If you're an Irish Catholic, you might be in a bit of a quandry. As it is Lent, it's expected of Catholics to not eat meat on Fridays. However, tradition dictates that St. Patty's Day dinner is to be corned beef and cabbage.
I remember the last time this happened, my aunt in New York told me that they had to seek approval from the Pope who dictated the half one half of the city could eat corned beef and cabbage and the other half would have to go without. A bit strange, but hey. Found this article about this year's situation, though granted it's about Nebraska: Originally posted by KETV |

Heh St. Patty's day is the day I leave for State Conference. So I won't be around all weekend. St. Patty's day ALSO happens to be the date of the Dining out for our batallion. Fun huh. everyone's going to be in uniform meaning they are in green
And I really and truly don't agree with getting approval for what you eat... I don't know why I jsut dont. (Last edited by True Flight on 03-10-06 04:32 PM) |

Lent is simply committing yourself to something for the better for 40 days, for no less reason than out of reverence for God. Not eating meat on friday is kind of a 'default' way of showing respect, and if you can do things for His glory that are greater than that then this man made rule will not truly matter. More important, people really celebrate St. Patrick's day?? My plans for that day are to wear a white t-shirt to school with lined paper taped to it that says 'green'. If there are that many Irish Catholics who celebrate this, and want to stay true to lent, giving up something of equal of greater value to meat would be a good plan, like using no tv, computer, or other 'screens'. I wonder if people can tell God's instruction from man's tradition anymore... | |||

HAH I'm just going to be a person who will be pinched. T_T It sucks none of my business outfits have any green on them. LOL
But really and honestly, you shouldn't have to ASK someone how to show your faith. *not catholic* |

Heh heh, that is why green nailpolish is the most awesome thing ever. I'll be at a concert that evening, and sporting much green.
I've never liked corned beef to be honest, so I've never eaten corned beef and cabbage even though I'm largely Irish in ancestry. Of course, I'm not Catholic either so it doesn't matter to me. |
