PSI is by removing the spark plugs, putting in a little oil inside where the spark plug is, crank the vechicle, and read the PSI in a little simple PSI gizmo...( Wow, cant believe what those were called ).

But yeah, if it burns a little oil, you might also need to get your Idler...Idled...^.^ ;;;

usually cars that burn oil might also need to do simple tune ups of their own, cleaning the air filter, check the fuel line from the carb., the works...

just make sure you take care of it, seen how shes a cheavy, im sure she'll take care of you....

Edit: I spelled chevy with an "S"...very anal on my part

Gm had a problem with their Springs rusting and falling off, you could take it back to GM and they put Air shocks on the back instead of coil springs. They relased a TSB(techinical service bulletin) saying it was free.

Your talking about compression inside the cylinder.

It burns oil cause its high mileage, the valve seals are worn down, and GM didnt have one on the exhust valves, the valve seals are worn and it allows little bits of oil to drop into the cylinder and be burnt off.

You completely missed the nail on everything, sure you know cars inside and out?

ah hah! Where have you been all my life?!

Well as long as you know what to do by fixing it...Ever heard of a Vechical Maitenence program called ALLDATA? Im pretty sure you can get it for free on some website nowadays; alot of companies wont really reveil newer models unless you buy their program for the full price of 400$...but you have an old model, im sure you can find freeware on google or something...

Im going to just stop myself from ridiculation from not remembering what the hell that one gizmo was called that recordes PSI...>.< ;;; Damnit....

Or instead of sending it to a GM dealer to fix it, you can always send the pics to MTV's pimp my ride...that might work....:: smiles ::

I get alldata for free at my work.

The gizmo your talking about is a compression gauge/reader. all 8 cylinders check out 9.3:1 compression ratio.

it just screws into the spark plug hole, and has a PSI gauge up top.

First: You work at an automotive shop dont you?

Second: THANK YOU, ITS BEEN BUGGING ME FOREVER!!!!

Third: Your right, it does screw in, but most models (BMW, Nissan...Etc...) dosent really screw in, you have to get an adapter...

Finally: you might have to see if the PSI standards for what youve been reading are near the normality of the vehicle's standards...if its even NEAR that standards...I will be impressed....Miles and all...

Yes, I do work at a auto shop.

My ratio is right on the money to what GM said it had new. (I bought the manual for it) The 305 are dogs, there very low compression, something else always goes before the rings will.

most imports and some domestic cars need adapters, I have a full snap-on set. there starting to use .8 and 1.0 thread spacing on plugs more.

The car I drive around in is just a '98 Cutlass Oldsmobile...

The car that I will soon cruise in is a 1973 Camaro.

The car I might drive around a circle track (Nascar style), is a Chevelle.

Bwahahaha.... it blows all of your cars away...

I have an '89 Toyota Tercel. Got her for $1000, which out here in California is the best I'm gonna get for a car that runs. We've had to do a bit of work on her, but now that we've got it all done she runs great! Still sucks at accelerating though, but I'm not taking her on freeways if I can help it.
